Hi everyone,
Just seeing if anyone on here has ever sent their Swedetech shifter engine to them for a rebuild and what the cost was? I bought a couple shifters as a bundle a couple weeks ago but i do not really know the history of the kart with that engine in it. The other kart is a Tony Kart and the guy had just rebuilt the top end. I do not know how to do the top end rebuilt but would like to learn. With the bundle i got a bunch of parts including new pistons, rings, bearings etc. Just wasnt sure if its best to send the Swedetech engine off to get it all done and start fresh.
Anyone know any good local shops in Denver area that do it or is it recommended to send directly to swedetech?
Also while im starting a post, the kart frame with the swedetech motor says DFM ICC M3 297. Anyone know anything about this chassis and setup? I can barely find anything on google about that. I can not figure out what year the karts are either. Looking at replacing the RLV pipe but they seem to have years they fit 89-2006 and so on.
thanks!

Some people do replace their top end with plug-and-play parts like a ring or a piston, but I can’t think of anyone doing serious rebuild stuff…Others may have better input!
Some suggestions of people to contact who could give you much better info:
Unser Karting Centennial, Action Karting, IMI Motorsports, possibly SBR Motorsports Park although they don’t do a ton of shifter kart stuff..
Regarding the DFM chassis: From my understanding, those chassis were sold out here by a couple distributors many years ago..I believe IMI and Action were two dealers, so they may have some tips for you.

Ron Rudolph (Ryan’s dad) built all of his shifter motors. Not sure if he is looking for any extra work but you might want to reach out to him and keep it local. They also have a lot of stuff for sale. Let me know if you need contact info.

We have worked with those guys a lot in the past and use them for our national engines. They are a great resource if you want dyno tuned engines. Give us a shout at the shop and we can walk you through the ins and outs, ask for me or Charlie. 720-484-4410

When JB moved his shop to Bandimere, he changed the name to Action Karting. The motor on that kart is most likely a built Honda. That means the head has been altered to take the Honda RS piston and a spacer has been added under the cylinder to correct the port height. At the same time, I would bet that the reed cage and intake manifold were changed out to straight parts rather than angled like stock.
If I’m correct, I would convert it back to stock top end. All you need is a new head and a stock piston and ring. It’s real simple to do. If you want to drag it out to IMI this weekend I can point you in the right direction. I will be doing tech for the CKT and would be happy to help. As far as the Tony kart, Greg at Unser is the man to get you setup.

thanks for all the info everyone!
Doug Sorry i was just able to log on, wish i would have seen this message i was at IMI Saturday with the DFM! Great info thanks a lot. I would like to have it put back to stock moto if you are correct and i think you are, A man i spoke to looked at it for a couple seconds and said its built, he pointed to the air filter and carb area and told me why. I was thinking about taking the engine off and having it rebuilt (to stock) and using it as a spare and maybe getting rid of the DFM chassis. The tony kart seems to be in good shape so i would like to start using that one full time to get used to it. Felt good the couple times i have taken it out, seat might just need adjusting.
The next race at IMI is July 30th, is there a guideline online i should look over to make my kart race ready safety and spec wise that you know of?
Thanks again for all the info!

Definitely switch it over to the TonyKart if possible – the DFM chassis was fine back in the day, and I did pretty well on one, but the Tony will be more modern and overall a better chassis. Easier to set up, faster, etc.
As for safety specs and other rules, the CKT has lots of resources on their website here: http://coloradokartingtour.com/resources/
The “pre tech inspection” form at the top is the safety inspection you’ll need to pass so that’s a great place to start. For engine legality, having one of the guys suggested above go through it is the way to go.June 6, 2017 at 8:58 pm #68196Doug WelchParticipantIf the engine was built, it can not be converted back to pass stock class tech regulations without spending a ton of money. But you can convert it back to a stock piston/head combination and that will save you a ton of money. The CKT has an open shifter class. This is where they put the older moto engines and the ICC engines. It’s a good place for those engines that can no longer pass the SKUSA tech rules but a guy still wants to race.
