The race directors and corner staff have got tough jobs and deserve a lot of credit for supporting this sport. It is also a tough call to black flag someone for being careless.

I expect that 90% of the driver never intend to nerf intentionally and 70% probably don’t nerf. But 10% make this more dangerous than it needs to be and the other 20% need to get their knuckles hit hard (as in DQ or losing 5 laps) to let them know they are driving way outside their abilities.

Yes, drivers are optimists and tend to push but some go beyond what is reasonable and others treat karts like closed wheel vehicles. Without consequences for actions, intentional or just bad judgment, the wrong actions get rewarded. Verbal warnings are a waste of time.

At IMI consequences were made very clear. It seems we should spend more pre race time talking about the black flag rather than blue. I mean you are still supposed to keep a line with the blue and if the person is that much faster it is still their responsibility to pass you. Should not be a problem. But nerfing or “overly optimistic” driving can take out the best almost as easily.

Perhaps this will change when the best drivers are sitting on the sidelines for the nationals.

    I understand the CIK aspect.

I had always thought that was one of the characteristics that distinguished road course racing from Nascar. Open wheel or road racing went clockwise while Nascar was go fast, turn left, counter clockwise.

Thanks for posting the schedule. Everyone is looking forward to the new surface and now we know there should be a few weekends of test and tune available before the next race at IMI.

    Angie,

I realize there aren’t any qualifier / heat points, but will you be adding in field points?

It seems that adding in points that reflect field size makes sense as a 4th out of 4 is not nearly as challenging as a 4th out of 20.

Some times it just happens and other times people are just driving stupid.

Our rules are pretty clear (4.5.2 … The basic rule is “no contact”. ), and though I doubt most have actually read the rules, even accidental bumping can be cause for penalties including DQ. To quote 4.5.5 “Blatant rough driving (knocking a competitor from the line or the course, nerfing or other avoidable contact with another kart 4.5.2) is NOT subject to a warning rolled black but instead, a full waving black flag.

Those rules are clear and unambiguous.

It is inane that people are focused on what kind of bumping they can get away with rather than learing how to just drive better and faster.

    Angie,
    Thanks for posting the points.
Id there a published formula for how the points get calculated?

I thought the taco was more Central / South American food rather than Spanish food. I’d much rather have some tapas than a taco.

They teach “American English” here which is significantly different from “Brittish English”.

Well, actually I’m not sure they really teach much American English either :idn:

While I voted, I think it would be better if votes were separated by the class you are running. From a TaG perspective I would support the split.

But when the series and dates were established I believe that many of the RMax racers liked the idea of being able to place in the Club Series even if they didn’t make the Nationals cut for RMax. RMax participants should get priority votes.

Rear bumper bumps from catching a draft or coming up close isn’t an intentional bump. But can’t agree with no harm…
The rules are there to be followed.

Anyway the issue is with blatant or flagrant bumps that send someone off into a bad wipe out. Sometimes they are intentional and sometimes the person just is driving out of control and uses the other kart as a bump brake. In those cases a black flag should be thrown.

The rules are also clear that unintentional bumping will occur and it is up to the judges and Race Director if those get penalized and to what degree.

    I guess ditto, sort of.

Like the large field but as I stated in another post it would be very bad for a good racer to get nerf’d out of the Nationals due to someone who is really running in a different class.

I could support a split in the interest of reducing collateral damage from a parallel class. It also might make the club series more of a “club level” rather than a “regional level” which is what it is now.

Another possibility to consider. Run both on Sunday but run all kid/Jr classes in the morning and Sr/Masters classes in the afternoon. That would make the day a bit longer for a few participants, but shorter for most participants. It would also reduce the time waiting between racing for everyone.

I’ll probably be out there this weekend. Saturday before racing I have the first big R/C Airplane Combat meet of the season, so I’ll have that on Sat and kart racing Sun. See you at the race.

Here is a video of roughly laps 7 – 12 of the Mini Max race on 4/1/07 at the Track. Sorry but the video conversion has some stuttering from time to time.

Those 5 or 6 karts in front were practically on a string. Very impressive racing!!!

Even just these laps are about 43MB. If you want to make it available on the site (along with laps 5-20 of TaG International, let me know, I’ll burn a CD and send it)

well it is probably too late in the season already, but we could just convert TaG for CO to use Mojos or MGs. While I know the MG’s will have more grip the concept of a consistent tire that can last 1/2 of a season is really appealing. Maybe for 2008 we run both classes together with just Mojos :idn:

You would still have weight differences but the driving would be closer (excepting for little things like skill and experience) 😯

    Eduardo,

Great racing with you this weekend. It was fun swapping places back and forth in the Main. I think we were fairly close in the Heat race as well until my untimely departure 😥

Looking forward to seeing you at IMI where perhaps you can show me a bit of how to race at that track.
