Better weight class? What do you consider a better weight class? Please cast your vote at the above links. 🙂

I strapped on 20 pounds last year to move up to the heavy class and the kart felt very sluggish. Obviously when the horsepower is low the extra pounds make a huge difference in power to weight ratios. I ended up taking the weight back off and stayed with the medium class.

    All

Cole makes the point. We in the CSC do not want to leave those in the middle weight category out, so we will offer a middle or medium 206 class. We are being told what were are doing will be consistent with the GJMS club class structure as well, i.e. 16+ years old, Light, Medium and Heavy or Masters CIK full size chassis on MG Reds.

As we ramp up our online CSC Series membership (only $35.00 for the year) and race registration sign-ups, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to leave me a PM here on the Colorado Karter and leave me your phone number so we can talk directly as well. Thank you all for your patience, it’s going to be a great year for Colorado Karting.

    Respectfully,

Cole makes a point yes, I agree but I also make a point that we would see better racing if we have two instead of three classes. The voting isn’t over. Granted, only 11 people have voted so far even though there have been more than that view this post. 😉 I would like to see at least 30 votes before we call this solved. I mean we are in a voting year how about we put this up for vote. If majority votes for 3 class I will shut up. I just feel the majority doesn’t want 3 classes as 2 classes allow for more racing and tougher competition and less friction between classes.

This kart is sluggish anyway you race it. lol Having the MG tires will allow it to be a little less sluggish. I raced in the heavy my first year and then I raced in the Medium the next year. Having two classes doesn’t leave anyone out it allows everyone to be on an even playing field. How is GJMS class structure changing when I went last Saturday to sign up and got paperwork that states two classes. Is something changing there too? This is the first I heard about that.

Just a little confused in the above as it still sounds like I am being ignored. 😉 Cole brings up a valid point and you comment on it but I make valid points and just get ignored or told we already voted on it and decided. Doesn’t seem fair to me if you ask me.

How about we wait until we have at least 30 votes in the polls before we call it finished. 😉

I like the 3 weight classes. I really like the new weight classes as it takes the large gap out from 300-360 and gives people a better chance to come in near weight without bolting on 40 plus pounds of lead.

The original was 300/360/385. They are talking about changing it to 325/365/395 last I heard. You would still need to add 40 pounds if you were to go between 325 and 360. I agree that you make it easy to get into weight without adding weight. I totally understand that point of view. My point of view is we are here to race other people. If I wanted to run fast laps I would just do that by myself. I am here to race. I want to race with everyone I can.

3 classes separates the field in that you can’t race them. Let’s say I start racing with Adam which is a light and I am a medium. We are both fast and we are both up front. Now, let’s say Cole comes up in the light class and wants to race against Adam for the top spot. But I am there too. We go around a couple of laps and Cole starts to pass me. Well, I don’t see that he is a light to let him pass so that he can race with Adam so I battle to keep my position. Well, this causes Cole to slow down as he is battling me and Adam starts to pull away. Then the race ends and Cole is in 2nd place in his class when he could have won it but I caused him to not win due to thinking he was a medium trying to pass me.

The above happened but with other people involved. My whole point is to get everyone in a class to allow the racing to be fun and competitive. With my solution Cole, Adam and I would all be in the same class and would be having a 3 way battle for the lead. Sounds a lot more fun than having 3 different classes racing each other for no point. If I know I am racing a light I will just stick behind them and use their draft. I don’t want to mess up their race like I almost did in the night race with Fowler at the top of the hill coming out of the back straight. I was racing him as there were no other mediums to race at that point in the race. We had a lot of fun but if that little mistake would have taken him out he would have been REALLY upset with me. People make mistakes and not a lot can change that but if we can mitigate the type of issues by splitting the field by have 2 classes instead of 3 I would like to see that happen.

I am just trying to get it so that we all can have great battles and improve. Racing with others shows you that limit you are trying to break and helps you overcome it.

Btw, I will add that you don’t really see lights vs heavys. Mainly lights vs mediums and mediums vs heavys. Take out the medium and adjust the weights to like 330 and 385 and I bet you will see some great racing within the classes instead of outside the classes. Lights don’t run with the heavys but they do run with the mediums.

Seems like the links are getting hidden. Would really like to see 30 people vote before we call it finalized (current count as of today at 11:30am = 18).

