ParticipantMy bad, I forgot all about the Sonik engine. And Chaz you’re right about it and AJ running in Steamboat. There’s a new guy at IMI (Patrick) who bought a GP with a sonik and it’s a slick little package although I don’t know much about the engine. Talk to AJ Noud about that engine… once thier shop is up and running.
Like i said, i like my two stroke with the zit on the back of the engine. But it’s the Driver’s ability that makes a good package great.

InactiveI’d love to go in on a money race like that. However, I’ll be just a bit laid up until after the first of the year.
If you can talk brad into it, we could see about using his scoring systems and I’ll run that. All we need is a flagger and a clear track!

Jay,
How far was I off pole? I thought it was .2 to .3 off, am I wrong? I’ve been known to be wrong in my lifetime.
Is anybody interested in racing for $ at IMI this winter? I was thinking pea pod drawings and an 18 lap event for tags. Everybody pitch in $50 and the top 2-3 (depending on #of racers) get paid something.
If we have 10 karts:
Total entry fees: $500
Winner: $350
2nd Place: $100
3rd Place: $50Open format – same weights as CSC – no spec fuel – and tire rule to be same as CSC – wouldn’t mind running B’s but I don’t see myself buying new tires just to take your money. 😉

InactiveOkay Chazer,
i run a rotax #51 and came in behind Dennis in the State. Yes because I attended all the races, but Dennis will admit I was quick at Steamboat. Came in 4th at IMI.
I like the rotax. It is sealed, so I can’t tinker with the motor like the other guys, but the package seems to lead the way.
Only downfall I see is local support. I get better support from Acceleration Kart Racing out of Las Vegas than I did from the last Rotax shop in Colorado.
After two yrs of racing the only change inside the motor was 1 piston ring. Of course I will be sending it in to Acceleration to take a look at it again to get ready for the 2004 season.
Chaz you are blowing smoke with the leopard. Until I see your Butt on the track and racing and you beating me you got little to say. Unfortuanately for mark his blew up at the last race. 😀
So much for the Lepard–right JB? 😈

InactiveHow much does a Leopard cost to run for 100 hours? I’m only talking about maintenence stuff, not counting blowing it up because you ran too lean jetting 😈
How about the Rotax?
Do you just buy the engine package, put gas in it, clean the filter and go?
How often do you have to change the piston?
Rod bearings?
Crank bearings?
Gaskets?
Seals?
Am I being a pain with all of these questions ? 😳
How many hours do you put on your kart in a season?
The Biland guys claim to get 300 hours out of the motor before the first valve adjustment, then ANOTHER 300 hours before the engine has to be torn down. This, to me, seems unrealistic for a racing motor…
Any Biland owners out there care to chime in? Is it worth the extra cost initially to have that kind of maintenence schedule?
I’m 99% sure I should get the Leopard, but that four-stroke sure is neat…November 7, 2003 at 2:59 am #45166Marc Elliott
ParticipantThe blow up was a piston bearing faliure, it was running 1/4 turn rich. Its a racing engine, it happens.

Sorry Marc, I didn’t know you blew yours up. Nothing personal…
I was actually speaking from experience: “hmm, this thing won’t rev, I wonder if I should put in a richer main jet” eeerp 😥November 7, 2003 at 3:35 am #45168Marc Elliott

ParticipantHello, I am enjoying all the race talk.
I am interested in all unbuildable/junk TAG motors and parts. Please contact me.
Chaz, you need to sponcer me in your kart. 🙂
I too would like to here how the Biland is doing in run time maintenence, while trying to win races.November 7, 2003 at 6:16 pm #45171Mike Jansen
ParticipantChaz, OUCH! Are you going to let Rich talk to you like that!? 😀 You better get on the track.
Mark, your focus should be Super Nats so after that i would love to have a $ race. Can I give government cheese instead of money for entry. 😉 Maybe we could do IMI and the next one would be at Action Karting (Bandemere) so we can get fair experience at both.
Rich, Dennis, fellow rotaxians (sounds kool doesn’t it) What is the cost to crate, ship and top end a rotax? I need to know so i can trade in my government cheese or food stamps for real money to support this habit. And how much time does it take from day shipped to date returned.

If mean am I gonna Freezeman talk smack…….it ain’t Rich. Freezeman = Rod Ebersole.
You better get on the track.
Well, not anytime soon. my Dr. would shoot me, and my wife would hang me with my own guts afterwards. Look for my triumphant (and better protected) return after 1/1/04.

It may sound cool, but it really isn’t. I happen to be the person who first used the term “Rotaxian” (no kidding). It’s not exactly a term of endearment, Mike ;-). It derived from an old celtic word that means “Pond Scum”.
God, I can hardly wait to get on the track with you guys now!
