ParticipantMost of you racers are making valid points , the need for a multi faceted tech team is definately needed , as well as the specific tool and instruments to do the job !
Let’s make a list of the qualified candidates
Hmmm no one comes to mind , it must be some one who knows 2-stroke moto motors , 2-stroke clutch kart motors , 4-stroke (including Briggs & Biland) motors , c’mon , help me with this .
The race director , if we decide to have just one , will most likely be an (APPOINTED) rather than an elected person !

ParticipantWith the drivers’ meeting coming up on Saturday at IMI, I thought I would bring these suggestions to the front for review!

InactiveUnfortuantely, I will not be able to attend. I will be in WARM Naples, Florida, basking on the beach!
My thoughts are:
Rotax/Tag Class:
If we have>40 Tag karts total, I would go with splitting them up into: Juniors <18,
Internationals >18 @ 365 lb
Masters (Viagra class), >40 @ 385 lbsAs to tires: open rule
One thing I definitely WANT IS A NEWBIE RULE: THEY HAVE TO START AT THE TAIL END OF THEIR GROUP AND HAVE A YELLOW REAR NUMBER PLATE OR YELLOW “X” ON THE BACK OF THERE HELMUT!
A Newbie is someone in their 1st year of kart racing or 1st year in that class. They must start at the tail end of the grid for their 1st three race DAYS or at the discretion of Head Flagger-Bobby.
We kinda had some rule like this but it was never enforced. It needs to be enforced from the registration slip through to grid time-no exceptions.
We just had too many aggressive and inexperienced drivers in the pack. It cost drivers $$$, stress and unneeded time.
Yes to having an ambulance again! Obviously we need it.
Have a great meeting guys.

Participant<under 18 juniors, explain your reasoning please
even RMC is getting away from that and putting it to 16> is SRJanuary 28, 2004 at 10:04 pm #45000Mike Jansen
ParticipantGentlemen (and I use that term loosely)
I want to race against the total class (TAG SR)
I loved the layout last year pertaining to age, weight etc.
I cannot get down to 385 or anything less than that so i would like to see the same weights as last year (sorry Rich 😥 ). My reasoning is for the competition.
I do agree with Rich (I’ll bring it up at the meeting) as for some sort of mark to let everyone know who the “rookies” are. They do it at Indy, why not with CSC (the finest competition anywhere). Last year I wouldn’t have had a problem being singled out as a rookie. Let people prove themselves first then they can lose the blue “x” over thier number plate or something like that.Mike Jansen
Rotax (zit with power) 27d 😉January 29, 2004 at 1:25 am #45001Anonymous
InactiveMarc,
some of the Juniors <16 or <18 at the nationals in Denton were turning faster times than the masters!
I don’t think they should be in a Masters/Senior class, they are not.
Juniors <18 yrs
International >18<40or
Juniors + Internationals >16<40 yrs.
then:
Seniors/masters/Viagra >40Yes, about the 385 lb it is hard for the large guys but also tough on us old guys who are low in wt. I have to put on 40 lbs to make a 400 lb wt. My opinion on this is self-centered. What ever you guys decide that is fair to everybody is good enough for me.
The Newbie thing has to be addressed and enforced. Colorado racing is getting very competitive and we should consider the safety fo having new guys in the middle of the pack with seasoned agressive guys—that is just a disaster waiting to happen.

ParticipantYes but, almost every single class in the united states that is signified as “senior” are 16 plus classes, now rotax is going 16 and up. My plan is to race TaG SR next year, and i am going to regardless of what the age limit is.