Which weight class structure would you like for lo206:

Here is the class Structure for the Go Pro Motorplex that seems to have MASSIVE turnouts. I like how they split it up. Instead of weight “As the splitting factor” they use Age and then set a specific weight. As you can see based on this PDF of the class structure for the 2016 season.

    http://www.gopromotorplex.com/files/6614/5494/8735/2016_GoPro_Motorplex_Karting_Challenge_Rules_and_Class_Structure.pdf

Here is a great video that shows their turnouts. – http://www.gopromotorplex.com/

Also on this site you can see a lot of other things they run. All of them have one thing in common 1 weight class for adult LO206 class. They have Jr. But the Senior (16+) is one weight class and it is 360. I am asking for 2 lol They are getting MASSIVE croweds with just 1 class. 😉

Here is another video that shows that 1 class will allow great racing! But I am here asking for two. 3 is just too much.

If there were only 2 weights, probably 335 and 385 would work best? No matter what you do, some will be too heavy for one or have to bolt on a ton of lead for the other. If there are not enough for one class (under 5 karts), will those that show up at that weight have to enter in another weight class either up or down in weight?

GoPro is in the heart of WKA and NASCAR racing. A lot of racers to pull from for large kart counts. I bet half the people there are involved in auto racing somehow. It is where most NASCAR drivers call home. Wish we could have that much interest in racing here. When I was racing Legends cars in Charlotte, I could race 2-3 days a week during the summer. Dirt ovals, paved ovals, road courses. Think there were 8 different tracks within 2 hours of me. Now 1 track that is 2 hours away lol. Lot less dog eat dog mentality here though. Think everyone here understands that they will not be the next Joey Legano. Makes for funner, less stressful race weekends. Still pretty competitive though.

Why can’t Denver Colorado or Colorado in general be a HUGH kart area. I mean we have a lot of good tracks. We just need to come together as a community and here I am trying to join and BRING TOGETHER racing and I get a lot of push back. Have we maybe thought this could be part of the problem? Other tracks that I show examples of how they do things have great turnouts. Seems like they are doing something correct. What is it? What are we doing differently and what can we change to improve. Weights seems like an easy thing to fix. Look at Rotax. I am asking for just the same solution as Rotax that is been around for a WHILE and has a BIG following. Why can’t we do what they are doing? It seems to be working for them…

There are many different ways to setup the weights. Maybe a 350 and 395 or 340 and 385 or what ever combo you can think that will allow everyone to easily add weight if they are in between. I don’t think you will have to add much if we add an age limit like these other clubs run. 360 seems like the Sr level and 335 or 325 seems like under 16. That seems fair to me. Now for the heavy’s I am suggesting 395. But these other clubs don’t do two Sr level classes. They only do one (Usually 360).

They have big turn outs as its fun to race and they all are as close to the same weight class as they can. If you watch the below video you see a HUGE field! We can have the same thing if we get everyone excited about racing in the LO206 class by racing in the same class and showing races like this. I mean this video here makes me want to go to Canada to race because of how HUGH their packs are. THIS IS TRUE LO206 racing. – https://youtu.be/1W5UWVuIv94

I too, have been trying to drum up interest in LO206. I even posted an ad with info on C/L. Got one guy into it by selling him my old kart for a great price. Talk about no interest, we only had 5 total karts at GJMS with me and my son included. I hope this series will help get more into it. Anything that will bring numbers up would be great!

I had planned on traveling this summer to race with you guys, but the switch to mg reds put a stop to that idea… 🙁

At The Track we had on average 15 people. Split between 3 different classes. Most of the ages were above 16 (except for like 3 or so.). Why have 3 different classes for 15 people? Just doesn’t sound like a lot of close racing. I raced with a lot of lights and mediums but never got to race with the heavys. If we had two or even one weight class the racing would be a lot more close. Granted some would need to add weight. (Muscle weighs more than fat ;)) If you are having problems lifting it I offer my services. lol I mean I need to work out more in order to be mentally alert during a long race.

Cole, why has the MG reds put a stop to that idea? I am still racing in the CJKC that IIRC is running Duros. But why has the MG reds cause you to not want to race? Have you ever raced on them before? They are not that much more than Duros tbh. lol
