InactiveOkay Richie,
Watch out what you wish for! Before you know it there’s gonna be one screamin’ leopard all over your arse. I’ll have the number “51” sewn on the seat of my suit .
Hey man, lighten up! I would have been out there in ’03, but 3 cases of badly bruised ribs got in the way, and well, who was in the tower all season makin sure you guys had a properly scored race? Hmmmmmmmmmmm? I’d be workin out tomorrow, but I have this shoulder with 4 pieces of bone floating around in it that needs healin.
That said I WILL BE BACK AND WITH A VENGANCE!!!!!
You have been given fair warning. Be prepared.
One thing – I guess we won’t have Romero to avoi…….er…….race against next year 😯 .

Chaz you are blowing smoke with the leopard. Until I see your Butt on the track and racing and you beating me you got little to say.

InactiveChaz,
Your latest post intrigued me. Is Benny not crashing, errr racing next year? That will be good for everyone’s pocket book and there really won’t be any Bilands on the track from what I can tell.
I will try and make it out there this weekend, but I’ve got some friends in town – yes I have one or two.
I really would like to see a few money races over the next 2-4 months. Mortgage business is down, as you could tell from Mike’s post – I’m going to the store right now to get my government cheese and crackers.
It’s good to see that everybody is still fired up about racing and we have these same debates about the Tag motors.
Final answer – You can’t go wrong with the Rotax or Leopard both have great support and have a proven track record with winning races in Colorado. I will be racing a Leopard next year teaming up with one of the shifter drivers who is going to run tag in ’04.

Rich, Dennis, fellow rotaxians (sounds kool doesn’t it) What is the cost to crate, ship and top end a rotax? I need to know so i can trade in my government cheese or food stamps for real money to support this habit. And how much time does it take from day shipped to date returned.
Mike
We had to send off both of our motors this summer (blow by on the crank seal, which is very uncommon) we have Curtis at Acceleration Karting do ours. We were cruched for time on one motor and sent the motor off monday morning with a race the following sunday. He had the motor by tuesday morning had finished the rebuild and had the motor back on ups that same night. He sent the motor 2nd day and we had it on our door thursday afternoon. You want to talk about good service. On the second motor we again sent it out on monday morning 2nd day both ways and had it back on friday. The cost was right around $300 +shipping. Although just a top end should be in the $250 range since they don’t have to split the case.
Another person who is good to work with is Andy Seeseman of Full Throttle Karting out in southern Cali. I believe A.J. has used him in the past and he is a great guy to boot. He is also a Birel dealer so if any of you have a red chassis hes a good guy to talk to esp. if your running a rotax.November 8, 2003 at 1:16 am #45179Ben Schermerhorn
ParticipantNext, Year I will be going TAG with a Leopard. This year I ran Blue Wazoom and what a poor turnout for CSC races. So we decided to move up! 😈 So, we will be there, a new learning experience.LOL

2004 could be a very interesting season. TAG might just be “the” CSC class. I’ve heard talk that some of the pro shifter guys are thinking seriously about playing in the TAG sandbox. BYW, anyone interested in sponsoring Colin? 😉November 9, 2003 at 10:36 pm #45183Brad Linkus
ParticipantIt will be hard for Benny to race, the department of corrections will not release him for racing from Cannon City and his cellmate boyfriend 👿 is afraid he might get hurt. There will be alot of Bilands racing next season Dennis what are you talking about?

InactiveWhat a gorgeous Colorado weekend. Fun time at the track I bet 😀
No more dangerous Ben on the track-ya I heard also. what a way to ruin your life-stupid! It will be a little safer.
Pro shifter guys coming down and playing in our sandbox-why? Why did somebody say not many Bilands next year–everybody switching to Rotax?
Took my engine apart. Looked at the gears and one was completely eaten up and 2 more a little worn. Broke the seal and took the head off just to see what the heck I got in there. Cylinder wall perfect, reeds perfect, piston black, crank I don’t know. will box it up and send it to my freinds at Acceleration-Curtis, Chris and Brooke–GREAT service. 2 complete yrs on the engine. Looks like a $150-$400 repair bill possible.
I put on 10.1 hrs in 2002 and 12.9 hrs in 2003 on the motor
Chazer keep #51 in your sweet dreams during the off season, come season time I don’t want to hear anymore injury excuses. 🙄 Put your pillow on your butt 😆 as I will be kicking it all next year. No more scoring tower excuses either. 😈
It looks like TAG is really catching on!

