ParticipantOK Gents/Racers here’s a basis class proposal for a state run series. 10 classes…..
– Micro Max
– Mini Max
– TAG/Rotax Jr.
– TAG/Rotax Sr.
– TAG/Rotax Master
– DD2
– DD2 Master
– Stock Moto Jr (S5)
– Stock Moto Sr (S1-3)
– Stock Moto Master (S4)We could run same weights/age, rules as in SKUSA/RMAX. That way those who run a National program would not need to change set-ups to run the state races. Anyone not fitting in the classes would need to bring a minimum number (TBD) to meet a local option, for example 4 strokes.
Blast away,
Eddy

ParticipantEddy, if you add Tag Cadet that is Skusa + Rotax.

ParticipantOK, Greg
We could do that (add TAG Cadet). In fact if you believe we will have the numbers, I’ll consider being a class sponsor. I’m for what ever works.
Let’s keep the discussion going. Again, I suggest focusing on keeping the cost down for the racers on series membership and race fees. If everyone is for the class structure proposal, I’m willing to take the lead and see if we can make this happen. Hope to talk with your Dad and Brad sometime before the end of the month to see what it took to run the CSC. Believe a quality, safe, affordable real state championship series run by Colorado Karting people is the end game.
If I’m off target and anyone thinks I’m wasting my time, Please let me know. Just something I’m passionate about seeing this happen and simply a way to give something back. It’s not about me, I could run SBR/ SKUSA and Colorado Kart Racing for Heroes.
Thanks for the suggestion Greg.
Have a Great Weekend,
Eddy

Participant:usa: I got a call on Friday. Hey 50 degrees on Sunday lets go to IMI and run some laps. OK I’ll charge the battery and if it starts I am there. Yea, it started and it was great. Saw many regular karters and met many new ones. I know several others were at Bandimere. What a great state snow capped mountains and dry tracks.. I hope that Junction and the Spring tracks got in some laps. Let’s think what can happen with a state series. Holy Cow as Harry would say.

ParticipantUpdate:
SKUSA officials are working very hard on trying to make this happen. There are many logistic issues that need to be worked out and are being worked on by them. When they are or if they can get it done they will make a public announcement, ASAP.
Please be patient. 😀
It took three years to get to this point. If it only takes a couple more weeks or so to get something great done, it will be well worth the wait.
I appreciate all of your ideas and concerns, but I really don’t think we need to have a WKA series of any kind around here. You can go to their series and race if you wish, it’s cheap and you get very few laps. I went to my first one in Daytona and to be completely honest with you, it should be my last. I don’t agree with 8 lap heats and 12 lap mains and not to mention a 3 lap qualify (total joke). That’s not racing in my opinion and I will not bring sponsorship, construction help, or financial help to a racing series of that kind. Personally I’m just not interested in that. I’m sorry if that seems harsh, but I’m just being honest. Please don’t be offended. I prefer a structure like SKUSA and Rotax run and that’s all I personally intend to support at this time. They’re really the big boys in the country and you get your moneys worth as far as I’m concerned, from track time to some of the best drivers in the world not just in the USA.
I could appreciate that a lot of drivers like to do this for fun and have a great time doing it with their buddies on weekends (as do I). But, why not run with some of the best drivers in the country and compare your skills against them? Have something to work towards and set goals. Not to mention the amount of race craft, tuning, tire management, proper driving lines, etc that you could learn by either following or just asking for some help. It seems like a great place to invest my time and money if I were a newbie or just a driver who would love to learn and have fun.
SKUSA and Rotax is where karting is going and is already established in this country, in my opinion. So as far as I’m concerned, that’s where my efforts are going to be directed. Nothing personal.
Unfortunately, not everyone will be happy with whatever the class structure may be, that’s impossible to do. But what is possible is getting lots of laps and great racing for your money. NOT TO MENTION THE MOST IMPORTANT IS RACING IN SAFE ENVIRONMENT! There can only be so many classes with so much time in a day.
I truly hope to see the Colorado drivers step up and help make this happen, even if it means running a new motor package.
Here’s to a great 2013 in motor sports, cheers mate… :win

