    Doug, is pump gas legal?

Pump gas won’t pass a fuel test if they do one because its oxygenated. MS93 will pass any where in the country.

Try something in the 13/80 range. We run 13/76-77 in the senior class. We are now stocking the kevlar sprockets.

We run VP products, MS93 and RS-7 oil as per the Rotax manual. However, Rich is right on, they seem to run best on premium unleaded pump gas.

The KartWeb structure on the 80 is for K1 or seniors. Juniors would still run at 320/330. The idea for the 80 at 350 is to make them competitive if a racer who is moving up in age did not want to move up to a 125. Right now, there isn’t a viable place for an 80 senior.

Your front wheel bearings are a standard karting item. 17mm inside diameter and a 35mm outside diameter. Its an off the self bearing. However, we have our bearings specially assembled for us at the factory to make them very free spinning when compared to regular bearings. We also sell them for a very reasonable price. Look on our web site under front axle componets.

RS setup means that it uses RS pistons. There will be an aluminum shim or two under the cylinder to raise it up to match the higher dome height of the RS piston compared to the flat top Cr piston. The RS piston his much better for sealing and life.

You are right to assume that the head gasket was failing based on the water loss you describe. If you can’t find a leak and its not going into the over flow, the head gasket is leaking. You should replace both rings when your in there, its cheap insurance.

Just so that you don’t get it wrong again, I have never said that KSD was not in the Rotax business. In fact, if you have read most of these posts, you will remember that I posted a while back that Travis Roberts of KSD and Stacey Cook were the only two certified techs in the state to re-seal Rotax engines. Almost every Rotaxian knows that they are around. You got it wrong again Bob. What to inspect the seal on my engines?

If you have a moto, use VP C12 and RC3 oil (110 octane and caster). If ICC, use VP MS 98 and RC3 oil (98 octane and caster).

When its your day, its your and yesterday was Ben’s. No one was happier than us to see Ben (except maybe Ben and family) have such a strong outing. Actually I heard a rumor that JB added the teardrop to give the Leopard the advantage :rotate: or maybe it was the special Shockwave Parts you had or maybe you found the last remaining stash of the Garwood fuel! Whatever :idn: Good job kid, it was a fun day.

I certainly understand where your coming from. Most of the additives are very harmful to your health and while I could care less what a person exposes themselvs too, exposing your fellow racer shows a complete lack of respect for your fellow man. It is the later that drives me nuts.

As far as fuel protests, I do think that since its such a serious health hazard, I think the race officials should treat if very seriously and since it can have dramatic impacts on performance, I think the race officials should be teching for fuel or have a spec fuel program in place. I do not think that I or any other racer should need to file a protest to have fuel checked given the health danger fuel doping presents.

I was in one of the better fuel suppilers the other day and they were telling me about a new kart racer who was in looking to purchase isopropelene alcohol. It was a new karter and he had been told that “everyone is doing it” so he felt he needed to also. He was talked out of buying the additive but it only goes to show that there is a segment of our community that thinks its necessary to compete.

A spec fuel is fine by me. The ony thing I ask is that the fuel be appropreate for the engine. For example, the lower compresion of the ICC and Rotax engines require a lower octane rated fuel when compared to a full on moto or some of the other Tag engines.

Rotax uses MS 93 and RS7 oil. A good combination and will pass any fuel test in the country. So will the C12 or MS98 and the two castors that Kyle mentioned. I have also used (several years ago) the Phillips products and recently the Union products. Again, both fuels passed Digitron tests with flying colors. There have been some problems with some of the localy purchsed Sunoco produts but that may due to fuel storage issues, not something wrong with the fuel.

Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m all for teching karts on a regular basis. However, we all too often spend all our time chasing motors where only minor gains can be found with out major alterations and we over look where a simple 5 ounces can add 20% more power. If I were the type who wanted to cheat and I know you are only going to tech the motors, why wouldn’t that person cheat the fuel and run a legal motor? Or another way, if a racer is willing to cheat in his/her motor, why wouldn’t they also cheat on their fuel, particularly in the light that we don’t tech the fuel and do tech the motors!

….the only reliable way to stop fuel cheating is to spec the fuel and oil to one type for 2-stroke and one for four-stroke. …… The fuel meter will only do a comparision.

I have no problem with a spec fuel and oil. The Digitron gage is also very effective in finding additives as you zero off a know combination of gas and oil and you can be only so much plus, end of story. I have seen the Digitron gage find trace amounts left in a fuel system from several events back. A spec fuel and a Digitron gage will eliminate fuel cheating.

Until we seriously attack the fuel problem, we are just dancing around on the tech issue. You would have to bore and stroke a motor a lot to make up for 5 ounces of wonder gas additive. You couldn’t cheat enough in the motor to make up for fuel cheating.

I welcome increased levels of tech and am very glad to hear that you will be there to help out. However, most of the areas you are going after have minimal impact on overall performance, except tires, when compared to the one area you left out, fuel.

For example, if a Tag racer did lighten his/her clutch, it would have minimal impact for they couldn’t get it to slip at a high enough rpm short of some how finding stronger springs. A lightened clutch will still be fully engaged by 6,000 (stock most are around 3,000 to 4,000) which is still well below the lowest rpm we will see at Bandimere.

Yet a few ounces of a special blend of fuel, like isopropalene(sp) aclcohol, will give an instant 10 to 20% increase in power in a legal engine. A slow leaking nitrous bottle in the air box will do the same thing. I have smelled the funny fuel many times and in several classes so I know its there. Its a health hazard to our racers and its way past time we did something about it.
