    8) Chris, Does that mean the DD2 will be having you doing some seat time? I will be waiting.

:co I had a great weekend. It was fun to get back in my kart after to many months. The gizzer race was fun and the track time was enough to remind me to work out more.
The food was great and the people as always were super friendly. I do see a hole in these events. Lets have a race on Sat. that is a little less expensive then the main event. The track time is there as shown in Junction. You could even have a rental kart division. The fact there is who can I sell my stuff too when I change classes. They might also bring some fans. The expense is always going to be a deciding factor how many more racers can we get if we can charge less and get more. Yes, I know that it is a bottom line decision. Zero times zero is ? How many racers could we have if the pricing is more like a club event and for the others it is a national event. If we build it they will come. How much for a hit in local papers or a radio spot? Just typing and thinking.

:box It is amazing to me to see all the back and forth between beanios racers. It seems that we might need a tuners race within the beanios class. i must also ask about where the females are in this class structure? Are we giving handicaps like bowling a sport that many of you really old guys call competitive sports. Stacy do have alleys set up for a throw down or its it limited to track side racing. Does bench racing count? What TV stations are in your coverage packages. I am sure some of these guys have back in the day contracts and rights with back and white stations. They might have expired when replaced by NBC peacock color and Now High Def.

Good luck explaining these advantages. Finally lets race and have fun!!!

I had the pleasure of racing with Rich on many occasions. He told me once that since i was always borrowing chain lube and other assorted parts he thought I might be a tax deduction. I think that each track should have a memorial to him and that we retire the number 51 in Colorado. We will forever miss you Rich and thank you for the time you shared with all of us.

    Thanks Jim,
When I am asked if my wife comes out to see me race? I answer her feelings are its hot, dirty, and no flush toilets.
The track here in Canada has a great building with inside plumbing. She has even been to a race. A good track owner thinks of the power behind the drivers who are not all male and their wife’s and mom’s. Yea,The Track See you all soon.

:usa: The usual of moving from one country to another house sale, job change, paperwork, paperwork paperwork. We hope for March when it is warmer so the mice can be shipped and survive. What classes do you have in your ice racing? Remember if you don’t have a least ten classes it couid be a full day of racing instead of a day waiting to race.

A night of racing here is two hours of time trails. Then line up 30-40 karts and three races in one and half hours followed by a meal and a beer. It works well and makes you aware of the clock between races.

The phone rang today. It wasn’t the best time; I was in the middle of taking down some dry wall. I stopped the sawsall and picked up the phone. It was a number I knew well. It was Rick Schmidt and I thought he wanted to borrow my mountain cabin for the weekend. Yes, Rick it’s OK and say hi to Lucy and Roman. The call wasn’t for that reason. It was to tell me about Rich Vito’s medical condition. I nearly dropped the phone for many reasons. I have been in the ICU with my son and the results of that story – most of you fellow karters know wasn’t good. It was like someone had reached out and just kicked me to the ground.

I will continue as not many of you know what Rich has meant to me. During the first World Tag event at IMI, Rich was sure that Rod and I had some special secret. We did – and as the Welch’s of Shockwave attest to – there is no substitute for testing and seat time, seat time, seat time. We simply invested of a lot of time and money into the chassis and the motor and had endless seat time against the stopwatch. We knew a sub IMI minute lap was needed. We just didn’t know if we could do it when it counted. We did and it was a great trophy to win, a Tag national eagle. It looks good on the mantle, hey Freezeman?

I was racing at Steamboat in a CSC race in the Tag Master race. Rich, feeling that he was the senior man of Tag Master (my senior by four months) told me to be careful in the first corners and not take him out. I thought that if I could get around Rich it would be a great day for me. We enter into about turn eight or nine. Charles Gordon had spun in the middle of the turn. One driver went to the left Rich who was in front of me went to the right. He went through the plastic barrier. I followed and about that time another karter hit me. Rich’s head was already down and snapped back went I hit him. His head stayed down and as I jumped out of my kart screamed, “RICH, ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” He said, “Yes – I’m just really pissed right now.” Right now, I want only one thing and that is for Rich to say to me “I’m OK – just really pissed”.

I urge everyone who has ever raced, thought about racing or seen a race to understand what a real racer means. It means that at one time you get to meet a person like Rich. He’s one of a kind. I won’t race here in Edmonton, Canada this week and will send the money to support my friend, Rich Vito. I urge all karters, track owners, and friends to reach down and provide financial and emotional support to Rich and his family. Let them see the light that we karters provide for each other.

:usa: Well Hello USA! I am racing the DD2 in a field of 51 this season. I had my left hand run over by another kart last year when my hand was on the steering wheel. It ended my season last year after six races luckly he missed my head as he went by I had one word and it wasn’t what’s up Andy. I was up to mid pack as far as times and looking at what new tires would do for me the next week. We race on Wednesday nights and most except for myself and two others are arrive and drive people. The shop maintains their karts or they work on them there. We get fuel and a dinner afterward the race it makes for some good moments after the heat of battle has cooled down. I miss Colorado and the great people that I got to race with and all who enjoy the karting enviroment. Thanks to all who have helped me over the years. A special thanks to Doug for walking my friend. Looking for tuning tips and anyone who wants to come up North and help me they would be welcome. Craig Mansfield

:usa: I just got back from the Skylark Lounge. Scott the owner said thank you and wants to come out to a race and see some of the most caring people he has had the pleasure of meeting.

I talked to Bob today and he is still speechless which for Bob that tells you a lot about everything that happen yesterday.

I always knew that karting people were special. I now know why that is because bottom line we care about each others welfare.

I also heard that we should do this again next year. You now know about the Skylark Lounge have a Dayonta 500 party next year.

Kirk, I have your table. Craig

:usa: I just talked to Bob. He sounded the best that he has sounded in a long time. We had a two dollar wager on the 150’s. I asked him what he was doing for the five-hundred. He said that he had no plans so I asked if I came and picked him up would he like to come an watch the race with me at the Skylark. He said that would be good for his cabin fever. He further said that he told Rick about going out with me so he might also come down to the lounge. I told him that I had a friend that was getting there early and he would save a space for us. Sue his wife is following us down so if he gets tired she can take him home. He also wanted me there by 12:30 so we didn’t miss anything. Is that a racer or what.

:usa: Greg Welch has been thrown down on by a friend on the race simulator as to who will have the best times He is so sure he will kick butt that he will be running the event. As a perk he can now he can pick the car and the course. A dollar a try. GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE. A super prize to the winner with the best time.
