ParticipantGreenie, Is it a open house for Kart works, or the Green Room?
Noud, I just stopped by the plant during lunch. They have a Coors Light I.V. waiting for Baker! :bb

ParticipantMike,
Awesome logo!

ParticipantI didnt know there was another one in Golden. But i do know there are some good brews in CO.
The Indiana boys throw alot of $$$ towards the silver bullett. I guess that is what ties this to KT-100 racing. Yamaha’s and Silver Bulletts!

Participanthere is a few more shots of Keesling’s helmet

ParticipantLeopard. You have to come out. The Coors plant is calling you.
The TKM 150 I drove was Bud’s. Drove it at Camden, OH and the Lafayette, IN GP. It was fast. Too bad it was on a Indy Kart.

ParticipantA TKM 150 hauls the mail. My lil 100cc TT-75 would get waxed. I remember watching Kurt Burris race a TKM150 open on the 1/4 mile at Ascot. He whooped all the 200cc reed valves (dual engines)
I drove one before, man was it fast!

ParticipantI have about 8 different carbs with the TT-75. I THINK if I tinker with it enough it should fly. I am also looking into getting some other 100 – 150 cc engines to play on. You can find them reasonably cheap. (since they are nothing but boat anchors when it comes to competitive karting)

Participantbecause Colorado is a karting island!
SSX can racing is a great entry-level to karting. I might play a little with some KT-100 stuff if it’s around. I am putting together a kart with a Parilla TT-75, with a big carb and direct drive. It will be fun trying to run with TaG guys during a practice day. ( I wont add any weight).
Maybe Green and some of the Hoosier posse will come out and play one day. I know they would love a tour of the beverage plant here in Golden!
Thanks for the birthday wishes. Too bad I’m old!

ParticipantThanks Greenie!!!
From what it sounds like, IMI MIGHT let a KT class in with the club races. It would be nice to see some SSX can racing locally. If it happens it can be a great thing for Colorado karting.
Brian Robson
ParticipantIt depends on what type of Yamaha class people want?
Open pipe is GREAT racing. But, you need to know your stuff to be fast. SSX can takes a BIG variable or two out of the equation.
SSX can racing was pretty simple on maintainence. A wet clutch SHOULD last a season. It depends on # of discs, and how hard it was used and or abused. I beleive a 1 or 2 disk wet if properly maintained would last a year. (frequently change oil, rotate discs)
Any kart shop in Colorado should be able to order the pipe for you through RLV. Its a fun kart to race. Top speed is only about 60 mph, but it is easier on parts than open pipe.

ParticipantSafety is a priority, priority 1. But, in my opinion and the opinion of one of the worlds BEST orthopedic surgeon who specializes in driver recovery it doesn’t seem to make a difference wearing a neck collar or not.
I’m not trying to pick a fight or anything here. I just feel that it should NOT be mandated. I think others have stated a great case about the level of comfort that the neck collar has taken away while driving. Last time I checked, your comfort level while racing is the SAFEST thing you have going for you. If you feel safe with one, wear it! If you dont, dont. Pretty simple.
Mikey, thanks for the concern about not crashing, but your about 24 years too late! Yes I have crashed many times since I started way back when. Broken elbow, ankle, concussions, and even a broken collar bone. I was wearing a neck collar when I broke my collarbone. Probably would of broke with or without the thing. It happened in 1986 around the time IKF made it mandatory.
And finally, it is all about the insurance company. It is basically what they deem safe. What really needs to happen is to have a full study on the effects of using one vs not using one. But of course that costs $$$ and I dont think that NKA, IKF, WKA, IRA, or any other karting insurance company is going to make the time and effort to put this long debated issue to rest.
Nothing but love for all of you, just stating my case.

ParticipantRicky-Bobby,
As you know I am not working. I am seeking medical help so I dont turn into you!! I like being able to turn my neck when someone calls my name.
SSX can if a wet clutch like a DXL is used, it wont see much abuse. On a SSX can set-up you set the stall/slip at around 8,400 RPM. As opposed to a open pipe set-up where you slip it to 9,400 and higher. Please realize my Yamaha knowlege is from 1984-2001. I havent race one since 2001, but helped a lot of succesful Yama-dogs back in Indiana. When I last raced Yamaha SSX can I used a L&T single disc dry clutch. I flipped the disc every race and replaced the (then) $25.00 disc once. Not bad for a 12 race season in SIRA.
Get back to work Rick. Quit reliving “the pass” in Lajunta. It makes Dave sick!

ParticipantFletcher,
Simple rule, just make a choice of exhaust.
Yamaha KT-100 per IKF engine tech. SSX can or Open Pipe 360 lbs.
Long live the KT-100! I think it would be great to have KT-100 racing at the local level. I would keep the SSX can for Newbies, and maybe do an Open pipe class if there is enough people competinig. The SSX class has less tuning involved and concentrates on driving skills. It is a somewhat less expensive option than TaG.
Open pipe is a blast, but involves alot of tuning. Tuning consits of Carb, clutch, pipe, flex, etc… :loony: Let alone all the spares needed. (spare clutches, different pipes, etc..) Open pipe racing is also tougher on the engine. A KT-100 w/SSX can will go all year without a rebuild. Open pipe will have you doing a top end every 3-5 weekends max if you want to stay up front.
Just some things to consider.
BR
Brad, Good job considering this at your club!
