    Mike,

That is indeed strange, and frankly concerning. While I can’t really comment on how Craigslist or other sites utilize their ads or how they are shared, I wouldn’t be surprised if other sites out there are scraping data from Craigslist.

Applications like Qwilo do just that, putting Craigslist in a much more user-friendly format. However, to my knowledge most of these applications don’t “pirate” content, rather they aggregate it.

Perhaps keep an eye on it, and go from there?

    Frank,

As always with any classified listing, posting pictures of the item you are selling likely will help you sell it more effectively.

Sounds like a great topic for a video…

Dustin Courter taught me some great tips for bearing maintenance, and the Kart 360 video on the subject touches on it.

Maintenance somewhat depends on the bearings you have. But generally, a solvent and cleaner is useful to remove gunk, and then a simple bearing lubricant is also good. Lots of people here hate tri-flo, personally I love to utilize it but it can attract more dirt.

Simple thing to do is if the bearing has seals still in tact, leave them in tact, clean the exterior, and re install.

    Daniel,

I don’t believe they reserve pit spots at Centennial, except for those that rent trailer space there. You may want to double check with the track…

in reply to: Neck protection pro and cons feedback #82795

    Daniel, Nate,

Neck protection devices are a pretty controversial topic in karting. One tricky part to this is that they are not certified to a standardized testing equivalent (such as Snell, FIA, etc.) in the United States, or indeed in many other countries. This leads to ‘biased’ or unclear testing standards, as each manufacturer claims they have the best testing methods and therefore the best products.

This leads us along a path where really the only thing that matters or that helps us determine the best devices is Empirical testing (watching the results of kart crashes).

Some general comments I (Eric Gunderson, representing the opinion of no one else, solely my own) have heard / considered in the past:

The EVS devices are considered less of a neck protection device, and more of a collar bone safety device, according to multiple sales reps and racers I have chatted with.

The 360 device is considered a good device by many, but the duckbill on the back is controversial for range of motion and indeed safety by some…

The Leatt has had controversy for many years, but is also considered by many (myself included) to be the best in the industry. Worth noting that the spinal support on the rear has seen failure and legal action in motocross world a handful of times when compressive accidents caused the piece that is supposed to break-away at a certain G-load/force to not fail and lead to some injury.

**AGAIN***, these opinions/empirical thoughts are my own and gathered from listening to other racers, observing accidents, and the associated results.

Do your research, consider each device, and ultimately, consider the pro’s and con’s of wearing a neck protection device.

    Tom,

….do you have any pictures of the kart? People that may be interested likely would be interested in seeing those. You can add pictures to your post by adding an additional reply, and selecting the ‘picture’ icon shown in the screenshot below…

    Daniel,

Good suggestion on the “Off Topic” Thread. I’m going to create a forum section for that, and see how it goes. I’m anticipating that is going to go off the rails almost immediately and it will get shut down if it does, but I’m game to give it a try…

**This website is karting centric. I want karters to interact, but there isn’t really a place for politics or arguing about random things on this site.**

I’ll look into an expanded ‘recent replies’ section. I’m not sure how to do it at the moment…

    Daniel,

You may want to consult a couple resources on here. Yes, the karting industry is appallingly behind the times when it comes to online presence by manufacturers and local karting shops:

    • Our “Helpful Links” area has web links to all major service and parts suppliers in Colorado, and many nationally. This may be a great place to start your search!
    • Our “Contact | Karting Businesses” Page allows you to read more about a variety of business product lines and retail options for Colorado-based karting industry businesses.

    Danny,

Great post! I think the Margay is a solid chassis. However, there are many other options out there, and you should carefully consider the positives and negatives of a variety of brands.

Some good guidelines for purchasing a kart:

    • Do you realllllllllyyyyy need a new kart? Especially as a newer driver, the answer is likely no.
    • Find a chassis that has great local support. Often, you can get the best of the best kart, but without local parts support or a solid online store or customer service, you can be dead in the water if a brake caliper or spindle breaks or needs replacement.
    • With the harder tire in 206, I have seen a lot of karts be fast in the category. This is good news for you, as it means you can afford to take your time considering multiple options before pouncing on the ‘secret sauce’ kart that everyone in the class runs. I say this because there is no more diverse class in terms of chassis utilized as 206.

    Steve,

Thank you for your input! I will see what I can do to resolve that issue. It should be fixed within a day.

Worth noting: The Karter is a stand-alone entity and website. The Colorado Karting Tour is a racing series that had a classifieds section for some time, but user input has always been easier to manage than having an intermediary that can only post at random hours of the day.
