InactiveKirk,
My son raced 600 cc cycles. Stay away as they are dangerouse. He quit after seeing a person killed at a race. Stick with karts you only have 1/2″ to fall compared to 2′ on a cycle..

Hmmph… That’s what pushed me over the edge into getting a kart. 😳
Kirk, looks like we’re the same age. I have yet to see what my mid-life toy craving will be, but it won’t be a motorcycle. First, my wife would kill me and second, I’d be cheating on my first true love, which is waaay cheaper to boot. Consider that I pieced this baby together for about $2k earlier this year. Not the fanciest frame, but she fits me, has full 10-speed Dura-Ace, and is truly “ready to race”… Just need to work on the motor. :puke

ParticipantKirk,
It’s the tight blue polyester pants talking.
Get some loose jeans and you’ll quit carrying a concealed weapon that you MIGHT shoot yourself with.
Plus you might actually realize that Rap really is Ghet toe nonsense invented by the white man to keep a brotha downDecember 30, 2008 at 5:07 pm #60588Kirk Deason
ParticipantYeah Mike, The tight polyester pants-suit must have been cutting off the blood to my ‘brain’. I don’t want to race the bike, I just want to do a bunch of trackdays..but the point is moot. I came to my senses, I can’t afford any more motor sport right now. I don’t even know if I can afford to get back on track this spring after my bottom end stuck on the HARDKart. *sigh*
What’s with the rap reference? You should stop posting when you drink. (never stopped me before, though, HA!)

ParticipantKirk, quit screwing around buy a new motor so you can have more track time and less fix it time…..as far as the bike everyone needs at least one.. I still have the one I raced in 1992 zx7-r but like the other post you have to be young and dumb to race those things 4 wheels is much safer then 2 especially on a track. If you have never drug your knee around a corner don’t start now……Your good buddy Justin

ParticipantOk folks. Thanks for steering me back to the safety of karting. I was momentarily insane…it is all part of my gas and oil addiction. I get blinded by chrome and speed.
Justin, thanks for offering to sponsor me. I’ll need a check for about 3k for a new motor. I’ll see you Friday night..I’m gonna show up at your place to collect. You better have it ready, you won’t like me when I’m angry. I’m 150lbs of rompin stompin ass kicker if I don’t get what I want. Picture a combo rabid squirrel and a furious badger…that’s me.

Me too. The funny thing about this addiction that I’m sure we all suffer from is that there’s no hope of recovery. I think its hard wired into our brains. It has to be genetic, as I know I absolutely got the love of speed from my father.
I for one could not get a bike. My wife would divorce me and never let me see our daughter again. Its a good thing I have her around though. She keeps me from doing all the stupid fun stuff that I know would not only be a blast, but would probably kill me as well.
A rabid squirrel badger huh?
Sounds impressive.

ParticipantSponsor sure 3 g come on stop buying junk I will give you 5g that should help..That should get you some tires too. hell there is a birel kart brand new for 6g on the karter step up to the shifter class and race with the heavy guys.. we could add a little weight jim might even help by throwing on his Jeger machine that should add a quick 10 pounds and you wouldnt have to stop for a drink…LOL looking forward to hangn out this spring.. All you have to do for the sponsor ship is get a tattoo on your forearm that says I Love justin and it is yours…
December 31, 2008 at 2:50 pm #60589Kirk Deason
ParticipantJustin, You’d be suprised what I’d do for 5 g’s…
I tried a shifter but I’m just not MAN enough for that class. I was a rag doll in the seat after 5 laps.
I’ll stick with TaG even though I KNOW stock/spec moto would be cheaper.
My motolust will continue, I’m glad I’m not the only one with ‘the sickness’ that keeps leading me to the motorcycle shop, the kart shops, the karting websites, F1, MotoGP, etc. I get weak-kneed when I hear a big Ducati or Aprilia. There is no cure…

ParticipantContinuing the addiction. One month later:
I’m not going to do this (right now) but I thought to myself, well if I can’t buy one, maybe I can build one! Of course it isn’t as cheap as something like a used R6, nor even as fast, but I think it would be quite satisfying to assemble and ride one of these:

Roland Sands has a kit for turning your CRF450 dirtbike into a roadracer like the ones above. He sells turnkey bikes for 15k (ouch) but the appeal (to me) is buying a used crf450 (or similar) and assembling something resembling the bike above for another 5k or so. On the early bikes, Sands was putting sportbike front ends on the dirtbike frame but RaceTech has since developed kits to take the regular dirtbike forks and rear shock and rebuild them to roadracing specs. See http://www.race-tech.com/SubMenu.asp?cMenu=26&c=Yes&showPage=f450 for more details.
I think this would be a fun project.

ParticipantDamn, those look sweet. 60hp wouldn’t be too much to ask out of a prepped CR450f motor either.
How about one of these Kirk?
February 3, 2009 at 4:06 am #60596Kirk Deason
ParticipantThat’s hott. I love that new Ducati.
What do you think, Charlie? Want to help me build one of those 450’s? I guess I better start looking for that second job now.
February 3, 2009 at 2:28 pm #60597Justin Mueller
ParticipantYo Kirk next time you see me remind me to show you some road rash burns and scars then you will buy a new motor for your kart and say screw building a motorcycle..Nothing beats a roadrash sticking to your jeans…lol I am still offering my sponsorship to you…lookn forward to the new year brotha
February 3, 2009 at 5:04 pm #60598Jeff Field
ParticipantThat’s the beauty of one of these. I’d never be riding it in jeans or below %110 concentration.
HPR is calling. That 450 conversion would be a fun project. So used bike +5k?
February 3, 2009 at 6:06 pm #60599Kirk Deason
ParticipantJustin, 5 grand….Do i have to have the tattoo all season? Do i receive payment upon showing you that I have the words “I love Justin” on my forearm? How about my upper arm? Ass? I’m sure you have an artist you’d recommend, too.
I know you really want it on my lower back, don’t you? My own ‘Tramp Stamp’.
