Last year it was $50.00 plus $15 for a pit space. (sometimes they charged for the pit, sometimes they didn’t) and $10.00 for a pit pass for anyone who joins you. (Your pit pass is included with your entry fee. You pay the extra $10 for anyone who comes with you.) The fees at The Track were the same.

Great idea Jim. I would do it in a heart beat, BUT my Briggs kart would last about 4 or 5 hours… maybe. If I can find a ride, I will do it. I’ll even bring the camper with me so we have a place to sleep, cook & hang out. Just like the “big boys” do.

Gotta do the “Le Mans” start.

I like the idea of using the rental karts. More money for the track(s). Cost split 5 or 6 drivers (or more) to a kart.

Very good reads. I grew up watching and following Indy Car racing. I’m still am a devoted fan. It pains me to see where open wheel racing has gone. From what it was in the 60’s 70’s and to a lesser extent in the 80’s to what it is today… Your lucky to find a paragraph in the Monday paper talking about the race the previous day. I hate to say it, but NASCAR did it right. As an open wheel fan, I can’t seem to find what is so exciting about watching cars that, for the most part, use 30 year old technology (push rod engines, carburators, 4 speed transmissions) to race each other. Most Indy Car races have closer finishes then the NASCAR races. BUT, while USAC, CART, IRL, Champ Car etc. where all fighting each other for a “bigger piece of pie” NASCAR took the whole damn pie from under them. NASCAR did the exposure right too. Everyone knows what Tony Stewart looks like. Could the average person pick out Dan Weldon in a crowd? Or even know who Dan Weldon is?

Cudos to NASCAR…. The open wheel guys need to follow NASCAR’s lead before they become extinct.

    Thanks Jim,

Any word on what classes will be running in the “The Track / IMI” club series?

    Same classes as last year?
    Any classes dropped?
    Classes added?

    Hey Freeze…

I think I’ll pass on the ice racing… I’m not sure I would fit in my seat if I have to wear ski pants and a parka. Not to mention I have not learned how to power slide yet.

    I’m looking forward to spring.
Don’t let Kirk scare you… once the mask comes off… he’s just a mild mannered guy.

Briggs Modified…. I know, I know…. I’m still cutting my teeth in this class. I’ll move up some day. I just love the smell of buring methanol.

Me and three others have chassis/engines ready to go.

    Rick,

All the old pictures of my dad are sadly gone. My mom was not the biggest fan of his midget racing carrier. So when he died, the pictures got given away to Brad Bradford (my mom worked for Brad at the time). Now that he is gone too, I have no idea what became of them.

I have a CDR patch on my kart racing suit. I don’t even remember where I found it. My dad was friends with Sid Langshum, the owner of CDR. His Jaguar e Type and Aston Martin DB5 were in our garage at least once a year. My dad was the only one in town who could fix the damn things. I’d love to find a CRD shirt for me and my older brother.

I want to climb the fence at Lakeside Speedway, and just walk around. Lots of memories there. My dad stopped racing before I was born, but we sure went to a lot of races on Saturday nights.

Yea, It’s a great site. I found my dad on there too… Walt Von Tilius. A lot more of his buddies… Roy Bowe, Johnnie Tolan, Brad Bradford, Sonny Coleman, Joe Giba, Roy Leslie.

I love the old program covers and posters too.

    C.D.R. still rules!

The Briggs Modified class wants to be included in the Club Series.(IMI, The Track) Dan Peterson is moving to Tag Masters, but the rest of us are still here.
Dan’s kart is for sale, and he is hoping for it to go to someone who will race it.

I like the Le Mans Start too. With Greg’s bad knees, I might be able to beat him to the first corner :rotate:

    Tom,

The World Formula class is a lot of fun. As long as you don’t mind tinkering with engines. There is quite a bit of maintenance involved. The good thing is it’s not that expensive for the parts, compared to other classes.

There is a fantastic kart for sale on this board. Look on the classified section for the heading “Briggs Modified for sale”. Dan Peterson is changing classes and is selling his kart. He is asking $2000 for it, with everything included… quite a bargain. It runs up front every time out.

Cost for the maintenance? Well a lower end rebuild every 3 to 4 races is about $150.00 in parts. Oil is about $7.00 a quart and needs to be changed every 10 to 15 laps. Tires are a constant, no mater the class ($180 for a set of MGs). Fuel (methanol) is $4.00 per gallon. You might go through a little less than 2 gallons in a race day.

    Hope that helps.

Do come to the swap meet on Saturday. There might be something you can’t pass up. Lots of people to answer questions too.

Dan Peterson has his kart for sale. (see the posting for the briggs modified kart for sale) Dan is onlyl asking $2k for this… complete… Kart, spares, extra short block, stand, external starter. He could get about a $1000 more for it. It is a proven race winning kart. Give it a look. We would love to have you race with us

Hey Freeze, Do you have a starter for a briggs modified kart? (not the on board one, the external one like Dan and Greg use). If so BRING IT. I will buy it from you.

    Thanks
