ParticipantHey Andy,
I wasn’t following any of those sites at the time. LOL Keys why I didn’t see it. I was following this website, IKF, Briggs Facebook and LO206 Facebook groups (which told me there are a few different 206 series out there, but not COTA for some reason. Strange). I guess it didn’t get around until the first race. How I found out about it was Greg posting a link to a post here on Colorado Karter. As a 206 driver that hasn’t been in the sport that long I haven’t subscribed to a lot of different news sites at the moment. And seeing how Rotax was Rotax and I didn’t think 206 would ever be added. I was a little shocked. This is great news just didn’t anticipate 206 being added. BTW, this is the article that I was directed to. This was released in January. http://ekartingnews.com/2017/01/05/challenge-of-the-americas-confirms-prize-package-for-2017-adds-lo206-junior-class/. But that is Junior class. Google searches are not finding the articles that you said were released in November. If you have those links I would love to see them. As I would like to add those sources to my list of websites to watch.
The reason for saying I may wait is due to buying a house and other commitments are getting in the way of the dates. I may be able to do Phoenix but I am signing on my house that Thursday. I am already in talks with Greg about seeing what we can do.

ParticipantYes, Good luck to everyone that went!!!!!
With the opening of 206 classes I bet a few other 206 drivers will start to show up to these events. 🙂 Wish they would have announced the 206 additions a little sooner or made it more pronounced. Would have loved to join. Oh well, maybe next year or another of the races.

ParticipantAwesome! If you are looking for a cheap option with 20+ fields and loads of fun and CLOSE racing I recommend the Lo206. Two series this year both using the same tires IIRC and I think two weight classes so this is going to be a great year!!!! If you need a chassis I have two I am selling right now that have Lo206s. One has won 2 championships in 206 and the other one CSC last year and 3 CKT races. 🙂 Both will be race ready and I will throw in a lot of extra parts. Hit me up if you would like more details.

ParticipantGreat to see more join the 206 ranks!!! 🙂 I plan on racing in the dirt race as well! Used to have a dirt kart back in the day that my dad and I built. Dirt is where I learned how to race. 🙂

ParticipantDoes this mean if I am going to buy one I should wait until they announce this for the US? Seems to me that if I bought one now I would have to replace some key parts to make it compliant. New to the Rotax rules so any recommendations/assistance anyone could provide would be helpful. 🙂
p.s. And to the 206ers. No, I am not moving. Just added to what I already race. 😉

ParticipantI was afraid of that Greg. lol This seat is a nice seat from a comfortably standpoint but I have a feeling it is too soft or has been a lot of my problems. Is that what you all are talking about? Is moving the seat forward reducing the flex or something? Just trying to understand what the seat actually does to the kart. Keep in mind this seat is different than what Margay recommends. I picked the seat for other reasons. lol I think that might have been where I messed up?

ParticipantIf I can get work done I will be there!! Busy time of year with Fantasy football and what not. Servers have to be running and in prime shape to allow everyone to login! 🙂

ParticipantThank you Kirk for the recommendation. I actually did move my seat up when I got a new seat a few races back. It did actually help out a lot and going back to baseline setup did help but still slow. Still too much grip with even the baseline. My last change was to go to a harder axle which definitely got the rear end to get loose on Duro’s. This in turn allowed me to add more front end grip. MGs it seems to still be too much grip in the rear. I usually have to add seat struts and widen out the rear. I can’t get rid of the push in the front without putting too much grip in the rear. Hopping and a front end push has been my number one issue from day one with both sets of tires. As you can see running two different sets of tires this season as totally got me all messed up. lol I mean I write everything down and have it all logged. My problem is I make one change and it fixes the issue slightly and then I mess it up again on my next change. Then I go back to what felt good and make another change and it feels good so I keep it. Then continue down the path. I just seem like I am lost. Maybe I am right there and the latest changes need slight modifications. Maybe I have “lost” the feel I need in a good running kart? Granted, I am only a year old in this sport and purchased a well setup kart for my first kart (ItalKart, that I only widened the fronts on all last season.). Buying a brand new kart that not a lot of people know much about it and being new myself was not a good choice it seems. lol

ParticipantI am a bit bummed. Wish I could make it but being out last week for Nationals and a race this weekend I just have too much to do :(. I will for sure be at the next one! Good luck everyone! I actually have driven this part of the track before (last year we got to run it on a practice day) and it was a BLAST!!!

ParticipantWhat a FANTASTIC job everyone has done on the track and the surrounding area. Really love the new curbs in places and the overall maintenance performed! I can’t wait to see what all is to come!!
On Sunday at the end of the day there was SO much rubber!!!! I mean I have never seen the track pick up so much throughout the full season last year. The scrubbing on the track seems to have helped open it up to more rubber! Awesome!
Wish I could attend the race next weekend there but I will be on-call. 🙁 Good luck to all those in the CKT series out at Podium next weekend!!!!! I know you will have a BLAST on this updated track. I know I did all weekend long.

ParticipantLast I heard really late July early August. But that is just a rumor. Something about the city giving them problems. Also some TLC had to be completed on the track.

Thanks. I have been running a 219 chain with gearing from 65-68 and with an 18 in the front. I just put a 19 on it but have yet to run a race since making the switch I just didn’t want to get the gear ratio to low and smoke the clutch I just wasn’t sure where the safe zone is when it comes to gearing. Thanks for the help!
The clutches should be fine with any gearing choice you make. A 67 18 seems to be a good place to start and then go up and down on the back sprocket in order to get close. The other drive gears are for fine tuning. That is what I recommend is focus on an 18 drive gear and start with a 67 and if you hit the limiter too soon drop a tooth on the rear. If you are not hitting the limiter add a tooth to the rear sprocket. Once you have it close you could use the other drive gears to fine tune.

ParticipantHey Joel, are you running a 35 or 219 chain? I run 219 chain and run sprocket gears from 64 – 70 here at the local tracks and drivers (on the clutch) 17-19. You defiantly want to hit the top end as that is where the torque is at. For example at IMI at CKT everyone would hit the limiter at the end of the long straight and some hit it at the end of the back “straight” start/finish line.
Now, don’t get me wrong you don’t want to live on the limiter. It is a balance between the acceleration and top end speed. What I recommend is gear so that you hit the limiter more than you think and dial in from there.
Use the limiter on the longest straight as a tuning tool. You want to hit the limiter right before you are about to break for the turn coming off the longest straight. That is a general rule. Some like to sacrifice top end speed for acceleration for short tracks that need more acceleration than top end.

Most Rotax events are between $500 and $900 for the entry. Includes race tires, 5 gallons of fuel, oil, etc. That is for 4-5 days of racing so its really not too bad.
wow, that isn’t that bad. How the heck did we get 4k in our heads? lol Seems like we have a breakdown in communication. 🙁 I may want to re-look at going to a Rotax National event.
Could you give a breakdown as to how much it would be to run say in Vegas? I would want a mechanic and new equipment or equipment that has been proven to be fast and reliable. As I would have no clue what I am doing on the mechanic side of the house. lol I just want to race. What I am looking for is a full package deal that would get me to Vegas and would be up to my driving skills to get to the top. How much would that cost me? It seems that is what I am really looking for as I did this with the Lo206 and came out to be 15k total for the whole two series (CSC and CKT), new equipment, new trailer, National level event, travel for both series and Nationals, and anything else needed for racing. Turns out I need a better towing vehicle. lol
