ParticipantI do not understand what the drop question is doing on the 5 or more. Why not ask how many races they want and how many drops. This poll is missleading.

ParticipantBrad,
You are right. I should of had a seperate poll on if a drop at all and if so, how many races to get a drop.
Next poll?
So everyone out there responding, please use only the top two options.
Thanks,

ParticipantJim,
I like your poll, it’s a great general basic question. If anything there is going to be more demand for spots on a state series schedule. One suggestion. With the choices being more or less that 7, this leaves out 7 itself which creates a huge % margin between 6 and fewer & 8 and more considering the low original numbers? Also, I was assuming that you were refering to the optimum number of races in a series like the CSC where the races may be located state wide and not how many races for a track club series? I realize you mentioned travel, etc. but this could still apply to club races. Maybe choices like: What do you feel would be the optimum number of races in a state wide championship series?
1. 5
2. 6
3. 7
4. 8
5. 9
6. 10And,
Should there be drops? Yes No
And if there should be, then does 1 drop for 5 or more races make sense? Yes No
Stay tune for a general post regarding 2006 and beyond.

ParticipantSeven sounds great, drop races make no sense at all..
Why spend time and money on [ x ] number of races if one of them will not count.December 7, 2005 at 2:30 am #52056Anonymous
Inactivei say more than 7

ParticipantKen,
The drop is nice when you have a VERY BAD WEEKEND mechanically or accident wise and you take last place.
Been there done that… But that’s last season 😀
:bang

ParticipantMike,
Would’nt you rather have last place points instead of 0 as a drop.
It could make a difference at the end of the season.
A DNF is a DNF that’s just racing.December 8, 2005 at 4:46 pm #52059Mike Jansen
ParticipantKen,
I like the fact that you have to be consistent but have a rotten weekend by your own mistakes or taken out by others and your flat out SOL. If we only had a couple of contests like promoto or stars I’d understand. However, have two people challenge for the championship decided by a DNF is unfortunate. I like the drop and considering the schedule last year (Mother’s Day race, Father’s Day race, July 4th holiday) and a drop gives us all a “regular” life too. When I was racing BMX in my teens the family holidays meant I could never be in the top 5 at the end of the season.
I like the drop, IMHO it should stay. Along with Rotax weight at 395…

InactiveRotax at 385 lbs. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rotax at 375 lbs. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with one drop-the Mothers/Fathers/July 4 should be off limits.

InactiveDrop is a must, not only for misfortune and holidays but what about vactions that were planned and payed for before the seasons schedule came out? If we did not have a drop last year I would have had to make a choice weather to fall from 2nd in points to last place or cancel a 2 week cruise in Greece. 😥 It also adds another element excitemnent. If the drop is used for Vacation, Holiday ect. now you must finish the rest of the races with no bad luck. Kinda fun.

ParticipantMike,
Sounds like you were very competive in BMX, I raced moto X here in colorado SRAC (http://www.cosportsriders.com) until 1998 when my son decided he wanted to race karts needless to say my moto x racing went by the way side. How ever, a drop race is unheard of in SRAC and I guess that way of thiking is still present for me. People that were real serious about season end results never missed a race, and people that were semi-serious raced as many as life, schedule, etc. permitted. So, not having a drop makes it seem more like a sport than a hobby, but that’s just what I think. Oh yea, alot of other forms of motor sports think along the same lines, that’s where I got that from.Like Bobby says “Speed SAFELY”

ParticipantKen,
That was decades ago! I raced at Trabuco Canyon the only year they had a national race there. They had a jump at the top of the canyon and we were landing halfway down the mountain, it was insane. Corona, Western States arena et al. Now it’s all houses.
I just hate repeating what happened then. I want a chance to compete for the top spot. Considering this season I’d have been happy just finishing in Masters at all the events. I figured my cost per lap and I (still) don’t know why I was smiling….
😥 8) But it’s still fun and Michael Andretti never won Indy either…

ParticipantKen, what year did you start racing MX in the SRAC? Did you ever make it over to one of our SX in Grand Junction?

ParticipantKen, I am also an ex AMA/SRAC -motocross/supercross racer that switched to kart racing due to a near fatal practice crash 5yrs ago. FORGET everything you know about motorcycle racing cause kart racing is a whole diff. animal. It will drive you crazy if you look at kart racing through motorcycle eyes. Its very obvious why kart racing is such a tiny sport compared to motorcycle racing. IMO Its full of B.S…Love to race though. 😀
