InactiveEveryone smoked my ass at Action Karting. If I had another shot at the track, I think it would be different. In the first race there I broke a motor and had to switch to a backup…my max rpm’s for that day was just over 10,000 on both motors. I didn’t have the track time to get my chassis setup. The second race I broke a motor mount on the first lap of the race and my chain fell off 4 times. Here’s a note to the wise and to the listening….run an 11 tooth front driver at Bandimere, Steamboat and the Springs. I know a ratio is a ratio, but because bandi is (was) so rough I was running an 85 tooth rear gear and ended up bending the rear gear and I personally believe that the 11 tooth front driver gives a little more torque on the bottom end. I would also recommend running a 13 tooth front driver a Grand Junction and IMI just to see what kind of top end you could get.

InactiveI agree that newbies should have some sort of markings so others are aware but I don’t think that they should be made to start at the back because they are new.
Last year was my first year and like Dennis had not raced anything prior, had a good season. I think Dennis has alot of good points but one thing he did not mention is that having the right mentality is a big part of being succesful. It may sound a bit cocky but it helped me alot to go into races thinking and believing that I was gonna be the fastest guy out there and that I was going to win the race no matter what. If you go into a race thinking you are gonna be slow or there is so and so driver that is always faster and can’t be beaten then you are going to be destined for second place.January 31, 2004 at 3:32 am #45012Anonymous
InactiveDane,
I couldn’t agree with you more! If you don’t believe in yourself and feel that you are competitve, you won’t be. The mental approach is often overlooked and I’m glad that you pointed that out. Good luck this year.January 31, 2004 at 3:40 am #45013Preston Newberry

Participanti have read in books, that mental preperation is 25 percent of the drivers role, preperation, attitude, planning, it adds up in a vastly mental sport

InactiveDennis,
I’m looking forward to this coming seaon, good ot see that you’ve hooked up with Eric and Nick, we pitted next to both of them in TX at rotax nats and are both great guys. Oh yeah, and Nick’s mechanic John is a riot. Hopefully you can find something to run down there. Good luck.January 31, 2004 at 3:13 pm #45016Anonymous
InactivePreston,
Sorry about that, I don’t know what I was thinking. The academy would like to thank Preston Newberry for his fine contributions as a chief mechanic and awesome setup man.

ParticipantWell we left this morning from Grand Junction to get over to the meeting tonight. After battling a snow storm and really bad roads we got stopped in Glenwood canyon because of a serious wreck. The officer said it would be closed most the day so I guess we won’t make it. I talked to JB and let him know that we are in favor of a drop. Hope it all goes well and we will see all of you at the races. Stacey Cook, Grand Junction Motor Speedway 🙁
