ParticipantI think I spoke too quick. You’re right. There are some things I didn’t take a look at.

ParticipantI just did a little calulating and I think we can declare winners in most classes. If I’m wrong, I’m sure some one will be glad to point it out!
Kyle is a 2 time champion this year, taking both Pro and Tag Senior.
Shawn gets the nod in Shifter Masters.
Brothers Farley, Austin and Andy, get the 80 junior classes.
MiniMax goes to a future NEXTEL Cup champion, Chase.
Roman comes out on top in Tag Masters.
Conner gets the Animal class.
Tate is our kid kart champion.
Classes with battles.
Novice Shifter.
It’s down to Keenen and JD. Who ever finishes in front of the other gets it.
Spec Honda
Same story, Keenen and Roger.
Tag Junior
David, Pat and Jesse T. all have a clear shot at it. Jesse R. mathmatically is in it but he needs a bit of help to get the top spot. If David finishes ahead of Pat and in the top 3, I think it’s his. Everybody else who wants to win the championship, has to win the race. These kids are all so close that its hard to pick exactly where each needs to finish relative to the other kids. This one will be fun to watch.
Briggs Mod
Greg or John
K80
I think Angie needs to look at the points total again. The drops for Pete maybe in error.
The drops do affect who wins in some classes.

ParticipantHow about that Tag Junior race!!!!!! 4 drivers, all with a shot! Hopefully, the Centenial race will be a barn burner.

ParticipantI like the Oct date. There will be more racers there.

ParticipantRats, another go fast secret is out!

Just think how fast you would have been on one of those black chassis’ I keep reading about!
If I’ve learned anything, fast guys are fast regardless of the color of the tubes. I heard there was time in a neck coller this weekend.

ParticipantAll 3 tag classes had run away victories. The one common thread, they all had Shockwave Karting stickers on them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I just had to throw that in. Hats off to David Zippie in Tag Junior and Justin Simonson in Tag Senior. Both had their first wins in their respective classes. It must have been a weekend for first time winners. Troy just had one of those days we all wish we had.
I just checked MyLaps. I see why Troy was so quick. His best lap time was 15 seconds @ 144 mph!!!! Now that’s flyin!

ParticipantThere seems to be a misconception that karting in Colorado is so badly broken that it needs “reform” to straighten it out. I maybe one of the culprets in this misconception.
In many ways, karting here in our state is as strong as it has ever been and compared to many regional series around the country, they should be looking at us with envy.
For example, the regional series in OK-Texas, The Southwest Regional Cup, is drawing numbers far below us. The Great Lakes SKUSA series has yet to come any where near 100 entires, mostly in the 60-70 range. Even the high flying PKC, its last two races are well below our last two races in numbers. 114 vs 97 and 103 vs 89. The Cascade region has yet to break 100 entires and has had to cancel a race due to lack on interest!
Compared to our neighboring states, we’re killing!!!!!!!!!
More to the point, what I’m seeing is a trend that we can correct and get better. Its not that we need to tear what we have down and start over, rather its a matter of tweaking and improving. Over the past 3 years, the attendance of club racing has gone down and the CSC has suffered at bit also. Our old high CSC numbers were in the 140 to 150 range. Now, they are in the 110 to 120 range. Our club series used to be in the 50 to 70 range, now in the 30 to 40 range. Clearly we can and must reverse this trend.
I think we all agree the number one problem is too many races has spread the limited pool of racers too thin. The best first step IMO is to reduce the CSC to 5 races. I strongly advocate no drops for a number of reasons but the main one is so that we don’t get into the situation like this summer the Cascade region got into. One race required travel so a majority of the racers decided to ‘drop” that race. Bottom line it was cancelled. In our case, I’m afraid that the Grand Junction race would fall into that catagory. That would be grossly unfair to the Cooks who have supported karting in every way possible. They deserve a race and a great turnout at one of the best tracks in the country. It is the least we can do for their unwavering support over the years.
The other major problem is too many classes that has taken a race day and stretched it from dawn to dusk. At the same time, we have had to shorten the race lengths way too many times just to get it all in. We’ve cheated our racers out of track time they paid for and were promised. We have got to deliver what we promised. A maximum of 9 classes meets the goal to reduce the total length of the day while giving the racer all the track time he/she/it is looking for and paid for.
All we need to do is, as Mike said, Git-er-done.

