I just got a mycron 4 and have all hooked up except for the lap timer sensor. I have looked thru the book it came with and I have no idea of where to put this thing. Any help would be great!

Mount it somewhere on your front faring (people usually put it somewhere around the number plate). Make sure to mount it with velcro so that you can move it depending on whether the trackside beacon is on drivers left or right.

I never had good luck with velcro (either standard or industrial grade), damn thing always fell off. We always just drill a couple small holes and use zip ties. Just cut the tie and turn the sensor around if needed.

The important thing is the sensor needs a clear line of sight to the side. Depending on what type of driver’s fairing you have, you might be able to mount the sensor on the underside and still get a clear line, or you may have to mount it on top.

I second the zip tie approach. Velcro is supposed to “get tighter” with vibration as more hooks engage the loops, but zip ties are cheap and you can really get them good and snug. Plus, you don’t have to worry about how well the adhesive on the back side of the Velcro is holding out.

This all reminds me of one time at TTAC where I didn’t realize the beacon was sitting on the “outside” of the finish line pointing toward the infield. As such, my receiver was pointing the wrong way. I was getting lap times, but not at the right spot on the circuit! Thankfully I figured that out during the first session, snip snip, zip zip, and I was back in business.

[p.s. Gunnar, in my avatar, the black spot near the top of my front number panel is my receiver. Some guys put it at the centerline of the kart.]

We mount ours on the front fairing just above the number plate. We mount it with a bolt in one hole that way you can turn it while on track.
