ParticipantWell, we have enough time at Greeley where you won’t have to worry about it.
There are going to be concerns over any grouping of classes. As Curt pointed out, the 80 shifters have problems, too. We don’t have time to run each class alone, so we just have to figure out the best way to group them. Racing incidents happen, they are just amplified when the karts involved are from different classes. Just think, if we had 20 entries in every class, then we would HAVE to find a way to run them all seperate. That would require every event to be a two day affair OR have no practice on Sunday OR shorten times and laps for practice, qual, heats, and mains OR ??? There are only so many hours in the day.
At IMI, we could have started on track stuff at 7:30am. Don’t know if it is possible at the other tracks, but if we could get going a little earlier, it would give us a little more time.
What about the Main event lap numbers? 20 laps at IMI seems like a long race. What about 15 or 18 laps at the long tracks, 20 at the shorter tracks? As for using the driver experience issue, I don’t think that is fair. You have Novice drivers that have been racing for a few years, and you have some Masters, Stock, etc. that are newbies. There are new drivers in lots of classes, and all that we can do is ask that they understand the procedures of the event, especially of letting the fast guys get by safely. I would hate to discourage the newbies from coming out the the CSC races, as it is great to see new faces and big numbers.
OK, I gotta get back to points. We have the GGP this weekend without the issue present, so enjoy that!

ParticipantDon,
The Mini Max is already restricted intake and exhaust. Jim has 2 Gazelles (I believe one is restricted, one not) that he is putting on some Cadet chassis, so we will have a chance to see how they perform. The Mini Max is here to stay, especially with the RMax Challenge growing in this region.
The Animals were welcomed into the CSC with open arms. We knew going in that this was another class for a similar age group, but the numbers were supposedly so high, that it was ok. And, they were to run on the track with the Mini Maxes, as the times were so similar, but that plan went out the window, too.
I don’t think it is fair to put the cost of an Animal at $600. How many of them out there that have only $600 in them? I don’t think so. And most of the Animal racers have a spare engine, right? so then double it. How much is a Jim Bennet Animal? then double that – you are close to Mini Max territory now.
The K80 deal was just an attempt to keep SOMETHING in the structure for the kids coming out of KK. The Animal used to be an OK step, but over the past few years, they have gotten faster and faster, until it is as fast as a Mini Max. That is too big of a jump for a kid. I don’t know that the stock sealed program in the answer, but I do know that I have been getting more calls of interest for it than I ever did with the built class. I am sure that if we had “our ducks in a row” and had announced it sooner, there would be more participation in the class. The stock sealed program has been running successfully down at CRE for several years, and I have yet to have anyone that participated in that program to complain. It may be slow growing, but I think as kids move up, it will be fine. If we had a better, low cost, reliable (Honda) solution, it would be something to look at, but I am sure there would be lots of screaming about that, too.
Anyway, part of the glory of the CSC is that it does emcompass the spectrum of classes from Kid Karts to the top levels of Shifter and TaG. Leaving a gaping hole in the structure is no good. I am not going to take Courtney or Wyatt, and take them from KK to MM, no way (even though Wyatt keeps asking to drive it, cuz he can reach the pedals already!)
Kid Karts 5-7
K80 7-10 ( adjust down from 11 to 10 with the stock program)
Mini Max 9-13, Novice 80 Shifter 9-13
TaG Jr 12-15, Junior 80 Shifter 12-15
TaG Sr 15+, 125 Shifters 15+, Briggs Mod 15+What is the problem with that? The only thing I see is if we find a better solution for the K80.
I know some would say that the Briggs Mod should be dropped, but they had more karts on the track than the Pro Shifters!Doug, you should have also pointed out the very successful Club Mini Max program in FL. If we could get something like that here – the numbers would skyrocket!

ParticipantThank you all for the kind words. And thanks to everyone for being patient with the transponder situation!
And on that subject…. If you do have your own transponder, please charge it, bring it, and use it! We are getting large crowds so far this year, and are tight on the transponders!
Thanks,

ParticipantI am working on the points now. There are some close battles already!

ParticipantRich, I am working on IMI’s points. Don’t hound Brad, he might fire me!!
The Track’s too. working….working….As for the CSC’s, how do you like the format? I will add a few navigation links, so it is easier to get back out.
Thanks,

ParticipantBrian,
This is not Stars. This is no longer a built engine class. It is box stock, sealed, and may possibly run with a spec gear. The idea here is to have a place for kids moving up from Kid Karts, or kids that are not ready for the speeds of Mini Max and Novice Shifter. We had dicsussed lowering the age so that it doesn’t overlap so much with Mini Max and Novice Shifter. Point is, there is a progression from Kid Karts to K80 to Mini Max or Novice Shifter, then on to TaG Jr or Jr 80. The same applies elsewhere…. for instance, even though the ages overlap, you cannot run Mini Max AND Tag Jr. Like I said before, this is a different focus for the K80 than we had last year. Going from Kid Karts to built Comer 80 is quite a jump. Sorry you seem to think this is personal. If you want to have some good, close, fun racing for Brandon, consider the Mini Max. With the RMax thing picking up, that class is only going to grow!
I am sorry that we didn’t get some of those details into the rules. Totally my mistake. That K80 class change happened last minute, and I guess there are some details that still need to be clarified.stock honda is not an age based or experience based class, it is an engine based class. Novice is, though, and a Pro cannot go back to Novice. He can, however, move to Masters. Drivers can run TaG Senior and TaG Masters at the same race.

ParticipantBrian, I don’t know why you are interested in this class. Brandon is 11, and is beyond the purpose of this class. This class is “a step up for the kids moving out of Kid Karts, or for the fairly new driver in this age range”. That does not fit Brandon.
As a matter of fact, this brings up an issue that is not addressed in the rulebook, but should be….. Once you move up in class – in this case, from K80 to Mini Max, Animal, or Novice Shifter, you can’t go back. I realize that it is not in “the book”, but will be posted as an addendum on the website (along with a couple of other items that need clarification in general).Taking the K80 back to a box stock sealed class puts it at a step between the Kid Karts and the MM or Novice Shifter. The situation last year where several kids ran K80 and Novice Shifter was a little different, as at that time the class was running at much fasters speeds. Brandon is already 11, and you should just move on. Brandon does well in his shifter, if you want to race in a second class, try the Mini Max ( it is a blast!).
As for your questions, you have some good points, and I will be getting answers ready for those that will be racing in this class. Whether or not the rules are detailed enough for your liking, there is definite “intent” for the class. Thanks,
AngieAngie MacEwen
ParticipantTaylor, I understand what you are saying, but I just want to point out that “regional” racing is not just for preparing for national racing. There are many racers that come out to race at CSC events that don’t plan to go on to race nationally.

ParticipantI will see if I can get an official answer from a CSC “official”

ParticipantRunning in the rain and running on a wet track after the storm are two different things. I don’t see us running while it is raining. The track workers would need rain gear, and who knows if the radios will hold up in the rain. Our Colorado storms often come with some nasty lightning, and that becomes a safety issue. At most of the tracks, I am inside, but at GJ the timing system was out in the weather… that would have to be protected – could be done, but something to consider.
