ParticipantDoug,
Just in case you were serious, I agree that the driver makes the biggest difference. And, yes, as usual, the fast guys were fast and the slow guys were slow.
But suggesting that engines do not make a difference is naive. Surely you don?t think people have their engines blueprinted or sent off to big name builders just because they have extra money to spend? Surely you don?t think a Jr Rotax with about 18 horsepower makes no difference against a Jr Leopard with about 24 horsepower? There is no question that in Tag racing the engine plays a significant role. Most of the time it is not enough of a difference to overcome driver talent but sometimes it is. That is why we enjoy the sealed Rotax class so much. The engine is less of a factor, the racing is closer and, therefore, the event is more fun. In the end, that is what we want ? more fun.

Participant“All of them.”
😆 😆 😆 That’s a good one Doug! I’m still laughing. 😆 😆 😆

ParticipantDon,
As I said in the Vampire post I just uploaded, we couldn’t agree more. The rain made the racing awesome. Like Conner, Jesse had a ton of fun. We’ll also be looking for ways to stay dryer and warmer at the next event. I think there will be a lot of people doing rain dances before every CSC event this year.

ParticipantNot only are the Denso plugs more expensive, they are inferior in performance and foul long before the NGK’s. 👿

ParticipantI have an extra, nearly new engine on hand if you or some else needs/wants to use it. It is a more expensive paper weight than the other paper weight being discussed on this forum.

ParticipantWhile we are discussing plugs, Doug, do you know if the NGK B11EG plug is RMAX legal? As far as I can tell, NGK only makes an 8, 9, and 10 in the BRxEG range. At IMI last weekend my max jet called for a NGK 11. There will be a lot more of that this summer.

ParticipantThanks again guys. It’s sounding more and more like the smart path is to blow off Stars (at least in the JICA class) for this year. 😥 We’ll keep and eye on what they do for ’08.
Meanwhile, Rotax and Tag Nationals!

ParticipantThanks all. I?ve learned a lot in the last 24 hours.
Last year we had a ton of fun and learned a lot running the Florida Winter Tour. We were humbled by the speed and preparation that teams showed up with as well as the number of entries in each class. We would love to get more of that kind of experience and race some really big events closer to home. However, after a little inquiry into Stars, I find it difficult to justify buying a couple of 20K rpm grenades, oh, I mean engines 😆 , to race three weekends of Stars. I?ve also found there will be a whole new set of rules for 2008 and beyond so the current engines may not be any good after this year.
I will inquire about the engine lease or tent space options but I?m inclined to stick with Rotax and Tag for the rest of this year. We?ve run five races already (3 wins) this year and have 23 more on our schedule without the Stars events.
From what I?ve found, I do have to ask why an organization would run races that require such expensive and unreliable motors that aren?t usable anywhere else. I see that Stars does have one spec (Tag) class but that is only for seniors.
The irony to me is that when we were at the Florida Winter Tour in 2006 there were more entries in the Rotax classes than the ICA and JICA classes. The racing in the Rotax classes was closer and the lap times were very close to that of the more expensive motors. Someone help me understand why ICA and JICA exist? Is there something about these motors that are better than TaG?
At least we have the Rotax Nationals here in August!
I’ll give you a call Marc.

ParticipantThanks Angie. I see that they have a Parilla ICA motor. I’ll give them a call today. Does anyone know what the difference is between an ICA and a JICA motor?

ParticipantI guess my opinion doesn’t matter since I don’t have anyone racing in that class. However, from a spectator point of view, I sure do enjoy watching this class race. It would be nice to see them at the CSC events.

ParticipantInteresting proposal. We would fully support either decision. We know it is a challenge mixing the two series. All in all, I thought Sunday’s race went extremely well. Kudos to you and the team. Running Rmax on Saturday also sounds good, especially if some time is still allowed to let the club guys practice for Sunday. In either case, we’ll fully support what you and Brad are trying to do. Keep up the good work.

ParticipantThere was some awesome racing yesterday! Incidental contact is part of the deal. However, there were a few guys over the top with aggressive driving. Hopefully, that will be addressed early in the season.
In terms of racing at the big events there is a lot of contact because you have so many drivers who run at a similar speed. However, we completed in the entire Florida Winter Tour last year with big fields and I don?t recall seeing a single race that didn?t have at least one DQ or position penalty for aggressive driving. They can?t catch it all but they are serious about trying to do so. They have a simple rule I?ve seen enforced several times ? If you make contact with someone (inadvertent or not) and it results in that person being out of the race then you automatically finish behind that person. That might make a person think twice. Nah, probably not. :loony:

ParticipantWay to go Brad! Cheaters suck. If you need an extra engine to replace some of the modified ones, I will volunteer my totally stock, unmodified Honda engine with only ten minutes of run time on it. Just give me a call or PM if you think you will need another.

ParticipantIt’s all those Rotax guys doing the rain dance. I think they forgot that rain in March equals snow in Colorado. I know there is a spec rain tire but what about snow tires, chains and 4 wheel drive? 😯
Of course, it is an April 1st race date… I can already see the April fools jokes revin’ up. 😀 And Mother Nature is playing ball.

ParticipantYeah to all the above. From what I remember, Rotax will allow you to bring drinking liquids into parc ferme but you have to take a drink of the bottle as you enter and must consume the enitre contents before you leave.