Dictatorship:
I have long said, karting needs a benvolent dictatorship.
My suggestion for Colorado. A group of 6 or 7, track owners and a couple of other long term karters/shops get together and make it happen.
Classes should be broken into club level, regional level and national level based on participation.
Club level More open rule structure, more classes. Not all tracks will run the same classes as they will run those classes that are strongest in their area. For example, this year some classes in the CSC did very well at certain tracks, very limited or not at all at other tracks. While these classes maybe great classes and offer great racing, they ARE NOT regional classes and should not be in the CSC. Each track owner should be free to decide which classes he/she/it wants to run based on their customer base. Tech would be limited to non-exsistant.
Regional classes, ie, the CSC. More limited than club level racing. There should be at most, 9 classes. Races should be longer, 25 lap mains and 15 lap pre-mains. Lets find out who can drive. The rule structure should more closely follow national level rules and give a place for both the national level racer looking for more racing and the stronger club level racer looking for better competition. The regional races should be very limited in number so as not to over power club level racing as we have found in recent years. No more than one race per month or less would be better and no drops. You want to win this championship, you better show up AT EVERY RACE and bring your A game. Tech should be strong but no nit picky.
People keep brining up the PKC. Lets look at why its strong and would it work here. Based on its class structure, it won’t work here. We flat don’t have enough senior only drivers to make a go of it. We couldn’t do it before (SKUSA was here before, Rusty started it, Grady finished it), why would it work now?
But one thing it is doing very right is limiting it’s structure to a resonable number of classes and giving its racers plenty of racing. What I’m suggesting falls right in line with the PKC, limited number of classes, more racing.

ParticipantWe have a public forum, right here. We already know what the problems and what the solutions are, we’ve discussed it many, many times, right here on this public forum. Still another meeting is just more yada, yada, yada.
Mike said it best, we need to get it done now, give racers time to sell old equipment or get new. There is no need to wait until the end of October. What could we get done then that we can’t get done now, today?
George, I am postive. I’m positve we have 4 legitimate tracks in the front range, not 3 and we need to get it done now, not two or three months from now.

…….each of the front range’s three legitimate kart racing facilities. These numbers will not continue to support racing at any on the three tracks and puts the future of the CSC in serious doubt IF all the tracks went to strictly commercial operations. [/b]I count 4 legitimate tracks in the front range, While Action Karting does not hold club races, I would bet that J.B. sells more karts, new and used, than just about anyone in the front range. And guess what, he sells them to new racers. The man works his renters better than anyone I know.
I know Geroge you said all kart track owners, but to say there are only three legitimate kart tracks in the front range of Colorado, insults the hard working folks over at Action Karting.

ParticipantEnd of October is a month too late. We need to get the decisions done now for next year. People are already making buying decisions for next year and an end of October meeting followed by more meetings means nothing is decided until Chritmas. 4 months too late.
A meeting with all the track owners, all the shop owners and some racer reps will end up a big bitch session at worst and at best, an unweildy group too large to make decisions. Better to have a small group make the decisions now so the whinning and complaining can get done this fall and we can get on with the racing.

ParticipantChris also had to cancel his last event due to poor turnout. I had a long talk with Chis last week. His regional series is doing fair but he started with a 7 race series with 1 drop. Most racers decided that their one drop would be his race scheduled for Canada so he had to cancel. His club series is in the tank and he makes more money off rentals. (Does any of this sound familer?) Next year he’s thinking of dropping the regional series entirely or doing only a 2-3 race regional deal to see if that increases the club stuff.
He dropped the junior classes from Cascade Locks due to danger considerations. Pre-registrations are way down for it and he’s not sure how it’s going to turn out.
