ParticipantJeff, even IF the Mini Maxes were scored as a seperate class, they would not necessarily have started back 40 yards. Often mixed classes are simply lined up as they qualify. The staggered start for the TaG Jr / Jr2 / 60 Novice was mainly due to the standing start required by the shifters.
I find it interesting that the original complaints about putting the Mini Maxes in Junior 1 had to do with the seemingly overwhelming power they had over the other engines, but now it seems they are just getting in the way all together! (in case you don’t recognize it, there is some sarcasm there 😀 – it is sometimes hard to convey those type of emotions in writing 😆 )
One more thing, the Mini Maxes did NOT get points for the series. There was no “double secret handshake” — Stacey made it clear from the middle of the off season that he would be running them with the Junior 1s at his track, but that does not mean they get points in the series. And that call was not mine to make, rather came from the majority (the other two) track owners involved – also that is what was decided when this was discussed long ago.
Derrick, so now you have an animal – did you get the restricted 80, too?!

ParticipantHere is a copy of the news release that was posted:
CRE Motorsports Park will be hosting monthly group driving instructions to be coached by noted Denver open wheel racer Bob Perona. The first class will be held Saturday May 22nd and still has some openings available. Bob is now taking reservations for future classes to be held June 26th, July 24th, and August 21st.
Bob began racing in high school at the age of 17. Bob captured two wins and four podium finishes in his ITS Datsun 240Z, a car that he built himself ,in his first full season of racing. Over the next four years in ITS Bob went on to win eight times, set two track records and finish runner up in the championship every season. With the help of sponsors MediaOne, Speedvision and Stars, Bob moved to Formula Ford in 1998, winning in his very first event. Bob moved on to the Toyota Atlantic Championship Series in 1999; starting his own team with sponsor MediaOne. After a frustrating first season that included only two top tens, Bob was hired by Price Cobb to compete in a second season of Atlantic racing. Bob had several top ten finishes in Atlantic, highlighted by a track record at Elkhart Lake.
Bob has driven some of the fastest cars on the planet including various sports cars, karts, Fran-Am, FF2000, Formula Nippon and IndyCars. This vast experience and his depth of knowledge in chassis setup has made Bob a much sought after test driver and driving coach. Bob was priviledged to work with professional racing coach and author Ross Bentley.
Bob’s coaching focuses on both the physical and mental aspects of driving a race car. His students range from weekend recreational racers to seasoned pros. Bob is currently working on a book on motor racing sponsorship which will be available next summer.
The Perona Racing Experience will involve a very full day of both classroom and on track instruction starting at 9am and concluding at 6:30pm. The course will cover “The Basics”, race preparation, the “Mental Game”,” Building the Perfect Weekend”, how to go testing and “Building a Career in Racing” that will include helpful sponsorship tips.
This program is open for all racers of every age and ability whether you are a Junior I novice or an experienced kart racer. We are never to old to learn new tricks to improve our game.

ParticipantDennis,
Thank you for the kind words, it is always nice to hear that my efforts do not go unnoticed. 🙂
I recall a few weeks back that someone was posting about track records, and I was thinking it wouldn’t be that difficult to start keeping track – I just didn’t say anything then, as I figured then everyone would be expecting it right away! I will work on it. I certainly have access to the results as they come in, and could find out recent record holders fairly easily. I will see what I can do ! Thanks for the idea 🙂angie
btw – looking out my window at the SNOW!

And yes, any of you who are heading there for the first time are in for a treat – GJMS is a great facility, great track, and the Cooks are great people!

ParticipantIt was #08 BJ Meyer. It looked scary for sure! He was looked at by the paramedics and I was told he was ok, just shaken up. He didn’t race the main, but I do know that someone ( I assume his dad ) wasn’t happy we gridded him to the back due to bringing out the red flag. He left the tower before I could ask how BJ was doing. BJ had run up over the top of Xavier, who was also a little sore and shaken, but was also ok.
I am sorry that we did not do a better job of letting everyone know by announcements as to the outcome of the incident. We will try to keep you informed a little better next time. If anyone knows how BJ and his kart are doing, please let us know.
Nick Burton went upside down, actually all the way over, back on to his wheels, during qualifying in the Junior 1 class, after he had already logged the fast lap. He went on to win the Heat race and the Main event. Good Job Nick.
Good job, too, to the rest of the Junior 1 field for quickly recognizing the red flag and responding correctly!

ParticipantTaylor,
I just updated the CSC rules page today – (I should have done it right after the first CSC race 😳 )
It is official that Brad is going to keep the Seniors and Masters scored seperately, using the published weights…I spoke with him about it this morning. I am the timing/scoring person for IMI, too, so I think you can believe me. The original concern was only that we may not have enough to warrant two classes, but as there were 7 Seniors and 5 Masters, it is worth it.
Regardless, it never hurts to have your extra weights handy!
See you Sunday,
angie :type:Angie MacEwen
ParticipantThe IMI weights for Senior and Masters will match CSC and SKUSA. look here –> CSC Rules
Does that clear it up for you?

ParticipantSpencer,
All of the TaGs ran together, Juniors, Seniors, and Masters. It seemed to work well. The Sr/Hvy, S2, and Pro 125s ran all together, and then the Junior 2 and 60 Novice Shifters ran together.Hope to see you out there on May 9th at the next event. Good luck to those running at Action Karting tomorrow!
