Hey derrick you r very welcome it is great 2 c your enthusiam about Karting, it’s a great sport .. The vids you shot are good, lets make a better one and more to follow at the Track that started it all for Karting in Colorado, also got to say I have not seen anyone progress as fast as you since my son Garrett Arellano #32 and Chris Figgie my nephew. But that being said we can further tune that chassis to be faster, looking forward to working with you if you want.. Also a Big thanks to Brad At I.M.I for all his help this weekend for helping me catch the wave, cant say eneough good things for some one who was instrumental in making karting what it is here in Colorado, Stay tuned for way better vids from Famous I.M.I, The Indy of Karting…

Yes, 4bangers were around then but not all teams were required to run a 4cyl engine, and I think BMW was the only one developing that platform, not sure didnt realy start following closely till 1998. The engine size would give more room for futher developement of K.E.R.S and fuel cell capacity. I hope 2012 isnt the last chance to hear a v8 at 18000 rpm.

Hey Rick thanks for compliment, sure miss the racing thing. Good to see new people picking a cr package, hard to beat the fun factor in stock trim, also good to see new people getting into the sport the way this economy is. Talked to my nephew last nite and him and derrick found the sweet spot adjusting the clip position and testing main jet combos. I would say alot of us that were racing on a regular basis are a good source of info for new people. Pretty cool to see we are getting a purpose built track for F1 in texas, although who would of seen 4 cyl. engines finding there way into F1.
    Take care

Hey Derrick, I forgot to add make sure the cdi and coil are at least 4″ to 5″ apart. I dont recall how it was set up when I looked at it, if you dont have any luck this weekend let me know I’ll see if I can meet you at the track and get it running right for you, make sure you have cold oil cans for after..

Like I said, when you are at the track and you are on the the back stretch pull your choke lever up when it cuts out that alone will give you good info and dont change the plug gap they are pre gaped, very unlikely it is the coil, you are starving for fuel. Cold temps = rich jets warm temps = lean, the weather is looking better for sunday testing, start with a 170 main high temp for sunday is 41. If it were the coil it would cut out all over the rpm range.

P.S. I’m the guy that got your mychron to work

hi derrick, not sure what size carb you are running or if you have a pump around system, pull your float bowl off and tell me if you have a float still installed or a sponge like material in place of the float bowl, and check floatbowl needle for wear if applicable, but you are certainly starving for fuel at the upper end. next time you are at the track pull the choke plunger up when it cuts out and see what the engine does that will tell you which way to go on your jetting.

    Hi Garett P,

Cool name, that’s my son’s name except spelled with two R’s. Maybe you might of seen him around he drives a yellow track magic #32D S1 last year and 80 junior prior to that. He ran fast lap at the 2004 Steamboat race and finnished third due to my last minute change.
Any way I think it’s great you are able to race many tracks not every one has that kind of time & $.., but you might be getting the wrong impression of Brad. Due to a employment change for me last year I had limited funds to spend on my sons racing. I have known Brad since 1998 when my son and I first got into the sport. Last year Brad helped me out by allowing me to work for him at the track. The extra money and employ prices on parts made it possible for my son to race the limited number of races we did race last year. This is just one of many good things Brad has done for people and the sport of karting. You realy don’t get to know people well untill you work with them or for them and I can tell you my experience last summer was very positive. I caution you very strongly on your judgement, because if you had a chance to witness some the customer service Brad provided to customers at no charge last summer, and years prior you might have a real guilt thing going on.

    Go Fast, have fun

Kart racing here in Colorado back in the late 90’s was growing, organized, had rules, Fun, and the entry fee was less. This was all (pre skusa era in co.) I could add more but, it is late and I think those points about cover it..

    Have fun go fast!!

    Hi Stacey
No, I was not able to make any GJ moto x or super x races, did race the super x at the western stock show arena and pikes peak super x a few times and Greely super x, nothing like a temp track in a stadium, my favorite for sure. Raced 1990 thru 1998, never enough in one season to mark out of vet nov. And yes you are right, Moto X sure runs alot smoother than karting. I have never been lucky enough to race karts, like I said, my son Garrett #32 has been the driver for the last 8 years, I just try to make it run right. Some times I nail it, and other times I Catch alot heat from the driver. 2006 season might be my first season in a kart as A driver. Garrett was really burned out after the Steamboat race this year mostly my fault, and wants to take a break for 06. So, I will have a 125 to play with, looking forward to driving GJ Looks like a realy fun track…

    See Ya,

    Mike,
Sounds like you were very competive in BMX, I raced moto X here in colorado SRAC (http://www.cosportsriders.com) until 1998 when my son decided he wanted to race karts needless to say my moto x racing went by the way side. How ever, a drop race is unheard of in SRAC and I guess that way of thiking is still present for me. People that were real serious about season end results never missed a race, and people that were semi-serious raced as many as life, schedule, etc. permitted. So, not having a drop makes it seem more like a sport than a hobby, but that’s just what I think. Oh yea, alot of other forms of motor sports think along the same lines, that’s where I got that from.

    Like Bobby says “Speed SAFELY”

    Mike,
Would’nt you rather have last place points instead of 0 as a drop.
It could make a difference at the end of the season.
A DNF is a DNF that’s just racing.

Seven sounds great, drop races make no sense at all..
Why spend time and money on [ x ] number of races if one of them will not count.
