ParticipantRich has finished his journey and so there will only be a few more pages of this journal.
Brett, Colin and I spent Sunday with Rich. He was comfortable, but had a high fever. The staff at Applewood was wonderful. They watched over us all day. Many friends stopped in to say good bye and my brother and his wife came as well.
When Rich left us it was peacfully and he looked at rest. His roommate Mark was in the room which seemd appropriate. We had our chance to let him go and tell him what was on our hearts.
The husband and dad we loved and lived with so long really started this journey 10 months ago, he fought and we fought alongside him, but there was to be no recovery from his injuries. So the battle was long, but it was time for him to rest after these many months.
We want to thank each and everyone of you who have followed along in this journal. It has been such a source of strength for our family to know that you have shared the tears and the laughter, the good days and the bad and have now finished the course with us and with Rich. Please know that we have felt your prayers and your caring more than you can ever know. God bless each and evey one of you!!
We are currently working on finalizing funeral plans, so will post when all is set
Gayle, Brett and Colin
Rest in peace my friend

ParticipantWhat can I say other than to echo everybody elses thoughts. Rich was a good man who definately kept everybody here on their toes. Unfortunately I was not able to meet him in person until that horrible day. Our thoughts are with you and your family Gayle.

ParticipantHello Gayle and Family:
Sandy and I both are truly saddened by the news of Rich’s passing. In retrospect, I think we all knew this could happen but that never eases the shock of such a great tragedy.
You have been such an inspiration for so many people, likely numbering in the thousands. Your tremendous love, dignity, character, and endless grace has been a spiritual treasure for so many of us on the fringes of your story. I think I speak for many in saying nobody could have possibly done more than you did for Rich, and we hope you live forever in peace and solace from your efforts.
Godspeed Mr. Rich and Mrs. Gayle Vito, and to your family, friends, fellow racers, and countless others who will never forget your courage. Blessings to you all.

ParticipantGaye and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are deeply saddened. We will always cherish our memories of Rich. He was such an inspiration and helped us much during our early years of kart racing. I know he will live on in your own memories and in the impact he has had in your lives. I hope that brings you some measure of comfort in this most difficult time. God bless you and your family.
God Speed & RIP RV51
