Hello all,
I just wanted to introduce myself real quick. I’m definately a no0b when it comes to karting but it seems I may be picking myself up a TaG kart here soon. I’ll be around lurking trying to learn as much as possible about the scene, the series’, the karts and whatnot. I’m assuming this is the best place to post all of my no0b questions, after a search of course. So I’m sure you’ll all be seeing more of me around.
Just some quick background stuff, I’m a 31 year old married (one 2 1/2 year old little girl) DIA train mechanic. I’m addicted to motorsports, I’ve done a few trackdays and quite a few AutoXs with the SCCA in the past. Recently I got rid of my weekend racer street car and I think karting is going to fill the void very nicely for me. I live in Brighton so IMI is really close. Hopefully I’ll make it out to a few races, but probably won’t be entering any right off the bat. I think its best I mill around and talk to people at first, while I get the hang of the kart.
Anyways, this forum came highly recommended so I’m sure you guys have a wealth of knowledge. Any tips you have I’ll take.

Unlike any racing I have done in the past these guys genuinely want to help you within the sport. If there is anything I can do to help you with or answer any question please drop me a line.

Got a quick question concerning o-Max-o Jet-o (secret code)
I’ll send you a pm.February 16, 2008 at 4:21 am #60918Joe HawleyParticipantTony, I’ll be looking for it.

I am starting my 3rd season this spring. This board is full of smart people and everyone is willing to help out the new guy. Ask LOTS of questions before you buy your first kart. Make sure you have lots of room on your credit card. Set a budget then be prepared to blow right past it. Don’t be afraid to jump into a race once you have some laps under your belt, it’s the quickest way to learn how slow you are and race day in the pits is a great time to ask more questions.
You should come to the Daytona party on Sunday (see other thread about helping Bob out). There will be around 100 of us and it would be a great time to meet and greet and ask LOTS of questions.
PS, sign your name. I don’t want to refer to you as D Fresh when I meet you. Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome to karting. As kirk stated, ask lots of questions before you purchase your kart.If you are looking for a kart though I am selling an Arrow chassis with a Rotax Jr motor. You of course wouldnt be able to use the motor, but the Arrow is a great chassis.
send me a Pm if you’d like to talk.

Looks like Nick has a buyer. It’s a proven FAST package, D Fresh. All it needs is a a driver. Ricky might even offer a couple chassis setup tips.

Admitting you have an addiction is the first step. I’m proud of you man…
But, prepare to step that addiction up a few notches!

Welcome,
It’s a really good bunch that race here. Definitely mill about and talk to people before getting a machine and after.
Awesome to have a nice kart track close to home. That makes it sweet because the best thing you can do is get a kart and burn up fuel and tires, cause seat time is what it’s all about. And having a track near just makes it more convenient. Once you get within 2-3 seconds of fast time and can drive a consistent, repeatable race line other drivers can count on, go throw that thing in wheel to wheel competition. That’s where racecraft comes from.

‘The people who contribute to the forum are great to hang out with, you’ll learn a lot. Just get laps. Learning all of the other tips and stuff is just something to keep you occupied between laps.

Team HARDKartI’d love to make the party but unfortunately I work Sat. and Sun. night so I’ll be sleeping while you guys are partyin, I’ll have to watch the race on DVR. Credit card is paid off and ready to go and there’s another one sitting in reserve in the safe should I need it. 😀
I forgot that I don’t have an automatic signature here 😆

Of course nothing is set in stone, yet, but I am really liking Nick’s cart. We’ll see what happens this afternoon. I was originally wanting a shifter, as SCCA has an Autocross class specifically for them. I wanted to start out just AutoXing and doing lap days as I was weary of wheel to wheel racing, and a TaG really doesn’t seem to be competitive in SCCA F125 AutoX. After talking to some of the karters on Nick and I’s Subaru site I think the TaG would be better. A better package to become familiar with the sport, simpler for maintenance and driving, and besides its not like the driver would be very competitive for AutoX anyways.
Plus with Nick’s kart I have the ability to upgrade while using the same chassis.

Thanks, I’m sure you’re right about seat time. It seems to be the first key in any motorsports. IMI being so close is pretty much what really helped me to make my decision on getting a kart. I’ll be spending a lot of time out there I’m sure. I work 3rds with Thurs. and Fri. off and take care of my daughter in the mornings while my wife is working so Fri. afternoons and Saturdays I’m sure I’ll be out there a lot once I get a kart.
February 16, 2008 at 5:01 pm #60924Jeff FieldParticipantwelcome, doug. Glad you found the place alright. I think you’ll find a ton of help here when you need it. I’ll holla at you when testing gets more fired up so you can see the madness.
February 16, 2008 at 7:13 pm #60925Jon RomeneskoParticipantA TaG kart is definitely the way to go for a n00b. TaG is all about momentum, learn to be smooth, fast and preserve your momentum in TaG and the speed will carry over to a shifter should you decide to swap cogs somewhere down the line. Welcome!
February 16, 2008 at 9:23 pm #60914Uber WagonParticipantHey Doug,
Sorry someone else beat you to the kart. There are a couple other good packages on here that you should take a look at. In particular Jay seems to be selling a very similar package for the same price here:
I am sure some others can chime in as well…
February 16, 2008 at 11:03 pm #60912Rick SchmidtParticipantThere is Jays kart which is very potent package. There is also a very nice Rotax / FR 125 package available at the Bob Reed benefit. If you want to bid remote call my cell 303-886-4190

Thanks Rick.
I may have to get up to the benifit to check it out and ask some questions. I’d feel a little weird though as I’m so new to the community and don’t know the man. I know you guys are encouraging the n00bs to come but it’s just that I, myself, might feel weird about it.
Can you give a n00b some background on the kart? One of the things I really liked about Nick’s was that the chassis could be run w/ a shifter setup should I ever decide to move up. Is this possible with the benefit kart? I looked at the thread and saw the minimum bid would be 3k which seems pretty low, are you able to disclose the “buy it now” price it will be listed at, or will that only be disclosed at the benefit?
Also, I got a PM from CGordon about his ’07 Shockwave TaG kart. Do you know anything about his setup? Is this chassis able to run a shifter setup as well?
I know that if I got a TaG chassis that couldn’t support a shifter setup it shouldn’t be too hard to sell and then buy a new chassis if I ever wanted to move up. But it just seems to be a smarter thing to get a chassis that would support either, in case I do ever want to step up a bit.
BTW thanks for all your help.
