    Hello all,

Cleaning my kart today and noticed that the spark plug wire and the coil were two pieces. I looked in the hole on the coil where the plug wire goes and it appears that the wire broke. Is this a (expensive) problem? It looks like two part numbers in the manual, but I’m not so sure. I used to jam the wires back together on my old Jeep but in this case I think it has something to do with my high-rev ignition problem I was experiencing on Sunday…

If I need a new part, I’m shopping for a used one…so let me know if you have one.

    Thanks!

Get the broken spark plug wire out of the coil and just buy a new spark plug wire/boot. IMI or the local shops have those.

I thought they were supposed to be 2 pieces… I just jam the wire down into the boot. Looking down into the boot, it looks like a screw that sticks into the wire. You sure it’s broken??? Or has mine been messed up for a long time? :loony:

I assumed your wire was cut in half!

I sounds like all you have to do is snip the end of the spark plug wire off and push/screw it back into the hole. This is what I have done before.

Will somebody else confirm this also?

    Rich,

Like I said, I used to do that on my Jeep when I pulled the plug wires apart when doing a plug/points/rotor/cap replacement (ahh, those were the days), but thought that on the kart it was a no-no due to the vibration and high revs. Hmmm, maybe someone will have a better idea.

If you order a new coil, does it come with the plug wire installed?

Yes new coils do come with the wire already installed. All you have to do is just screw the wire down onto the screw hard just to make sure it bites. I’m sure there is something in the rotax rules about type and length of the coil wire, so let me check on that.
