ParticipantScott Scott Scott… 8)
We’ve asked that question before on this forum. Check the index. But since I am a Rotax pilot (the most powerful engine in the world and would blow your head clean off if it wasn’t for the neck donut, you have to ask yourself…) and I like you I will tell you to start with a 12/74 to a 12/77 setup and take it from there.
Rich, I am buying the first Root Beer for Scott you can buy him some candy. This is a dollar I am really looking forward to spending!
I am there Saturday…

ParticipantIf you’re buying new, i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, you might want to buy a chassis and engine that you can get LOCAL representation. Why wait for parts in the mail when you could buy them locally and be riding instead of waiting. Call the local shops to see what you can afford and a personality you’ll like.
Just my .02….

ParticipantDane,
Did you check into the hotels near the track that i mentioned? I was just wondering what kind of cabbage they were getting for a room.
Angie, did you ASK if you could change thisto general? I ran it by ‘sis and since she said it’s okay then its okay with me too. I’d have had to sick Dennis on ya!

ParticipantJoe,
Hope this helps…
If you want to stay on the strip stay on the south end ie Mandalay Bay$$$, Luxor$$, Excalibur$$ etc. The thing is this: are you going to be racing and beat by the end of the day to have fun or see the sights on the strip? Since Sloan (where the track is and closer to the California Nevada border) is 15-20 minutes away from these hotels you really don’t have the traffic issue you would going to the Sam Boyd Bowl. So it’s your choice, stay in Vegas the whole time or stay at a few of the places nearer the track. On that note, stay at GOLD STRIKE$, BUFFALO BILL$, OR NEVADA LANDING. All are inexpensive and on race weekends I could care less about having a mint on my pillow! Besides I am frugal at times and all I want is a clean hotel where I can sleep and have a shower and grub. If you stay at Buffalo Bills they have an AWESOME roller coaster! But I don’t know if i’d like to be staying anywhere near that thing since they run it till midnight. Make sure they hole you away from it! I’d ask. The strike and the Landing look nice and the meals are ridiculous. I always would stop there to have a steak – for 5.99!So, in summation, stay on the strip and drive a little to the track (but with no traffic) or stay near the track in a clean hotel with killer food deals. The choice is yours. You’ll have to take I-15 through town and between noon and 7PM it can be like an LA traffic jam so just be patient. Regaurdless, you HAVE to hit the roller coaster! Does this help?
Mark, you have to take the Reno/ Carson City freeway (?395??? it’s clearly marked) to get past Tonopah. Realize that when the F-117 (Stealth Fighter) crashed in testing years ago it wasn’t even acknowledged by the air force (that fireball in the desert is just a wild fire, riiiiiiight..) nor the air base now called Groom Lake (I think). Even with my Vegas connections I can’t even get a SNIFF of the place. So Garwood must be doing sexual favours to get his fuel from there 8)

ParticipantWell Dan, if you’d stay in the senior or geezer (master) class (TaG, you know the NOVICE class :puke )
then you’d know you have a high level of competition in both. Both classes are very competitive and not an arms race. Besides, both classes are only going to get bigger entry fields, watch.Of course, you’d have more fun with your right hand…
😀 shifting gears but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Ask Roger Bonham about flying shifter karts :yellow

ParticipantTom,
Meetings for CSC will be posted well in advance of the season. With all that is occuring now I would say we’ll probably have a meeting sometime before 2005. Just a hunch, hang in there for the news…
Mike Jansen
ParticipantDane,
I think it’s a good idea but I don’t think we all have the ability to take the whole weekend off.
That and (JB, Brad, Stacey, feedback please) the track owners wouldn’t support a weekend without the income of the rental fleet, right?
We just need to run more efficiently (drivers meetings starting on time, efficient pregrid and grid) and rid CSC of the classes that aren’t generating enough drivers. Just my thoughts.

ParticipantDon’t match Dennis’ dress. His is purple with White polka dots. What you wear is up to you (within reason)
:rotate:

Participantthey should run them with the other shifter class. If they are stock then the hot motors are going to blow by them anyway.

ParticipantHey Larry welcome to the fray.
As for being in last don’t worry we’ve all been there. Dennis Garwood (#1 TaG last season, he left the state before he defended his title) said he’d make a CSC race this year and he didn’t, because of this he’ll be wearing a dress along with you 8)
It’s a Geezer class initiation. That and you have to buy and provide resfreshments for the top 3 finishers in class. Rookie hazing is a bear at times but you’ll get used to it.

