So let’s see where we stand on my questions:

*What is Kartworks up to? AJ never answers my e-mails and neither does Rick-I guess they just don’t like me!nothing

    That’s the updates folks

    Rich,

Are you saying you didn’t receive the Rotax / Tag information you asked me to share last week? Seems like a qualified answer?

    Stacey,

Good work, Great choice! Good for karting in Colorado.

    I guess?

At least there were others who were reading the 32+ thing the same way I was.

My apologies for misunderstanding the rules.

Compared to previous years wording, it seemed ages were stated in the rules and Tag Usa was used for weights.

Going back and rereading, it is still appears 32+ vs 32+ / 15+

Yes, congratulations Angel, glad you weren’t confused ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll talk to you later.

    Oh Mike!

    You so funny ๐Ÿ˜†

You always have been looking out for all racers to race in a class they have a chance. And, there have been some mighty battles over the years.

Maybe lunch next week, just got out of the hospital after a couple days of testing. Rain check?

    Rick,

Are you sure? Are you referring to “TaG Masters TaG USA by weight 35+” or ” Masters (age 35+) ” from the posting on TTAC site? Have you confirmed this with Jim? Why would we after all this time not include everyone possible? That doesn’t make any sense. That is what makes TAG Master fun!! It has to be a just an oversight in the verbage.

It’s quit possible I am reading this wrong, if so, I am not the only one. There are some of the perennial Tag Masters racers who were somewhat disappointed Roman did not race that class last year. They wanted to shred him. As it should be. I think Roman, Chad, Jason, Tony and some of the others ( I know there are others but don’t know the names) that would be turned away by this new rule would make it a shame for the competition level of that class. You’ve beat us when we were on our game, probably felt good. I’ve had a few interesting conversations with racers since this came out, they wondered which racers wanted this?

Personally, I think Tag should be light and heavy and a maybe a true older (50 plus class?) run in conjunction with the Masters. I know I could stomp Roman at age 45 (if Lucy had a sense of humor) but closing in on my 50’s and if I were mid 50’s, I’m not so sure I could. And as you know we ran 2 classes to level the playing field for Romans older competitors. But everyone seemed to like racing against the fastest guys and some fall into the younger / heavier racer in the category in question.

It will be interesting to see if this is a typo and if not where the bulk of the Tag Master racers spend their money racing this year, it would be a shame to see those mid 20 kart fields broken up though.

If it is an oversight in verbiage, it would be in the series best interest to correct it promptly.

And I suppose choosing one of the Rotax series would take make a potentially ugly situation a non issue. All you have to do is show up for the qualifying races and concentrate on Norman.

    We’ll see.

    Call me an Idiot,

But as a TaG Master and not having a mechanic (like the rest of the field) will I get to buy a drivers and Mechanics liscence????

I guess its a good thing the economy is so good!!!!!

Hey Idiot! (sorry Tony, you asked for it)

I looks like you will not be welcome in Tag Master at any of The Tracks races. (if I’m reading the rules right) For the first time since we’ve raced sprint karts (this time around anyway) Tag Masters is age based only. If you want to run at Centennial and have a chance to be competitive, you’ll need to buy a shifter motor. If you look around the country, most series that offer both Tag and Rotax racing, The Tag Masters is closer in alignment with the Rotax belief in giving the younger heavier drivers a place to race. The series that are more shifter / adult based keep all of the Masters classes age based.

I suppose there are a few schools of thought there. Some are tired of getting beat by the kids. And, I have had calls from some of the front runners in Tag Masters who like mixing it up with drivers like Chad, Jason, Roman, Tony etc… They actually love racing against the fastest guys, regardless of age. They are going to have to race them in the other series it looks like.

Information you should know when scheduling your 2009 racing budget Tony.

Congrats on the tires Mikey. Your luck may be looking good for 09′

    Hey Tim,

    You jumping back in again?

They are both good packages and the information you’ve received is good. If you like to tinker and do your own engine maintenance, the Leopard is very good. If you just want to get track time and work on your driving and chassis tuning skills, the Rotax is pretty hard to beat.

You do have laps in the Tag 4Stroke, don’t you? From a driving standpoint the Leopard requires a little less finesse due to the Rotax being over carbureted and needing a judicious right foot to get it to climb on the pipe while the Leopard is not nearly as critical to get going off the corners.

Pretty sure we could find you a few examples for you to drive, helping you make a decision.

The Leopard spins harder and vibrates more, requiring more frequent upkeep, it has better bottom end, you can top end it yourself, it does not require jets, they can be prone to throttle cable issues, clutch leaves some room for improvement. It is the most common Tag motor. It is a good motor.

The Rotax is a smooth high mileage unit. Not near the bottom end, but a very good set of legs, clutch could be better and new models are improved (this is a particular issue for those who like to lock up the rear end under braking) driving takes a little getting used to, carb tuning requires more physical effort but should not be feared (if your scared, run it at 155 pin #4 in the summer and forget it) you have the choice to run Rotax only classes and run against motors the have very similar Hp and torque characteristics which is very refreshing.

I have heard some scuttle butt about Rotax in the future but really doubt Rotax will make the Fr 125 obsolete by enhancing the performance of that particular package. Maybe Garett being one of the recent added Rotax service centers has the inside track and could give us more than a tease?

I think Garricks kart may have come from you Tom, or from Craig Mansfield, which would make it Romans old kart. If that is the case, we ran it for 2 /2 years without… well, doing anything. And as any of the Tag Masters guys who have been around a while could attest, it was a total pooch at the start but once would up, that loosey goosey Rotax would scream.

Just get something and go have fun Tim. You’ll get plenty of help either way.

    Regards,

    Rick

    Steve,

I think Redspeed is an Australian kart that is produced out of the Tony Kart plant.

Trent from Mile High Karting handled them for a while but is no longer in karting. Wonder if it is one of the Farley boys old kart. They are a good unit and you should be able to find spares here in Colorado.

Shockwave karting has it’s annual chassis tuning seminar this Saturday, I’m sure if you bring your kart by, there would be plenty of friendly help to get you pointed in the right direction.

My comments were pretty much what the racers I’ve spoken with feel about the situation. Ours too.

I think Rotax might draw the racers this year. So whoever has the best Rotax series (assuming they’ll both have one?) will probably have a lot of racers who tag along (pun intended) with the series and will be the happening series to be a part of.

Most I’ve spoken with that are not going to do Jim’s series will still do his temp race. And all also say they want to run Brads new track.

Who knows where to go to race against the best fields and which series will produce the best racers in Colorado. Jim will make it a good show, a lot will stay with the Csc for the nostalgia and prestige of winning what has been the premier regional series in Colorado. Some are waiting to run the Csc to see if the board will really be able to enhance the racers experience? Don’t know. We’ll wait like the rest.

It’s a little strange right now. I’ve never had so many PM’s and phone calls about what to race?

One thing is for sure, the fields will be smaller regardless.

    Rick
