ParticipantKinda fun to read what some of those crazy Aussies do with their free time. The beauty of Rotax is totally torn down by those guys but it looks like they have great time doing it. Could open it up to a money thing. But they are unleashing the full performance potential of this motor even if it is at the cost of reliability. It would be cool to run one that would only last a race (maybe) before expiring. I’ll bet “set on kill” these things can scream.
I’m glad it’s regulated here! Can you imagine having to have 5 Rotax bullets waiting in the trailer to get through the Tag Worlds. I think my one little Rotax has a chance!!! Maybe not, but that’s what one hopes anyway.

Think you could sneak that box by tech? Can’t even see the motor! May even need an elbow pad for your air box? LolSeems fair it didn’t ultimately affect the outcome of the race for those engaged in a points battle.

ParticipantTom Dennin Posted: My Billett Performance Karting Rotax/Arrow kart was running great…
I’ll bet it was!!!
I saw Brads post regarding the Tag Usa boxs. We did some experimenting earlier (no dyno or anything just during open practice) and those motors absolutley scream with the carb set up correctly, and the aftermarket box. I think a mid 53 second time in Masters is attainable at Imi. But I ws told the same thing, Rotax only box’s. Oem filter, no cutting or modifying the filter or case. When trying to interpret the rules in section 2.2, it’s a little gray, but Marty will clear the grey right up when you call him.

But I was still smiling at the end of the day.If you search deep enough, there are forums in Australia where they run outlaw classes, K&n Filters, 30mm Carbs and tuned pipes and it sounds like they take away all of the restrictions in moving air / fuel efficiently through the motor and these babies just go. It is interesting to read. Sounds like the reliability goes down very quick as a by product.
And it would be a hoot to go out and try some of that stuff and race like that. It could be like an Ica – Rotax and we couuld go super fast and blow em all to hell at the same time!

ParticipantTony,
If you’re still running a Rotax, go with an 11 tooth driver or you will get to big a gear on the axle and may have interference problems with hitting the track surface. I don’t care how smooth the parking lot is, you get a big gear on there and you risk throwing chains.
I would probably start with and 11 / 80 or so. See what it’s doing and go from there. Start by keeping the minimum Rpm at or above 7,000

ParticipantPretty sure Colorado has never had a Kart race anything like this! Good work Jim, should be some great racing.

ParticipantAnd if the ground is there. Take it apart and clean it up. You can also try to jump the breaker (on / off switch) and see if the switch may be giving you problems. Do not turn motor over without the plug wire attached to the plug, and the plug at least grounded uninterupted while checking for spark.
If that doesn’t work. take it to Doug.

Looks like Tom Dennin was killin it!Couldn’t make the race, getting ready for the Grands. Looks like the Tag Masters field was pretty close except Tom. Was he running a Rotax? If so, I imagine it’s in Tag trim.
Good job Tom. I remember a couple of years ago Roman clicked off a string of 54.4’s and Race Control came and verified our Mychron and said some of your competitors think you might be cheating. We had the field by .98 seconds. Felt pretty good to do that on Rotax that hadn’t been rebuilt in 2 years and wouldn’t get out of it’s own way at the start.
What happened in the race? There is no way anyone could have caught him in the race, based on Mylaps times.

ParticipantGarrick / Joe,
It just dawned on me. The OVRP guys will be here next week for the Grands, if you need something, it might save shipping.

ParticipantSorry, we have not run the Maranello for a few years and I’m a little out of the loop. I do know that Trent had quite a bit of stock in storage and I spoke to him a few months back, he is building a sprint car and my wife made soem team shirts for them.
So he still must have some stuff. You guys running the Rs-1? I’m sure he would tell you who he sold his stuff to if you call. And I know he has a lot of consumables left.

ParticipantNot sure but I think Trent from Mile Hi Karting might have stuff left 303-450-1743
If not, you might try Barry at Billitt performance. If not. I think it’s Nevoso Kart for the source. Many Grg and Gp pearts are interchamgable.

ParticipantEven a slight bobble in turn 9 was enough to get a load in the britch’s Should have tried it in a Superkart, wide open down the entire dragstrip (including all the shut down area), just waiting, waiting, waiting, then all of a sudden turn left off of the dragstrip, kart stops to drift, then your go flat out into the rt sweeping banker. What a rush!!!
The esses at Riverside are still one of my favorite complexes in racing. Wow that makes me feel old though.
I should post some old photo’s. I’ll bet Brad and some others have some good ones. I’d like to see some of Superior and Longmont sprint tracks.

ParticipantGarrick,
I think the Mother of all short changes for Charles, was Greeley. Hell mine even needed changing!
Yea, I think it’s pretty positive. The drivers who tend to lock the brakes a lot (like a lot of Ica drivers do) tend to break off the clutch pedestals quite frequent.
All I nkow about tire-pavement interface is… there is a 100% of hte tires abillity to grip. Use it how you want, but there’s only 100%.

ParticipantGood point!
Rick Schmidt
ParticipantNot going to argue with an ME. But we have been racing a while and they lock. There is very kittle pad wear. It is extemely hard to get a perfect plug chop. If the motor locks, so does the rear end.
The rpm range and properties is a little different. Driving wise, not much difference. Cost wise, huge difference.
It is still a momentum class as is Tag. It teaches smooth driving.
Cody also has a point. There is a time to pitch, toss, go deep, me meant it etc…
But go to a big race and watch Rainey from Swedetech standing in the most important corners shooting speeds with his radar gun. (a good one to boot) Thats how important corner speed is. That is typically achieved by smooth consistent lines.
