ParticipantOkay tube sock stuffer, err, Orion
I really need my air sick bag now. My stomach was queesy and now it’s gonna hurl…
Mikaela doesn’t come out until the annulment. We have to go to Arkanasas to have it annuled. Till then she’s basement bait…
I did hear her yell from below something about 2 out of 3?!!! I think the words were “He’s been owned by a lighter and a ciggarette, how the heck does he think he’s going to take me on??”
Gramps, she’s got a point. I’ll talk to her in person when it’s time to feed her and I open the door slot to hand her the gruel she gets…
What’s that?…… Huh?….
Something about real men don’t wear polyester….

InactiveIf the classes are to be more divided I agree with the warm up. If everything is going to be crammed into one class, we want practice. We call it race day not half race day, I understand the track wants to keep things moving but if you only want two classes to run don’t have club races. I understand the two top classes are the only classes to be concerned with but the “lesser” classes may one day be in the top classes.
Relax and let race day accure and don’t try to jam everything in 3hours,July 1, 2007 at 2:20 pm #58456Jim Keesling
ParticipantDave,
We aen’t trying to cram everything into 3 hours. It is a 14 hour day right now. 3-4 karts don’t make a class. We talked about that at the beginning of the season. I hope your class becomes a “top” class.
Thanks for your input.

ParticipantIMI was a good lesson-no 20 lap mains because the day dragged on. Even without the wind bursts and rain we never would have been done before dark. I’m a rookie but I’m fit and the last 10 laps of a 20 lap main are what I’m waiting for. In a 30 plus field a 20 lap main means that if you hang in there and finish you might not do too bad. A ten lap main is like having an appetizer in Italy and then getting back on the plane.
A five minute warm up is great-just in case your power-valve blows off!
Yes to the split-more fair to the true Rotax qualifiers-the Grands is a big deal.
More of a big deal then a club race. After all-we are talking about the larger classes only.Just my rookie opinion…

ParticipantHow about if we skip the practice aand go straight for qualifing.

ParticipantPersonally I think a quick practice is good just to shake out the kart.

Participant…this driver needs lots of shaking out! 5 mins doesnt do it-I need a few weeks prior to the race weekend.
As a competitive tennis player in tournaments you get a five minute warm up before a match. That isnt the time to improve your serve or shitty backhand.
Just a time to hit a few balls and go through all of the shots quickly.Kind of translates to karting I think. Warm up shouldnt be mistaken for a practice day.
all my rookie opinion…this thread is now officially beat to death.

Participantlet me kick the horse one more time…
NASCAR No practice on race day
Chump Car No practice on race day
Indy Racing League No practice on race day
Formula 1 No practice on race day
Busch No practice on race daySo… are we a bunch of princesses or prima donnas and need practice…

ParticipantI’m with you Jamie. I think a 10 minute practice session is not the problem. Even if we cut it to 5 minutes it saves less than an hour over 10 classes. The problem at Erie was the fact that we had two 10 minute practice sessions. I use the practice session as I often go weeks at a time without driving.

ParticipantThe current pole is 20 – 10 in favor of a shorter race day. Saturday really is the prime time to practice prior to race day. You can go out on the track at a similar time and temp of day to simulate jetting and tire pressures to get a better feel of the shift and brake points you will be faced with on Sunday.
There are other points of consideration for a shorter race day. My mother for instance, has never missed a race in 9 years. She lives to watch Matt, and the others on our team race. She is 80 years old, and makes the trip up from Colorado Springs. I have never seen Ken and Angies parents, and grandparents, miss a race. They drive from miles North of IMI. There are plenty of little siblings there watching dad or their brothers and sisters race. There are folks from out-of-state that attend. And I have asked our sponsors to show up, just to watch them wait 2+ hours in the heat to watch the next session. We have to consider our spectators in a big way.
Racing kart’s is a major commitment to one’s time and money. This subject has been ongoing since we started racing. And that was back when there was only 6 classes to choose from. I am sure the track owners will make their decision based on this survey and the opinions of everyone posting comments. Like everything else in life, you can’t possibly make a decision that makes everyone happy. So in order to keep the mains at 20 laps prior to the afternoon rains, please shorten the morning, and let’s rock.

I am considering have a 5 min warm up only on the July 22 race at The Track. Saturday is practice day. This would allow a split of the larger classes without adding time to the day.
Proposed schedule:8:00am 5 min warm-up/engine break-in. KK, juniors,tags,shifters.
8:30am Qual.
10:30am Heats
1:30pm MainsThanks,
JimI totally agree that the last race day was too long. I was at IMI for over 15 hours at the last race. Knocking 5 minutes off of practice will save 50 minutes but if we split the large classes we will add it right back in, if not lengthen the day even further. I think the problem at IMI stemmed from two practice sessions. We’ve had 10 minute sessions at the Track all season and I’ve never left later than 5:30 even though I run in the last class. Call it a 5 minute warm-up or a 10 minute practice, it amounts to about the same. I use the session and I think splitting the classes will only serve to lengthen the day.
