ParticipantAvatars are clunky but you can still add them. Upper right corner of the screen, mouse over “Howdy (your name)” and click “Edit My Profile”.
Agree that a view new posts since last visit would be great if possible.

ParticipantSwedetech has been building stock Honda engines for a long time and they are very, very good at it. They charge what they do because people will pay for it. They’re also including some mounts and such (coil mount, exhaust flange, etc.) that may or may not be included in the other prices you see.
Are they better? That’s debatable. I will say that like all the other classes in karting, chassis setup and driver will make a MUCH larger difference than the name on the side of the engine.

ParticipantHi Jeff,
There are two main series in Colorado to race in, one is the Colorado Karting Tour (CKT – http://coloradokartingtour.com/), the other is Colorado Sprint Championship (CSC – http://www.cscseries.com/). Both have classes for all ages of kids. The CKT is generally more popular for the younger ages but both are great series.
The CKT is having a race this Saturday at Unser Karting Centennial (http://unserkarting.com/centennial/kart-racing/). There are several shops you can buy a kart from, and used is a great option as well.
If you’re able to make it out to the race on Saturday, it would be a great opportunity to come talk to people and learn more about the sport. You’d be welcome to come find me – I’ll be working under a checkered flag tent wearing a black W Speed shirt (see the logo in my avatar). I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about getting started in karting.Jeff Welch

We used to be on the DFM factory team. They were imported by a guy in Evergreen and sold through Shifter Kart City. When JB moved his shop to Bandimere, he changed the name to Action Karting. The motor on that kart is most likely a built Honda. That means the head has been altered to take the Honda RS piston and a spacer has been added under the cylinder to correct the port height. At the same time, I would bet that the reed cage and intake manifold were changed out to straight parts rather than angled like stock.
If I’m correct, I would convert it back to stock top end. All you need is a new head and a stock piston and ring. It’s real simple to do. If you want to drag it out to IMI this weekend I can point you in the right direction. I will be doing tech for the CKT and would be happy to help. As far as the Tony kart, Greg at Unser is the man to get you setup.
thanks for all the info everyone!
Doug Sorry i was just able to log on, wish i would have seen this message i was at IMI Saturday with the DFM! Great info thanks a lot. I would like to have it put back to stock moto if you are correct and i think you are, A man i spoke to looked at it for a couple seconds and said its built, he pointed to the air filter and carb area and told me why. I was thinking about taking the engine off and having it rebuilt (to stock) and using it as a spare and maybe getting rid of the DFM chassis. The tony kart seems to be in good shape so i would like to start using that one full time to get used to it. Felt good the couple times i have taken it out, seat might just need adjusting.
The next race at IMI is July 30th, is there a guideline online i should look over to make my kart race ready safety and spec wise that you know of?
Thanks again for all the info!
Definitely switch it over to the TonyKart if possible – the DFM chassis was fine back in the day, and I did pretty well on one, but the Tony will be more modern and overall a better chassis. Easier to set up, faster, etc.
As for safety specs and other rules, the CKT has lots of resources on their website here: http://coloradokartingtour.com/resources/
The “pre tech inspection” form at the top is the safety inspection you’ll need to pass so that’s a great place to start. For engine legality, having one of the guys suggested above go through it is the way to go.Jeff Welch
ParticipantAs Eric said, we are seeing pretty big fields on the Front Range – about 15-20 in Light and 11-15 in Heavy. But, we also have more active kart racers.
Have you sat down and talked with the folks at GJMS about it? They are a Briggs dealer, and they might be willing to discuss ideas with you, share what has worked and hasn’t worked for them on the business side of things, etc.
Historically, karting has generally grown through word of mouth and support through the shops (both the sport in general and specific classes).

Ok…no responses because the pictures have all been corrupted. This is a real classified ad…if you are interested, send me an email and I will send pictures. Or, if someone can help me post, I will forward them the pics. I had trouble because the files on my pics were too big…moderators?
Yes, the forum does have a file size limit for uploading photos. I just bumped it up a bit, the maximum is now 1Mb per image, and you can add up to 6 images per post. You can resize or compress your images in any photo editing software, or using a 3rd party tool like the one you appear to have used at giftofspeed.com.
As Eric suggested, hosting your photos on a 3rd party site can also work well. It does not appear that giftofspeed.com does this – they just compress the image, then you need to download it to your computer, then upload it to the forum or a 3rd party site. I personally use SmugMug for my photo hosting, but there are many others out there – Facebook, Flickr, Google Photos, iCloud, PhotoBucket, etc.
Thanks!

ParticipantActually, SBR was never longer – what you see in the satellite view was a planned expansion that was graded but never paved in the early or mid-2000s, under the previous owner.
Agreed, Second Creek was a super fun long track, but dangerous with all the walls. I had a ridiculous drafting battle there in 80cc Junior one year. I vaguely recall that a 125cc Shifter may have held the track record out there for a little while.

ParticipantCool stuff JB!
My history in CO karting starts in 1997. At that time IMI and Bandimere were the two active tracks, although there was little to no crossover of racers between the two. We raced at IMI – most people were running flathead Briggs of some variety, with a few Yamaha KT100s floating around, and shifters becoming popular.
SKUSA got big nationally in the late 90s thanks to the SuperNationals, and started the ProMoto Tour in 1999. A local SKUSA regional series developed locally, the track out near Falcon was rediscovered (then called CRE, now SBR – the track had existed for many years but nobody was driving on it) and there were races at Bandimere, IMI, CRE, and Second Creek. Grand Junction was built a few years later, then Centennial. Other than Second Creek shutting down, that’s our current complement of tracks.
I know there are a few people still floating around that were involved in CO karting before I was. Hopefully they post up.
Here’s a photo from the late 90s at IMI.

ParticipantColleen, your post is totally fine. I edited it to fix the link.

ParticipantBump – Thursday night racing starting up again this week.
Long shot, but if anyone has a spare LO206 that I could drive this week, that’d be awesome. Otherwise I’ll be there driving a twin, haven’t been able to get my own LO set up yet.
Jeff Welch
ParticipantLeo – west half track, CCW. Dunno on gearing – probably a few teeth up from what we ran last week?
For anyone that hasn’t made it out yet, especially the LO206 guys – the half track racing is SUPER fun, really nice to throw some variation into tracks that we’ve been racing for a decade.
Hopefully I can avoid yardsaling multiple clutches this week.
Jeff Welch
ParticipantMike, because it’s fun 🙂

Now, what’s got me really intrigued is the idea of a weekly (week day?) racing series, as mentioned in the press release. I’d love to know the details behind that…i’ve always thought that a week day racing series would be great.
Sounds like the plan is a casual series on Thursday evenings. Just for fun, minimal rules/class structure, varied formats and track layouts. Sounds super fun to me, I’ll be doing it in whatever kart I manage to scrape together any particular week.

ParticipantJust announced they will open Saturday.
