ParticipantRick, no you don’t have to spend one dime on your engine if you don’t want to. All the messaging in the world won’t gain didly in power. You are right, you are far better off to spend your time tuning the carb, tuning the chassis and most importantly, tuning the DRIVER than you are spending a dime on the motor.
There are some who’s only goal is to either discredit the Rotax program or discredit a particular service center. This entire thread isn’t about Rotax at all. That’s just smoke screen.

A blueprinted motor never has a bigger advantage than a good driver and well handling chassis, but when both the chassis are handling good, and both drivers are good, then a little bit more out of the motor makes a big difference. I know that If I were to race TAG at Action, I would definitely want to run a leopard. Obviously there’s a reason why Greg ran a leopard instead of a rotax :cheers:
We give Greg’s driving all the credit Doug, I don’t think Larry was trying to challenge his skill level though.
WHy didn’t Greg run stock moto? Is he not going to race it this year?

I discussed the Sr and Jr Tag races only because a Vampire four stroke engine ran in those groupings. Greg Welch and Jesse Runkle won those classes and I give both drivers and their teams credit for winning. I like and respect both drivers. They both happened to race Leopards which I mentioned only because they were two stroke engines.
My point was that the new Vampire four stoke engine ran competitively in both groupings and provided some excellent racing. I, for one, would like to see the new four stroke engines run in the Sr and Jr Tag classes without having to run separately. Less classes means bigger fields, better racing and more track time for everyone.
Although my post had nothing to do with blueprinting, I couldn?t agree more with your statement, ?when both the chassis are handling good, and both drivers are good, then a little bit more out of the motor makes a big difference.? That is a topic worthy of much discussion. It just doesn?t have anything to do with my original post. :cheers:

No, actually Greg wants to run the Tag (Stars and Rotax grands are the focus) and running two classes last year we think hurt. With trying to help customers and run two karts was just too much and both our racing program and customers suffered. We had way too many mechanical DNF’s as a result. So we decided to concentrate on one kart to highlight his and our capabilities.
But not to worry, his older brother is coming back this summer after graduation to work full time in the company. Jeff wants to run the shifter and we are building a new kart for him. I don’t know if he will be in it for Grand Junction but certainly soon after that.
By the way, nice spanking you put on the field.

To address your post:
Waqar (the winner) brought his one motor to Colorado. It is the one that was on his kart, because without it, he wouldn’t go very far.
Ian (the TonyKart that went offroading) has 2 motors. The one that was on his kart was broken in the weekend before we came up there. It was brand new and out of the box when it was placed on the kart.
Gary (the CRG with terrible luck) has 3 motors and 3 chassis. He seemingly runs in circles trying to find “the setup”, as if the solution to his woes are anywhere else but in the driver’s seat. We have tested all three of his motors and chassis and have found the difference to be negligible. All the motors run in the same tenth. Now, if I could just get Gary to do the same.
I (#51 birel) brought my two motors. I run these and also use them as rentals. I own 2 chassis and 2 motors that I use for this purpose. If I am not racing it, it is being rented and vice versa. In fact, my other chassis was being used by Frank Powell in the International class when we came up there. One I have owned since it was brand new and ran it for an entire year before I rebuilt it. I ran it at the Regionals in August, the Nationals and the endurance race we won. The other came in as a trade in as a Jr. I got in a bind and cobbled it together with some parts a few months ago and turned it into a Sr. package. Both motors run in the same tenth.
In Rotax racing, the time is in the driving, the chassis and the carburetor. Unless it is just godawful and wornout, the motor is just along for the ride.

Oh dang it! I thought for sure you didn’t run just because we beat you a couple times last year!
I’m in the same boat with you though on running the rotax and TAG stuff. I park the shifter for local races and concentrate on only rotax, and we run the shifters in Colorado just for the fact that you Colorado people are great to be around and race with. :rotate:
If you’re going to run TAG senior at all the CSC races maybe one of these times I’ll have to strap on the old leopard and come racing. Single speed karts are just so much more fun! :cheers:

like Andy said, the motor isn’t nearly as crucial as driving, jetting, and chassis setup. And even if it was, a “massaged” motor wouldn’t really be any better anyways, we’ve learned that in stock moto. If the guy that’s beating you has a worked over motor, that’s not the reason why your behind him 😉Cody Tracy
