ParticipantThe problem with any engine other than a Honda GX35 and a C51 Comer is that they don’t come on new karts from the factories, and we can only buy kid karts complete with engines. This means for any new karts sold someone will end up with an extra engine somewhere. Hopefully we will see the growth so that there is not a limitless supply of used kid karts available. Adding another class is a negative in my book.

Costs between local and regional races is big….but they are justifiable…. flown in staff, bigger tire inventories, and different track requirements. Would a regional series survive at $50 an entry? 50 entries got paid for at one race at RMPKC. Costs are always trying to be lowered and The Track at Centennial and RMPKC have done so. I honestly don’t believe that solely lowering costs will bring back the glory days. There are many, many other factors.
I think this is spot on. I feel our series promoters across the board have taken steps to drive costs down. I applaud our track owners and series promoters for that.

ParticipantI’d like to hear ideas from more individuals. Here are my general thoughts so far.
Everyone needs to realize that no series had it right last year, the biggest race in CO that didn’t involve the nationals in Grand Junction was a 60 kart club/cjkc race at IMI. All the other club/regional series would pull 25-50 entries per race, which is pretty weak. If your series had it right, you would have 100 entries per race because there are more than that many active karters in CO.
No one is here to say this or that engine package is better or worse or looked down upon or whatever. I personally own a clone, 2 rotaxes, a Vortex KF, and a Honda Shifter, and the low power clone is one of the most fun to drive. I had one of my mechanics race it at IMI and he loved it.
Please re-focus and try to come up with some new ideas on generating interest and putting bodies into seats.
Why can’t we run a rental series on the same day as races? Brad at IMI tried it, was it promotion or lack of interest that made it not work? Cost?
My team and I in the Performance Division have come up with a plan, a transformation if you will, that we will be implementing over the winter that will allow us to push the rental guys at Unser into outdoor karts. I’m hoping that as a community we can make a push to drive more people into karts, get our series numbers back up, and in turn have a lot more fun racing at the track.

ParticipantI bought my clone over a year ago with the intention of using it as a coaching and demo kart, and for that it has served its purpose extremely well. Its nice to have a kart that is closer in speed to the Micro and Mini classes for the kids to learn off of. It also has been a great way to let people who have never driven an outdoor kart hop in an experience speed without the risk of damaging expensive parts and engines.

ParticipantLOL!

July is a big month for Colorado racers! The Rotax Shootout, RMPKC, SummerNationals, and the Rotax Grand Nationals are all happening in the next four weeks. After speaking with several racers and racing families, The Track has decided to move Racing the Rockies Race #3 to a later date. With so many people travelling each weekend, we felt the break might be appreciated and needed!
We’d still love to see some racing on July 14, using a slightly less formal format. Plan to come out on Sunday, and for a test/tune fee ($45), we’ll get everyone broken into appropriate classes. It will be a great way to practice starts, and passings, and changes your tuner has made. All kart packages are welcome, so run what you brung!
We will announce the new date for RTR #3 next week.
Everyone, have a fun and safe July 4th holiday, wherever you may be celebrating!
As always, thank you for your support, and we will see you at The Track.

ParticipantI’m thinking of running one of my Rotaxes this weekend, since my super secret Formula A won’t be ready for this weekend…
Hopefully I have the time to put something together.

ParticipantGuys, if you haven’t been down to this track yet you’ve got to check it out. Its a wicked hard little track that can test your driving and tuning skills. Its great to see the track back up, and now one of our own who put his resources into getting it going needs our help. Let us know when the link goes live, I’m in to help out.
