InactiveBlinker,
As to the crash: I was in the rear and made it through and didn’t see much; Bobby can fill you in; he red flagged it; One injury;
Tag masters rotax weights at IMI: anybody else got an opinion for rotax: going from 395-405 lbs;
Thanks and enjoy yourself in the Old Country.

ParticipantRich,
I think Rotax weight should be back at 395. I explained my opinion in detail on a post on the earlier thread on this subject.
See you in Steamboat! 8)

InactiveThe last Csc race at IMI, I believe a Sonik had fast race lap. The racing was tight. I think if a Tag expert class is started there may be certain tracks were Tag Senior / Masters may have close lap times and others were there will be no contest. The Boost port motors are going to be a lot closer to the Rotax on long tracks than the Rotax is going to be to the boost port motors on short tracks or a track that has a corner that we have to “park” it. It does not affect Roman as we are around 405-406 without weight. (if I remember fuel) Leave all the weights alone this year, Sonik, Rotax etc…. Some days you get the bear -some days it get’s you. Lets see what next year brings. If these motors a seperated it will be a non issue. If not, you may see the beauty of Tag go out the window with guys running multiple engine packages to suite a particular track. Leave the weighta alone and seperate the Tag Jr’s They are light and faster, don’t add a significant amount of weight to them for the sake of safety.

InactiveRick,
I agree, pick one motor package and run it all year. Keeps it affordable, and within the ideas that tag was formed.Bill

ParticipantIf you are talking about the last CSC race at IMI then our perception of close if very different. I recall the Rotax was 1.5 seconds, yes seconds, faster in qualifying.

InactiveTom,
1.35 seconds difference at the Last Csc Imi race (Rotax vs Sonik) vs 1.71 seconds, yes seconds! difference at the Csc Action Karting race. (Sonik vs Rotax) I’m really not defending either engine package Tom. I just don’t think changing weights right now is a good idea. If things are left the way they are right now we may try a Sonik with you guys next year. Looked to me like Lee did’nt qualify as strong at Steamboat as he would have liked, but that thing was on fire in the race (not sure the margin of victory) and understandably, Lee is one of the best drivers in the Csc. But they are getting that package running pretty good and I would expect them (as well as you and Barry’s gang) to keep improving their performance. Particularly running a first year model engine, Thats all.

ParticipantRick,
I do not think any weights should be changed across te board either. I think it should be ran Touring car style. Also, unless I am mistaken at CSC race at Action, in qualifying Lee was P1 (Sonik) and I was P2(Rotax) and he was .817 secs quicker. In the heat race, Lee’s best lap was only .009 secs faster than my best lap. Sonik finished 1st and Rotax finished 2nd. Due to unforeseen circumstances :bs: , I was unable to compete in the final but I do not believe that the best Rotax was ever 1.71 secs slower than the best Sonik.

InactiveSorry Tom,
You’re right and I apologize. I thought you were running your Sonik that day. It was .817 sec then. (Wow, you had all the Rotax’s covered by nearly a second.) I don’t mean to sound negative at all. I just believe when we have had several years tuning the Sonik like we do the Rotax, it is going to be a very potent package at any track, particularly the tight tracks. Sorry again, Went to bed at midnight (pretty good buzz) and got up @ 4:00 to make it to work, not that sharp right now. Hope you had fun and sorted some of your issues out. Could’nt ask for much better support than you were getting there!

ParticipantRick,
No need to apologize, I thought we were just having a friendly discussion. If I made you think otherwise I want to apologize. About the Rotax,Sonik, Leopard,…etc. thing, I think Lee has proven that what ever he drives he is fast. He has kicked butt in both the Leopard and Sonik. I say good for Lee he takes this much more seriously than I do.
I think you will find this interesting. At the CSC race at Action, I raced the Sonik in the TAG Sr class. During qualifying, a leopard was in P1(Kyle Ray) and a Sonik (me) was in P2 0.651 secs slower than P1. The fastest qualifying lap for a Rotax was 1.398 secs behind P1 and .651 secs behind P2. In the heat race, the fastest leopard lap was 1.118 secs faster than the fastest Rotax lap. While the fastest Sonik lap was only 0.651 secs faster than the fastest Rotax lap.
What does this suggest? Is the ’05 Leopard just plain fast? Is it the combo Kyle/’05 Leopard/Maranello/Mile Hi karting tuned at Bandi? Is it the fact that Donel, Jeff and Greg were not racing Rotax that day? I know for a fact that the RBI/Sonik pkg in the right hands, not mine, would have been a factor for the win. I was just hanging on 😆
Anyways, I have rambled long enough. I still vote for the Touring car cure for the TAG series.
