I have been hoping nothing is found and everyone is cleared. It is a club race for crying out loud and really sad to hear if true.  Either way it seems like a long time to wait and the longer it goes on the fishier it smells.

Do you know if the CKT in possession of the “official” results? They have a responsibility to expeditiously forward the findings to the protester. It is understandable (does not make it right) to drag your feet if they know the cylinder  does not comply since the father of the driver does tech.

Regardless, Someone must have felt something was pretty blatant to plop down cash at a club race. Does the protester  get the money back if anything is found out of spec?

There is a construction company that is building their office “next door”.

I called the Jet Center. They are finalizing, or just finalized the paperwork and have an agreement with “someone local”. Apparently this “someone local” has already ordered an new fleet of rental karts “being shipped from Belgium or somewhere over there”.

    Me- Time frame?
Jet Center- “somewhere in the next 2 to 5 months”.
“Improvements will be made but the track should / could open while the infrastructure is worked on”.

Whomever this “someone local” is, feel free to chime in. Your radio silence is deafening. I assume “local” could include a couple of brothers on the western slope.

The airport has the preliminary (unofficial?) agenda for the next board meeting up and the Track Property is NOT shown as an agenda item. Not good if you want those gates open quickly.

Jon, it will all come down to the $$$$$ regardless of how strong the bidders are.

How much will the airport and/or Benny and the Jets Center want for the ground and how much will the REQUIRED improvements cost? Can you develop a profitable business around this? If the numbers don’t work, how flexible will the airport/JC be? The airport says they want it there but how bad? Those are the stumbling blocks I see.

If the airport thinks that land is now worth 22c per square foot as written in JK’s original lease all bets are off. That is close to 160k per year for bare ground. FWIW, the first 2 years of JK’s lease had the rate set at 3c per square foot.

I dug around the airport information and called a guy who knows what is going on. He is directly involved in this.

    What I learned as fact:
The Jet Center is leasing the property. This will probably be approved by the board next month.
The airport wants the kart track there, thinks it is an asset and has a lot of potential. They do not want it to be operated as it has been the past 10 years. The Jet Center is on board with sub-leasing.

In order for the Jet Center to Sub lease the property the airport must approve the plans. The airport put out a notice requesting proposals to anyone interested in taking over the track. There were 4 parties who responded initially. Due to the improvements required (water, sewer, electricity, pavement and actual REAL buildings) 2 of the 4 dropped out. They are reviewing the 2 remaining proposals right now. Both remaining bidders are involved in karting and are well financed. Doing this kind of thing is not foreign to either bidder.

    My opinion:
One of them has the thing in the bag (and has for some time) which would make this bid review process more of a formality. Like I said before, this kind of thing does not happen overnight. This has been in the works for several months or longer. If my hypothesis is correct, the strategy, patience and timing of moves were brilliant.

If I am correct, the track will continue to operate and be substantially improved. With improvements and new owners this could lead to the return of a real regional series and the hosting of national events.

The Airport has been accepting proposals for sub-leasing the Track property. It sounds like they have more than one.

Who knows, maybe some karter/person/company has been quietly working behind the scenes with the Jet Center to sub lease the property and keep the track open. No past due obligations to clear up and no blue sky to pay for.

It’s karting, stranger things have happened.

If this is the case, all I can say is Well Played.

I guess we will know in a month or so.

According to the Centennial airports website, the jet center has the first right of refusal on the property at the end of the track lease. Centennial airport has a very informative website.

They have a meeting at 3 PM on the 10th and the track looks to be on the agenda.

    Thanks Curt

He left on Saturday and was on the track yesterday breaking in his motors and driving a couple of different CRG chassis’s.
Waiting for his daily update phone call as I type this.

The Winter Cup is a one off race and this is the 20th year of the event. The track is right next door to the CRG factory and considered the factory “home track”. Christian is racing for Antonio Renda (Renda Race engines). Antonio does motor development for the TM factory. His motors are monsters. Christian is staying at at Antonio’s house and they treat him like family (in a good way).

This will probably be his only “race” in Italy this year. Starting in late April he will be running in the DKM (German Kart Championship). It is a 5 race series
that starts in late April and runs thru October. He will try to do the World Cup as well which is in Le Mans France. Kind of depends on the $$$$. Good thing the Euro is tanking.

We got rid of the Stock Honda motors and it looks like the only option domestically this year will be the Super Nationals for KZ.

    Jay and Tammy:

Personally I would like to say Thank You for what you have done/accomplished for Karting in our state- Primarily the Jr Karter Club.
I know it was a sacrifice and not easy, but what you started was needed and appreciated by many of us.

Good Luck on your new racing adventure.

    Eddy:

Congrats on the progress and plans for 2013. What you have described is what club racing is supposed to be- FUN AND ALL INCLUSIVE. With club racing like PPKRC and a legit state/regional series with SKUSA and Rotax, Colorado can once again be a shinning star.

    Keep it going!!

You may be the top dog at the local and/or regional level, but when you’re at the Nationals against the factory teams it’s completely different. That’s when you realize that spec racing does not exist. Fact is, there’s never been spec. racing and never will be!

I respectfully disagree. Classes based upon National Class Structure offer everyone an opportunity to race within the same rules. You can set up your Kart for local racing and then take the same set up to a regional or national race if you desire. Nationally, there have been many privateers that are not on a “Factory Team” running out front at their local races and having success nationally as well.

Spec means there are limits to what you can do and rules you must follow. To be successful nationally you have to have everything working perfectly-Driver,Chassis and Motor. And even then, Lady Luck has to be shining bright. Based upon what I have quoted you saying, you make it sound like everyone who is successful nationally is operating outside the rules and part of a big team. I know for a fact that is not true.

Racers who are serious about the sport are not interested in having a hybrid version of a couple different race organizations or no support from a national organization. It is clear SKUSA and Rotax are the organizations we need to build a program around. I am sorry, but my take on what has been described as “non inclusive” is racing that needs to stay at the club level for the most part.

Combining SKUSA (Shifter and TaG) with Rotax is the way to start. It targets the majority of those who would support a State Series and offers structure that is desperately needed right now in Colorado. I am sure if the numbers are there, a couple of open classes could be added.