ParticipantHello Scott
I’m not in favor of a WKA series or anything like that, hope that wasn’t the implication. Understand that Rotax and SKUSA is the future, atleast west of the Mississippi. Thank you for your honesty and truely hope you get what you want in a front range or state race series.
Respectfully,
Eddy

ParticipantIt is good to hear there are things happening behind the scenes. I am cautiously optimistic.
I believe we need the national leadership of SKUSA and/or ROTAX to participate in putting this together. I would even go a step further and let them collectively manage and run the thing.
As such it would probably look like this, following the current National Organization(s) Rules:
SKUSA-
Tag Cadet
Tag Junior
Tag Senior
Tag Master
S1
S2
S3
S4
S5Rotax-
Micro
Mini
Junior
Senior
Master
DD2Maximum seat time. 2 practice sessions, qualifying, 2 heats and the main.
You would have to combine a few of the Rotax classes with the SKUSA Tag classes in order to fit this in one day. They would be scored separately.
SKUSA could combine S1 and S2. I am not a fan of combining S4 and S5. I saw an unmentioned S5 put the moves on a couple of S4 drivers last year with “not so great” results for the S4 drivers. I have to admit it was fun to watch from the fence.
I realize this formula is not all inclusive but it is a start and will work. Personally I feel anything outside of the defined classes stated above should stay at the club level. If Colorado had a history of WKA or IKF or whatever, I would feel differently.
The majority of racers in this state have the gear to run what is outlined above right now.
It would be great to have this set up and running at a couple of the local tracks this next season and hope it works out for everyone. Our plans will remain the same. If and when it is figured out and defined, we will re-evaluate.

Participant:usa: I think that the classes look great. I wonder does this allow the CJKC motors/ and what will be the estimated cost per race. The questions I have received from at least 20 karters who are siting on the sidelines at the present time.

ParticipantAs mentioned above some classes may need to be combined in order to fit them all in one day. My son will be racing in the Cadet classes and we are hoping to race both the Mini Max and Tag Cadet class. Last year some of us raced our Rotax karts at a Racing for Heroes event and a IMI club race where the CJKC was present. We included all the kids in one field and they had a lot of fun put on great races with no incidents. I know that the Micro Max, Tag Cadet, and CJKC JR1 Novice classes are simular in lap times and can be combined. I know that the Mini Max and CJKC JR1 Expert class are simular in there lap times and can also be combined. Some of the Rotax/Tag classes probably could be combined also according to there groups. I think the main thing we need to focus on is allowing this process to work out be oraganized by a national sanctioning body and for all of us to put past differences behind us and SUPPORT Colorado kart racing again.

ParticipantI honestly don’t have anything constructive to add. 😆 The classes look good and it sounds like there is some momentum building! Interested on hearing dates and costs now…

ParticipantGlad to hear you all see the light now. Makes me wonder where we would be today, if only the shades were off three years ago.
Keep up the good work as this is how the “golden years” were born.

ParticipantLooks like the way things are going most of Southern Colorado will be sitting out the state series with the proposed class structure and ROTAX/SKUSA running it. Here we go again. Only the guys with big money will end up running this, what’s different then the way thing are right now. Good luck gents, you managed to leave out a lot of folks with the latest proposal. Why are we looking to have outside folks run a state sereis?

ParticipantI agree with Roger. Brad’s outline and comments are spot on. Karting is not Nascar!

ParticipantEddie, no offense to you or Roger, but Four stroke shifters aren’t exactly Cheap!! And the 4 stroke Tags just don’t have the numbers and never have, nor are they Cheap!
Except for the 4 strokes if you run a Rotax, CR125 or a Tag you would be included! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that covers the vast majority of engine packages that run in the west, you will never be able to create a series that covers every engine package, ever!