InactiveWell, I’ve made my choice. I wrote a check to J.B. @ Bandimere Saturday for an Avanti/Leopard. I enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone down there, and I can’t wait to get in my kart! ( I will have to wait two weeks though 😥 ) My plan is to drive it as much as possible before the season starts next year. Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions on the motor. You have all been very helpful.
See you at the track!November 10, 2003 at 3:20 pm #45186Anonymous

The shifter guys – I can speculate, but at least one person (Sr/Hvy) I know is going TaG is doing so for two reasons: costs and ease of maintenance. That, and the field is undoubtedly, one of the best.
Going Rotax? Now Rich, why would ANYONE want to drop their Biland for a ‘Tax??????? Hmmmmmmmmmm??????? 🙄
I don’t know about the Biland numbers Dennis mentioned. We already know about Romero, so that’s one down. I also know a Biland guy who is giving VERY serious thought to a Leopard, so that’s a possible two. On the other hand, Dustin Courter started showing up at IMI late in the season with a Biland kart, but there’s no telling if the Courters will be a regular fixture at IMI or CSC next year.

Well, Rich, I won’t make any injury excuses if I’m not injured. With any luck we’ll have someone trained up for taking over scoring – I know I sure don’t want to do it any more. Three years officiating is enough I think. You’re gonna kick MY butt? Oh I don’t think so!
It looks like TAG is really catching on!
Yay! I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if TaG Sr was the largest class, by a wide margin next year. By ’05 we’ll need another TaG class just to keep things managable. What would it be, though? a Masters or a Pro class?

ParticipantGentlemen (and Dennis) 😈
A few Questions for all the recent posts.
1) Rich you said you change the oil on your rotax, are you talking about the gearbox and a gear eaten up there? (i am still learning, sorry)
2) Dennis, so you joined the dark side eh? 🙁
3) Another lepurd on the track eh? Just one more Lepurd to have BEHIND the rotaxes!
4) I suggest you all start training now because resting on THIS years laurels ain’t gonna cut it for NEXT year. Next year will rock in the TAG class. Better get fast or you’ll be last! And last means your a Nancy Boy.
5) Money race is fine with me. Nancy Boy (last) gets a thong… 😀 😀Mike Jansen

InactiveThe Leopardians warmly welcome DB to our revered (and cool) ranks.
Together we will squash all Rotaxians flatter than whale poop!
While up at Bandimere yesterday (Sunday) I happened upon Rod Ebersole. Rod has been “thinking” about TaG for next year and well he should. His class (Animal) has no more than six karts presently, and of those we seldom see more than four. Rod is undoubtedly one of the fastest drivers in CO, bar none. It would be utterly great if Rod came on over to race with us.
The beauty of this thing is, that besides having what promises to be a huge field in ’04, we will also have a really deep field. IOW, it won’t be a bunch of shoes mixed up with a couple backmarkers. The skills represented by the TaG Sr. class runs a full spectrum from beginner to expert. You will always have someone to race no matter where you are in the field, including last.
I also think we should now start refering to Rotax-powered karts as “Rectum Karts” – every a-hole in Colorado has one.

InactiveHey Mike,
I was talking about my gear box. You should take your plate off and look at the 4 plastic gear and one metal one. They do wear out-this will be my second set of gears in 2yrs. They are easy to change out. I am sending mine in as is because I have a spare set of gears in my parts stash that I don’t want to use. You will have no problem putting the plate and gasket back on after cleaning it out.
Dennis why are you going to the Leopard? I know you will miss Benny!
Welcome aboard Ben! Glad to have another one in this fun class.
Chazer until you get on the track in a race, you got nothing to say. Your just a tail wagger. Take a look at the final standings and that will tell you where the Rotaxs are—-in front and all around the Bilands.
Get that pillow ready, riding in the dirt and not on the pavement won’t get you ahead of me—Cheezer.

Okay, you wanna be like THAT Rich, how about this – and I CAN comment on this as I paid VERY close attenion to these things, and you don’t have to be a racer, or a rocket scientist to figure it out.
Rotax Racers outnumbered all other TaG packages by somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:1. Based on that alone, the success rate of Rotax packages on any track could be expected to be higher than the others. Engine performance had little/nothing to do with it.
Add to that the fact that the most experienced TaG drivers were on Rotax engines. In many cases this wasn’t so much a matter of choice because some were running on last years engines and in this class it was pointless to pick up a new engine based on relative performance as the verdict was still out on that.
Anyway more Rotax karts piloted by the most experienced drivers equals a field where Rotax karts would dominate. It was a numbers and experience game, pure and simple.
Things are very likely to change this next year. There will be more Leopards on the track that in ’03. Some of these drivers will have a lot of experience. If AJ continues with his Sonik, that will certainly change things. If Courter returns with the Biland and gets the gremilins worked out, we’re all in trouble.
The Rotax guys have bragging rights for last year, but that’s history. ’04 is right around the corner, and I see a whole new ball game coming and that’s the one I’ll be playing in.
