InactiveWell I might as well start. Do we have post race tech (fuel) @ IMI this weeks CSC, or do the same standards or lack of going to be the norm.

InactiveJay,
Since nobody is repsonding to your question, I will.
yes, they will be teching your gas and your gas only! They want to make sure you didn’t buy any of that Garwood high Octane Gas.
See ya Sunday

InactiveJust for practice, Im running Sunoco 110. Do we really get any more performance out of it(since we can’t alter timing?). What is the official TAG fuel.

Inactiveno offical TAG fuel
I run straight high test pump gas
You run 110 in a TAG kart-I thought that was just for shifters

ParticipantWe run VP products, MS93 and RS-7 oil as per the Rotax manual. However, Rich is right on, they seem to run best on premium unleaded pump gas.

InactiveDoug, is pump gas legal?

ParticipantDoug, let me answer this one…
It is unless you purchased it from the station where Garwood used to get his gas! 😀

Pump gas won’t pass a fuel test if they do one because its oxygenated. MS93 will pass any where in the country.

InactiveBought our fuel at Big T the other day. I think if we decided to have them provide the spec fuels we could solve a lot of fuel problems. They would even bring it to the tracks.

InactivePump gas will not pass at IMI. That’s what our problem was the last time there. On Sat we were told pump gas was OK by Bobby, then after quals it was decided to do fuel testing and now pump gas is illegal. It was a scramble to get NEW legal fuel right before the pre’s.

InactiveOkay Brad, Stacy, JB and Doug,
There is no spec fuel for the CSC, it is not in the rules therefore there is no reason to Tech the fuel.
I have always used pump gas except for the Rotax series at CRE and at Nationals.
We can’t be wishy washie here.
As of now there is no spec fuel or test limits on the fuel in the rules.
Now if you guys want that changed then do it, broadcast it out, ammend the rules and have BigT at the track with the stuff on race days-that includes Steamboat.
It is a pain to get this VP gas because there are only 3-4 places in the state-CRE, BigT, Fort Collins? and ???
There is no controversy and there is no spec fuel or spec fuel test.
If I am missing something, I am sorry.

ParticipantSeems to me that the fuel issue is a fluid one. If one paid attention to the last CSC race at IMI, then fuel became a tech item just ask Duff and Dane. Now everyone knows, so what is the problem? :idn:
Would everyone have passed tech if fuel was teched at Bandimere on the 15th? I am speculating that more would have than at the previous CSC races.
I have bought all of my fuel at Big T and I use VP MS93. It is somewhat out of the way for me but oh well I just buy extra each time I go. I know they will sell you 20 gallons at a time in a drum. :sun:

InactiveTom, at the last IMI/CSC race Brad checked fuel. My ms98 matched what Brad had. It was @ 0 on his meter, Jack & Lee both said that they had bought there fuel from Brad. They both read around +50 on Brads meter. How does this pass, I have asked for an explination and never got one. Must have been some good oil.

ParticipantDoes +50 mean the fuel is bad or illegal? If it does, why weren’t they DQ’d? I don’t believe they were cheating, but has anyone explained why their fuel read the way it did? Lots of questions!!!!!!!! What did it read when Dane failed? Did anyone else fail the fuel test? Does the tester know how to use the equipment correctly? When was the equipment last calibrated? Does it need to be calibrate after every test, second test, third,… etc.?
This goes back to my point of take the time to go and get fuel that will pass. It may or may not be teched, but if it is and one fails they should be DQ’d. It seems pretty simple to me. As Doug stated, VP fuels will pass any test at any event.

ParticipantWhen we were running in the 60 shifter class we ran VP C12 with castor 926 mix. I shared some fuel with one of our competitors who had an aluminum fuel tank on their kart. Carrio’s test found their fuel hot, and our’s was right on the center of the mark. Point is, there are many variables that will affect the outcome of the test. The metal fuel tank in the hot sun that day cost these guys some undue stress. You just never know until the sniffer goes in the tank.
Like I stated on a previous fuel post last month, CSC runs to SKUAS rules, and there is a SKUSA fuel section written and regulated at all pro-moto events. There are no CSC addendum rules that override the SKUSA fuel sections.
We have run VPC12 bought from Big T, 30 gallon drums at a time. Never had a problem with Stars or SKUSA and have no problems with CSC. Depending on how much racing and testing you do in a season, this is the way to go. It allows me more time to worry about other things like where my cigars are.
By the way, in Euorpe it’s Al-U-MIN-U-AN fuel tank. 😕