InactiveI’m for splitting the field into senior and masters classes if the numbers of entrants allow. I’m with Rich loading up the kart with 35+ lbs. is a big pain, but as Doug would say all the weight gives you more tuning options. 😉

InactiveMarc:
I hope you don’t have that attitude about all the rules. If we all did what we wanted regardless of the rules we wouldn’t have a very good series would we?January 29, 2004 at 4:45 pm #45005Rodney Ebersole
ParticipantWhat kind of markings does a seasoned, too aggressive of a racer get on there number plate? I think a bulls eye would be good and make them run it for three races? 16 and up is adult in karting and I hope it stays that way as father and son teams are the back bone to karting, plus it’s a blast to try and beat em when you get old.
In the SCS series we do qualify to receive our starting postion. If I or anyone esle starts in the TAG class as a “New Guy” I would not mind a sticker or bulls-eye on my kart. But if I have done my homework to be on pole for the first race, I sure wouldn’t want to give up that spot with out some cash in my hand. Bobby has the black flag and it’s power to keep us racers in line.
“If I can’t wreck it I don’t want to race it.” 🙂January 29, 2004 at 10:12 pm #45006Anonymous
InactiveWelcome from the warm state of South Carolina. I would like to chime in on your little “newbie” posts regarding starting in the rear. RIDICULOUS! Last year was my first year in karting and no offense to those of you that are ‘experienced’, but the #1 plate is hanging on MY wall! If you are fast and good then let them race where they qualify. I do feel that there should be markings, i.e., different color numbers or different color hard plate – that only makes sense. Have the rolled black flag available and use it when necessary – it should have been used more in ’03. Also a mandatory drivers meeting, with attendance taken, for all drivers. I saw too many drivers working on their karts and ignoring the PA system when these meetings were being held. Have fun this year and I hope that the fields reach 100 in Tag.

InactiveDennis, you have always been the exception to the Newbie rule. First year and that fast, were you tinkering with the motor, what the heck was your secret for being so good. did you race something else?
You know we had a lot of banging going on. If your good from the back then the head flagger will recognize it and give you special dispensation. You were always special.
Tell me your secrets!
good to hear from you.

InactiveRich,
My secrets were to ask alot of questions and get a lot of good advice from some very great racers i.e,. AJ and Bill Noud, Sam Walls, having Rusty Newberry work on my karts for setup. Reading that damn rotax manual looking for anything that would give me speed. I never raced anything prior to last year, but I sure have accumulated alot of speeding tickets over the years. I think I just got lucky and caught some breaks. Found a kart that worked for me and had alot of motiviation to win in my first year (thanks Brad Linkus) 😛 I enjoy proving people wrong. There was a lot of incidental contact last year, but there’s not much that can be done about that other than have a great flag man and corner workers watching the action looking for bumping.
I am so jonesin’ for a little race action. I got the bug in Colorado and I’m still trying to figure out what I can race out here. I talked to Eric Vaughn last week and he now lives in Florida and is hooked up with Nick Weil from Speedquestkarting.com and is racing rotax in Florida. I am hoping to arrange for atleast one of my karts to be shipped to Nick so I can race with them.
Enjoy ’04, you never know what you have until you no longer have it.

ParticipantDennis,
You know what I liked most about racing you last season? Was When i beat you both races at Action Karting last year cuz other than that you SMOKED my a**! 8)
I am going to miss seeing you race day and the days we went out and practiced.By the way, did you ever CLEAN your kart last year?? 😈 Even my Dad noticed. But like I told him, “he’s number 1 so he must be doing something right, other than that illegal fuel!” 😀 😀

InactiveEveryone smoked my ass at Action Karting. If I had another shot at the track, I think it would be different. In the first race there I broke a motor and had to switch to a backup…my max rpm’s for that day was just over 10,000 on both motors. I didn’t have the track time to get my chassis setup. The second race I broke a motor mount on the first lap of the race and my chain fell off 4 times. Here’s a note to the wise and to the listening….run an 11 tooth front driver at Bandimere, Steamboat and the Springs. I know a ratio is a ratio, but because bandi is (was) so rough I was running an 85 tooth rear gear and ended up bending the rear gear and I personally believe that the 11 tooth front driver gives a little more torque on the bottom end. I would also recommend running a 13 tooth front driver a Grand Junction and IMI just to see what kind of top end you could get.