ParticipantPoints to ponder and go Hmmmmmmmmmmm………
Jim Keesling, when is THE TRACK actually going to be A TRACK?????? I know you got your city approval so where are you?????? I call it a hunch but there are a couple of people who would LOVE to drive another track.
TaG kart at full revs… and being called a rookie class? Direct drive (a kissing cousin of TaG) was where Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna and Fernando Alonso finished before they went on to cars where you wear seat belts!
As with any engine, you run it as lean as possible and see what happens. Same when you rev it to 17,000 revs…

ParticipantLarry,
I might add that if you are reading posts on this website it DOES give you a pulse on things here in Colorado but remember this: How many people in this state actually PARTICIPATE on these forums? Like in most things these days some people use a computer some don’t. Like any message board you have to sift through the junk to find the nuggets…
I race in TaG Masters Class and can say without a doubt that you will not find a class more competitive. We do not have an ARMS race (open checkbook racing like in F1, CART, IRL, NASCAR etc). I know that if i am getting beat someone is a better driver, tuned thier engine and chassis better or put in more seat time away from race days. Yes, CSC Bandimere was good but teh best race of the season (IMHO) was CSC IMI with two packs going into corners two abreast and this happening all race long! I would agree with your kid though. At 12 years of age wouldn’t it be better to walk first before you run? Ask a commercial pilot next time you fly if they started in a jet engined plane or was it a Cessna 152?
As for the whining about being DQ’d etc. That unfortunately is going to happen in any sport. How we all respond with our ATTITUDE determines if we are doing what we set out to accomplish (have fun, enjoy the commeradiere and DO OUR BEST). Yes, maybe we don’t have all the rules set out and the consistent tech inspection, flagmen and workers but they all bust thier arse off for what? ATTA BOY is about all they get. This CSC is in it’s infancy! This was only season #2 of the CSC. Do you think that the Indy 500 got off flawlessly in season #2 (in 1912). I will say one thing abotu tech and that is, the rules have always been posted on this website and bits and pieces of the classes are through SKUSA’s site too (I do not race in Animal, comer, etc so i am NOT an expert on this). If you have a grey area ASK. I didn’t get to the podium busting my arse off only to get DQ’d. I ask, I read, I comply. If you don’t and get DQ’d then point the first finger at yourself and ask “what could I have done?”
So you want to race TaG, great. As for engines I think everyone can tell you that there is no “silver bullet” out there. Cory Siep took #1 (TaG Junior) in a biland and I don’t remember him having an engine issue once. Biland is Brad @ IMI’s baby. He knows his stuff, period, talk to him. About the only motor we don’t have here in Colorado is the Italsystem. It’s only a matter of time till someone thinks it’s the engine of the class. All track owners have the ability to get WHATEVER chassis, engine and parts you want. Support them and they will go out of their way to ensure you get your stuff working properly. If you go outside Colorado to buy something just be prepared for the consequences. If your stuff ain’t working then you can call your out of state company. If I was a shop owner what motivation do i have to help you? I can’t speak for all the shops here but I can tell you this: I had a starter issue on my Rotax and Stacy Cook in Grand Junction was bringing a starter off their rental for me to borrow if I couldn’t get mine working. Brad at IMI has worked on my kart late into the night to get my stuff working better than when I brought it to him. And I would consider buying from a shop in California??? Not a chance I’d have to have my head examined!
Ask questions! Talk to racers and talk to track owners. I can’t believe that you only talked to one shop owner and got only thier perspective. That would be like going to a car dealership that only sells one brand of car, do you really think that they are going to tell you that thier stuff SUCKS and you should buy X instead? You are in the right direction IMO, you just need to talk to more drivers. Hell, I had a policeman in Steamboat asking me questions and I would have talked to him more had I more time (I was heading for my race) and told him to corner me after my race!
We have a great karting community here and this is only my second season! Sure there are a few bad apples that screw it up for the majority of us, why should karting be any different than life? And when this stops being fun and I can’t bust the balls of my fellow compeditors over a beer at the end of the day then I’ll get out too. Read, ask, observe. Jump on in the water’s fine! BTW, at the Steamboat race you’ll find out that we are improving the CSC. Elected Race Director, paid personel etc etc. It is only getting better. As for CRE I can’t comment on that I am too new to the scene.
Hope to see you out there with your son. He’s only 12 once and getting up at 5:30am on a weekend to go race doesn’t give him much time to get in trouble…

ParticipantI for one am personally offended that TaG is a novice class. Tell that to Jack Warrington and others…
What your boys have shown is that there is room for improvement…
