    Josh,
Your master calendar did not show any of the CRE/WKA events. I know some of you feel they don’t matter, however, all of the 80’s that raced there last year also attempted to run the CSC series.
CRE is also the only way to get regional points to qualify for the STARS finals which we race.
Just another reason to drop one this year.

Another big conflict with CRE is the Rotax Max Challenge; 3 of the 6 dates conflict with CSC events (May 16, June 13, Sept. 12). Not sure what can be done about that, but it will certainly create some conflicts for those who wanted to run both RMC and CSC/TAG. 😥

As far as the schedule goes, its was impossible not to have some conflicts. There are just so many sundays in a year. The first restrictions were from the track owners themselves. All three tracks have dates which they can not have races. GJ and IMI offer motorcross events and they couldn’t/didn’t want to have CSC events on the same weeeknds. Bandimere is closed certain weeeknds over the summer like during the NHRA Mile High Nationals. We had a PMT in GJ. Neither of the local tracks want to have an event on the major holiday weekends during the summer, they are big rental weekends for them. And whether we want to admit it or not, it is the rentals that keep them in operation so that we have a place to race. Take all the weekends that we can’t have races, it doesn’t leave many dates.

Next we looked at the SKUSA PMT schedule. As we have many local racers who do them, we needed to work around those dates. By the time we got done looking at the exclusions, (don’t forget the USGP) there weren’t many weekends left.

I was fortunate to watch the track owners in action developing the schedule. The spririt of cooporation was beyond belief. More than once I heard, ” That date would work better for you? OK, I’ll move mine, its no big deal.” We should thank every one of them, Brad, JB and Stacey for the hard work they are doing. They can’t work around every date in the country or in the state, but they did the best they could given the situation.

I see the press release at KS magazine

here it is for you all

    Colorado Sprint Championship Info/Schedule

January 20, 2004 (Englewood, CO) – The Colorado Sprint Championship (CSC) presented by Shockwave Karting recently announced its schedule for 2004. Like last year, the series will feature 7 races, two at each of the major tracks in Colorado and a grand finale at Steamboat Springs on a temporary circuit. The dates are:

April 4 – Action Karting at Bandimere
May 16 – Grand Junction Motor Speedway
    June 13 – IMI
July 4 – Grand Junction Motor Speedway
August 8 – Action Karting at Bandimere
    August 29 – IMI
    September 11/12 – Steamboat Springs

The four venues offer a very different challenge for racers. The Bandimere track is a storied facility and home to the NHRA Mile High Nationals. It is more of a traditional track, narrow and very technical. That is not to say the owners have not been making improvements. Racers will find several improvements this year. Sections of the track will be either resurfaced or ground to improve the racing surface. A new kart shop has been built and the storage containers have been moved. The end result is a greatly improved track and paddock area.

Grand Junction Motor Speedway has been given a date on the SKUSA Pro Tour for May 21/23. The CSC is holding an event the weekend before to give those national teams a chance to sample the track under race conditions. Located adjacent to I-70, the track is only a short 5 minute drive from the many fine hotels and motels of Grand Junction. New this year is a kart shop/scoring tower complete with tech rooms and meeting rooms. The pit area has been expanded and improved.

IMI is located just north of Denver in Dacono, this track continues a rich tradition of great racing. As this track was one of the very first to be designed for shifter karts, it is long and wide to accommodate the speed of shifters. At just under 1 mile long, it continues to draw very large crowds for its club program and the CSC races held there should be the biggest events of the season. It continues to set the standard for karting in Colorado.

The finale at Steamboat Springs should be another magical event. In its third year, the Steamboat Springs GP has enjoyed phenomenal growth and this year will be the best version yet. With more sponsors and increased organization and support from the community, this event is quickly becoming the premier event of the season in the Rocky Mountain west. A temporary circuit in the lower parking lot of the ski resort, this event is located base of one of the finest ski resorts in the country and in the heart of Ski Town USA.

The CSC will feature 12 classes, from 125 Pro shifters to kid karts. The two adult 4 cycle classes will be combined into one class and there will be an S2 class added for 125 shifters. There will also be some minor adjustments to weight packages to help the competitiveness of some engine packages. We will be following SKUSA rules for 125 shifters and TaG karts and WKA rules for clutch karts. We will make some local modifications to the rules to account for the increased altitude.

    The classes are:

    Pro 125 Shifter
    S2, 125 Shifter
    Novice 125 Shifter
    Senior/Heavy 125 Shifter
    Junior 80 Shifter
    60 Novice Shifter
    Senior 4 cycle
    Junior II
    Junior I
    Kid karts
    TaG Senior
    TaG Junior

There have been many arguments put forth concerning drop or not to drop. I did a little look back to see what would have happened if we had a drop last year.

Of the 51 top 5 positions, a drop would have changed 7 spots.

In Pro 125, Jeff Welch would have been 2nd and Kyle Ray would have been 3rd.

