ParticipantRain, rain, go away…
Yes, another day of rain in Norman. Woke up at 6:15 AM hopeful only to have my hopes dashed when I pulled back the curtain. Breakfast at 7:00 AM and back to the track.
No hurry to get out again this morning due to the weather. Clean the carb and airbox, make a few setup changes and head out for a session. Two more days of rain in the forecast. The sun will be a welcome friend when it finally shows itself again. Thankfully our pit is pretty well located so while it is wet, it is not under water as several are. Speaking of, our pit is a pretty interesting place. Our tent-mates are from the Homestead track in Miami and of American or American/Cuban heritage. Dominic, from PSL, is French-Canadian from outside of Montreal. So, at any given moment in our pit, you’re likely to hear a mix of English, French and/or Spanish.
Stayed at the track late tonight cleaning and rebuilding various parts of the kart as I found the edge of adhesion a few times today and stepped all over it. In plain English, this means I shot it off the track onto the grass (completely grass covered infield here…with the amount of rain we’ve experienced, this is no shock).
Tomorrow will be an interesting day as many more racers will start pulling in as registration and equipment check-in is Tuesday. Wednesday, we officially start playing for all the marbles.
Data to analyze and then some much needed sleep.

Participant:type: Back home, I mean back at the La Quinta after a long, wet, dreary, no sun sort of day. You all getting my drift about the weather??? 😉
The track day started at about 8 am after breakfast at the hotel, weather overcast and looking ominous all around. We immediately went to work putting sides on the tent in anticipation of rain and spent the rest of the morning final prepping the karts. I was able to get out for one session before the rain started just to feel the track. Rain came about halfway through the lunch hour, at 1:30 PM. It rained the remainder of the day and is still raining. Again, swamp pit…. {Jim – pack all the tarps!} It will be quite interesting to see people moving in tomorrow and Monday with the less-than-ideal conditions in the pits.
We spent some time early afternoon working on carburetors waiting for the weather to change. No change, so on to wet setups and out we went. I managed to keep it on the asphalt and was able to work on my wet lines. We’re told the weather is supposed to get better on Wednesday; tomorrow it is expected to rain again most of the day.
Rick – you are correct on all counts; the CRG is a great kart and the guys from PSL are extremely knowledgeable tuners and even better people! As for the ‘other guys’, you are correct there too…one simple goal – get better & quicker every session!
All the Colorado guys coming over drive safely. Time for some

Negative. I’ll be there in September playing for all the marbles…or was it that I’ve lost my marbles? 😯

I think you should have a new chassis carved out of a single piece of birds-eye maple or some nice hickory…then you’d surely be the King of the Streets. :king

ParticipantHey Ricky…not to state the obvious, but if he doesn’t have connectivity, how would he see your message?
😛 Just messin’ with ya’! 😛

Participant” “A” games up front…” ouch, that’s gonna leave a mark. 🙂

ParticipantI was going to take the high road…thanks Charles!
How about out of the way?! Mass X Velocity = a mess, you’re much bigger than I… :rotate:

ParticipantThanks for getting rid of the culvert.

ParticipantJim –
Can you please clarify for me? The Track schedule appears as though the Rotax dates are commensurate with the club dates. If so, can you please comment on the questions below?
Will you separate out the Rotax’s or run mixed classes (by ‘mixed classes’ I mean Rotax and non-Rotax of the same type, ie – Club TaG Masters & Rotax Tag Masters on track at the same time)? I’m assuming that for the Club Races a driver may race whatever motor s/he wishes as well as run MG Tires which are not allowed (I know you know this just trying to keep it clear) by Rotax? Also, I believe the Rotax Masters weight is #405 and, if memory serves, SKUSA/TAG USA Masters weight is #390.
Or, will the Rotax Masters run independent of ‘standard’ Club Masters effectively yielding two of each affected class per event?
Or, finally, have I missed the boat entirely and Rotax events are run on one weekend day with Club being run on the other?
Thanks.

No one over the age of, say, 10 ever accuses me of being ‘big’ or ‘tall’…so, a bar set low just means its easier to go over!!!!!
VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! 😆

Participant“Hey guys, last night I spoke to”… Doug Welch. He said the track looked good and they liked their chances. Like most ‘big’ races, he thought it important to get through the heats and the first few corners of the main ‘clean’. He said the straight was not too long and the track would probably be a mid-rpm type of track. No corner at the track is as tight as the hairpin at Centennial. He thought a well-driven Rotax could do well in the TaG Classes despite all of the talk being about Leopards and Roks. He was very enthusiastic about their new car and how the boys have been driving of late. He said he’s pitted next to the Reaction guys, Kartworks is ‘across the aisle’, and Jim Keesling is across from him diagonally. Stacey is somewhere close by as well but right now exactly where escapes me. He said that basically, all of the Colorado guys were together. He said that he really liked the Colorado guys chances this year and hoped that as a state we showed well. No talk of umbrella girls, gambling, or drinking…sorry to disappoint.”
“Hey guys, last night I also spoke to”…AJ Noud. He was still at the track and busy with prep work but as always, was his congenial self. He, too was stone cold sober. He said that he was really excited and there was an ‘electricity’ that you could feel in the air about the event and all the big names there.
“Hey guys, last night I spoke to”… AJ Whisler. He and I talked about the track quite a bit and he said it looked awesome. I think the exact quote was something like “expletive bad expletive!!!” He said it was wider than it looked on paper and there were four corners in a row with great passing opportunities plus other great overtaking areas. He said that he expected all classes to be a dog fight and he was looking forward to getting started today. AJ, too, was stone cold sober…
On a serious note…all three parties commented on the atmosphere and the excitement surrounding the event. All seemed to really like the track and the ‘bumpiness’ was not mentioned by any of the parties. Seemed like everyone was prepped, ready and had their ‘game faces’ on.
Sorry, no stories from anyone about gambling, strippers or any other immoral behavior(s). I think Deason and I should go out there with no agenda other than getting into trouble… :rotate:

ParticipantTeam Hard Kart…four chassis?!
That’s it, I’m calling my sponsor now and telling them to step it up!
I’m going to need to invent some type of new conspiracy theory…it’s entirely too quiet around here!

The ‘real reason’ just isn’t that complicated or that sexy…
At the end of the day, all things considered, I simply decided not to come up to Centennial and risk getting tangled up w/someone in a mixed class ‘fun run’ and potentially do lots of expensive damage to my kart. After blowing my motor to pieces at the last CSC race weekend and, therefore, adding an unforeseen LARGE line item to the 2008 racing budget, I made the decision to go and do other things on Sunday.
Sorry to disappoint…lots going on here and a ‘fun run’ just wasn’t in the mix…
Signed,
:chicken
PS – What exactly is the scuttlebut as to why I didn’t show up? I hope it’s really juicy!
