    Hello Colorado Kart Racers,

It’s been over two months since the site has received a major face lift. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how users have engaged with The ‘new’ Karter!

I wanted to briefly update everyone on how the site is growing, and open up this forum for discussion on how things can continue to improve.

    The Good

From what I have seen so far, it appears that most people are able to either log in with existing accounts, or create a new one with little difficulty.

We are seeing a lot of classifieds activity this time of year. While not unusual, it is encouraging to see this many karts trading hands or coming on the market, as it is an indicator of the overall health of the community in the state.

More and more resources continue to be added to The Karter each week! Our Technical resources page has grown substantially, and we enjoy finding useful tech tips and how-to videos for people.

    Needs Improvement

Although I feel that The Karter has made improvements in terms of establishing basic resources for kart racers, we still receive many emails and correspondence from those new to racing that are still unsure of where to go, who to talk to, etc. And, while we love talking to these people and attempting to point them in the right direction, this likely means that an even greater number of people are not finding all the info they want, and simply not reaching out.

Furthermore, an effort is being made to bring more kart racers in front of a larger audience. At the moment, this is being done through editorial contributions from racers, industry members, and community members that have a variety of perspectives. Still, though, I suspect this can be improved upon, and I would like people’s suggestions on what sort of content they really want to see on the site!

How I hope You Can Help!

As a website that is devoted to the community in Colorado as a whole, It is important that TCK listens to the users regarding their thoughts on what could be done to improve the website, and make it more impactful for existing and new racers alike.

To that end, feel free to let us know:

    • How we can add even more resources that would be helpful to you
    • How TCK may be able to streamline your navigation and use of the website
    • If the site can be modified to make it easier to find information you want to find.
    • What else are we not considering in continuing to make this site a fair and equal representation of all members of kart racing in Colorado?

Thank you all for your thoughts and feedback! We hope to continue to improve the website, and content on it!

Tonight is my first night on the site/forum, and I just registered because I felt the opposite of your original concerns. The information I had been looking for was all here and laid out clearly. I have experience on other forums, so maybe I just knew where to look, but I am excited to be joining this community and I feel like you guys are doing a good job initially for newbies.

    Brian,

Thank you for your response and comment! We sincerely appreciate it. As you continue to navigate the site, let us know if you have further questions or thoughts on how to provide more information in an easy to understand and accessible manner.

I’m not sure if TheColoradoKarter and the ColoradoKartingTour websites are owned by the same group, but I think it would be very helpful for new people who find the ColoradoKartingTour website and might be looking for used equipment if the link to TheColoradoKarter was updated to the new site.  Currently when you are on the ColoradoKartingTour web site and you are on the Karts and equipment for sale page the link that says The Colorado Karter actually links to the old site.

    Steve,

Thank you for your input! I will see what I can do to resolve that issue. It should be fixed within a day.

Worth noting: The Karter is a stand-alone entity and website. The Colorado Karting Tour is a racing series that had a classifieds section for some time, but user input has always been easier to manage than having an intermediary that can only post at random hours of the day.

I have only ever known the new karter, and I think the site is great! Having been on many forums before, the only thing that I think is missing is an”Off Topic” section where non kart topics can be discussed. A place to post funny pictures, news stories, random questions, or discuss anything else that could be going on in the world. I have been on many forums where the off-topic section is a very large party of the community of the site.

The only other thing I can think of would be a “New Posts” link that shows all threads that have been created in chronological order. Basically, an expanded version of the “Recent Replies” section at the bottom of the page. This may encourage cross forum posting. For example, an experienced karter may never open the “New to Karting” forum however if they login and click “New Posts” they would see all new posts, regardless of topic, and would see the new karter question they could reply to.

Just some thoughts. The forum looks great and the site has been an awesome resource! Great work!

    Daniel,

Good suggestion on the “Off Topic” Thread. I’m going to create a forum section for that, and see how it goes. I’m anticipating that is going to go off the rails almost immediately and it will get shut down if it does, but I’m game to give it a try…

**This website is karting centric. I want karters to interact, but there isn’t really a place for politics or arguing about random things on this site.**

I’ll look into an expanded ‘recent replies’ section. I’m not sure how to do it at the moment…

Extremely difficult to add an avatar – I followed the instructions on how to do it, and never got the promised email back to set up the account. Not a huge deal, but I think avatars add a nice touch to the forum.

    JB,

100% agree! The avatar issue has been extremely frustrating to me. I have consulted multiple forums, and a lot of people are frustrated by this. So far, I have not found a better plug-in or application to improve the process, but I will continue to look…

I figured it out. I gotta admit, that was a bit of a pain in the butt.

    But…