In TaG Junior, we would have had a new champion, Corey Seip would be the winner and Marc Elliot would be 2nd.

In Junior 1, Aaron Thompson would have moved up from 5th to 4th and Cole MacEwen would have moved down to 5th.

The biggest changes would have been in Kid Karts. Alec Thompson would have moved from 3rd to 1st. Casey Flemming from 1st to 2nd, Kalee Flemming from 2nd to 4th and Conner New from 4th to 3rd.

In all other classes and postions, there would be no change with the addition of drops.

All of these changes except one are the result of missed races. Only in TaG junior race did both drivers attend all the races. All other changes were the result of missed races. In other words, racers who did not support the entire series moved ahead of racers who did if we had allowed drops. In all missed race cases, a racer who did not do the entire series moved ahead of a racer who did all the events.

My conclusion, the addition of drops mostly benifits those racers who do not support the entire series, not the racer who has a bad day.

Joe, We to are having Rotax Max Regional Qualifiers over here in Grand Junction. Would love to have some of you run the series and we are working on some really great ideas for the winners of the series. Sounds like it is going to be a great year for Colorado karting.

Good points Doug, But how can you figure the number of entries that didn’t even start the series before or after the first race is over because they had little hopes in getting to all the races?
Making it easy to support the SCS for a non-supporter is more important to me than helping us who are allready hooked on the seriers.

Congrats to JB, Brad, Stacy and Doug on the schedule. Whatever you do there will be conflicts 😀

Racers will decide what series are important for them and some tracks, of the 4 in Colorado, will lose out! 🙁

guys, 3 yrs ago we didn’t have this problem. Now Colorado may very well be the fastest growing area for karting in the Country! I see a slow transformation of lets just go racing and have some fun to a little more I want a podium finish. I am still with let’s have fun, friends and go racing.

Back to the “Big Four” guys above: Thanks for doing what you do and looking forward to a great year.

any chance of setting up a street circuit race in Estes Park/denver/Grand Junction? Just a Though-I think that would be the frosting on the cake.

    Thanks Guys!

Rich, The problems we have in Colorado are ones that everyone in the country would like to have. As far as a street race we have been working on a possible street race in downtown Grand Junction or Snowmass. We have a few friends on the City Council (yes friends LOL our fight is with the county) and they are interested in trying to do something like that, Maybe in 2005.

There is just no way to gage if there are any who blew off the entire series because they missed the first one. I can guess, but so can you. And I think we both would be right. 😆 There were also many who did join after the first race who didn’t do the first one.

For us, there is only one reason to do the CSC races, because they are big and fun. Without a doubt, they were the biggest races in the state and had the best competition. Even if they didn’t do any championship at all, we would still do them for that reason. As Rich pointed out, we race for the fun of racing. If we get a nice trophy and a couple of bucks, well that just makes it that much better.

    Rich

I am a huge fan of temp races. But they are very expensive to put on and consume tons of time. Without a sponsor to pick up the tab, or a tremendous amount of donated services, they just don’t work. Any one who wants to do one, has my support and some of my time promoting it but I can’t do much more than that.

    Doug,

I blew-up Scott Richards motor at GJ the first CSC race of the year and finished dead last in the points, 14th Ithink. My brother was collected in the pile-up, created by me dramaticly slowing, sending him to next to last. That first day set me so far back from the points that it only made sense to compete on a “one off basis” after that. If I had had the knowldge that my bad day would have been a wash and that I was still in the hunt for the season, last year would have been different for me and my brother. I’m sure the CSC wouldn’t have minded three or four more entry fees for the season.

Let’s keep in mind , the main reason the C.S.C. exists today is — the big three sanctioning bodies , couldn’t or , as I believe , wouldn’t support local racing in this area !
That being the case , we , as racers wanted a little or a lot more competition as well as recognition for our efforts ! C.S.C. offers both !
It’s a far cry from perfect , but we are trying !

No sanctioning body is perfect. We do appreciate the efforts of the track owners trying to accomadate as many karting schedules as possible.
I just feel it would be a whole lot more interesting going to Steamboat with 6 or 10 drivers in each class having a chance to win a championship. You a have a better chance of achieving this with a drop. Things come up that the drivers can’t change. This isn’t NASCAR, people won’t reschedule a wedding, funeral, or…. because there is a race at Bandimere. (I know what you are thinkng.)

Any opinions on 1 spec tire per class. Seems it would save money for everyone involved and be easy to tech. Right know we have multiple tires to choose from in most classes. Maybe I am lazy, but I don’t care to spend the time or the money to get just the right tire for each track. Maybe this question should be for only those classes that wear out tires.

The statement is that shifters will follow SKUSA rules. Does anyone know what the 2004 SKUSA rules are? Does this mean that all shifters will use SKUSA mandated tyres only? Doug can you give us a brief run down of the CSC shifter rules? especially concerning PI’s and head volume restraints?
