John Schmidt (303)679-0300 at JFS Racing is a certified Rotax dealer in Lakewood. Mile High Karting in Thornton (I think) is another dealer. George at CRE and Stacey at GJMS are also certified Rotax dealers.

I think you’re stuck buying the whole shebang. I don’t think Rotax sells the clutch and flywheel separately. 😥

    Doug,

    I agree with your points.

#1 we can’t do much about.

#2 In the classes I am familiar with, Rotax and TaG, I think allowing unnecessary things like front brakes, modified carbs, and using tires (Mojos) that you can’t (wouldn’t) use anywhere else drive up the costs (at $1000/kart).

#3 There are WAY too many classes. I have no idea of what they all are. When I was racing cars, typical fields were 25-30 cars, with as many as 50 occasionally. That was a lot of fun. Even CSC TaG Master with 17 karts seems small to me. I would think that with all the interest in racing that NASCAR has recently generated, there must be a huge potential group of racers to be tapped.

    Doug,

I think it would be a lot of fun. I’ve run at CRE a few times this year and the racers there are a good group.

I’d prefer that it be used tires only. I’ve done some practice and testing with used MG Yellows there and they held up OK (Mike, they’ll definitely make it through your usual 4 laps). Used Mojos would hold up too – be my guest 😆

I think RMax specs would be good – that would let the RMax guys be competitive without having to get TaG parts.

Scheduling will be the main difficulty for me. I’m pretty booked up with racing and vacation through October. If I can fit it in I will.

    Donal,

Good luck to you and your family in your move to Germany. I’ll miss seeing you race. Thank you for all the advice and help you have given me.

    Stacey,

I vote for counter clockwise. Flicking the kart left-right through the first few turns then blasting up the hill is just so much fun! 🙂

Also, CCW is a little safer. There’s less braking required to get through the first corner of the race and less chance of getting hit from behind.

    Hey Stacey,

What’s the fuel situation for the CSC at GJMS? Will VP93 and RS7 oil be available? At the last CSC race there, buying fuel was mandatory. That’s OK with me, I just want to find out what I need to bring.

    Thanks,

Oh great. Just to run 2 different series (Rotax Max and CSC) I already have to conform to WKA, RMax, and SKUSA rules. Now apparently CSC is adding another flavor.

    Thanks Rich and Mike.

If you’d used the shortcut you could have gotten twice as many laps.

Yes, it was nice to meet Zach out there. Sorry I didn’t get to run with you Mike, but my motor broke a reed.

    Mike,

Now that you’ve got a trailer you should make it down to CRE to run some RMAX. It will help you out for those 20 lap CSC Mains. You must be way out of shape by now! :puke

I don’t think this needs to be a flame war between RMAX and CSC. I run both series and they’re great. The field at the first CRE race was small (at least partly due to weather-related scheduling) but high quality. I had just as much fun there as I did at Bandimere the next day.

There are a lot of good Rotaxians out there and it would be a blast if more of them showed up at CRE (where are you Mike and Jay?).

Brad, George, and all of the other Co. track owners do great things for us karters and I’m just glad to have so many opportunities to have great races.

I was going to go but changed my mind at the last minute for pretty much the same reasons as Rich.

Also, I don’t like 3-day weekends for non-professional races. It adds a lot of cost (hotel, meals, etc) and you have to take an extra day off of work. You should be able to get even events with large numbers of entries in in two days.

    Hi Angie,

Thanks for getting the results up so soon. It looks like using MyLaps will be a lot easier for you and I’m glad for that.
