ParticipantTim,
FWIW, I’ve not heard of ANY kart sanctioning organization that requires SA-rated helmets. (At least for sprint racing.)

ParticipantFrom what I understand M, K, or SA Snell ratings are all acceptable. Although personally I wouldn’t put my head in anything less than a K rating. I believe the most important standard is the year of the certification. Most sanctioning bodies in racing use a 10 year mark from my experience. At least SCCA and NASA do. I’m not sure about CSC or the club races but I believe they’re the same. So, for example, my K 2005 helmet should be acceptable until 2015. I think?

InactiveDoes anyone use a M rated helmet…from everything I read the only difference between SA and M is the rollbar test and the nomex interior on the SA. If you use a M rated helmet what brand is it……
Thanks

ParticipantTim,
I’d bet 90% of people use M rated helmets. (Total WAG.) Mostly because of the difference in cost, and availability.
BTW, I think the other difference on the SA helmets is that the eye opening is somewhat smaller. Argument I’ve heard is that racers don’t need as wide a field of vision as do motorcyclists on the road.
