What do you guys think of having a open money race. Anyone with a 125cc kart, G1,S1,novice,young, old, fat, skinny. Everyone puts in 20$ before the race, we pull starting # out of a hat, and run a 20 lap race. Split the money for 1-3rd place. We use to do this in INDY, it was the best race of the day, and belive it or not, the pro guys would get their butts kicked. 😳

Say when. Did you do it after the race day was over or just get together at the track at a pre arranged time?

We made it the last race of the day. It can get ugly out there, but it was some of the best racing of the day. I also like your idea of getting together some day for a outlaw money race.

I’m in, slower than dirt, but in. Sounds fun. Pick a good track, just not Bandimere, I like my ribs where they are, not scattered across the start/finish line!!

AJ, that is a great idea! we did kind of the same thing a few club races ago but used the 9hp rental karts. It was a blast. the funnest race of the day. We paid the top 3. We have kicked around starting to pay the Pro class at all events maybe 80% of the entry fees for know, that is as long as you or Sam don’t show up LOL

A.J. count me in. Maybe we can get the track owner to match the purse. You know that all I will need is a tuner and some tires!!!!! 😆

Ummm, your Dad doesn’t count as a ‘Tuner’ Ryan?

    😉

Methinks the whole idea sounds like a lot of fun, maybe even something off-the-cuff to warm up a cool winter day…

Hi all, here is my suggestions. We do this sort of thing in competetive shooting, and it can be a real nice purse when you win or place.

    1. Racer pays $20 to enter the money race. All money returned to the racers paying 4 places at 40/30/20/10.

    2. Racer pays an additional $10 to enter a calcutta auction. Bidders bid on the racer that they think will win. This is called a jackpot purse with the money being payed back the same as the regular purse 40/30/20/10. The difference being that it will be split between the racer and the buyer 70/30. 70% to the buyer, 30% to the racer. Example; if A.J. would win the race he would get 40% of the racers purse, and 40% of the jackpot/calcutta purse divided 70/30 with whomever bought him in the auction.

Now this allows the racer to buy himself in the auction. You have a minimum bid of $5 to start on any racer. If no one bids on a particular racer he automatically buys himself for the $5 minimum. If that racer wins the race he gets 40% of the racer purse and 40% of the jackpot/calcutta purse with no one to split with.

The racer purse is mandatory in the Pro class, the jackpot purse is optional.

    I suggest that we therefor change the format for the Pro class to accomodate the money races. This money race would be part of the CSC format. the format would be as follows;

    1. Standard 2 lap qualifying as in Formula One. This will save time for the extra heat race.

    2. 2 10 lap heat races to set the field

3.25 lap main event for the money

    4. Weight set at 385 lbs.

All racing to be done on one set of spec tires, (no one off tires allowed). Tire compound to be determined at the beginning of the race year at the rules meeting. Moto and ICC motors allowed.

Motos, open carburetor and ignition (subjet to change)

ICC, open carburetors and silencers (subject to change)

All entries into the Pro class must run for the money. If you declare the Pro class at the beginning of the year, that is the class that you run for the entire year. There will not be any switching back and forth between classes.
If someone wants to run two different classes, he must declare which class that is for the points championship.

Feedback please. This could be a lot of fun for everyone. Racer and buyer at the calcutta. Any out of state racers welcome? You tell me,

Well, I see no one is interested or has not read my proposal. Here are some options in case everyone thinks my original would be too costly.

    1. $15 entry by drivers into the money race. All money paid back 4 places 40/30/20/10.

    2. $5 entry for driver into calcutta/jackpot purse. This is a option for the driver. This purse us intended to get the non racer/public involved in the race. You would bid on your favotite racer or the driver that you think will win. Or you can place a bid on the whole field of drivers. Minimum bid on any driver is $5. Money generated through this auction pays only 2 places 60/40. This money is then split between the driver and the bidder 70/30. 70% to the bidder and 30% to the driver.

    3. Qualifying is 2 laps

    4. 2 10 lap heats

    5. 25 lap main event

    6. Driver gets one set of tires for the entire event (qualifying, heats, main)

    7. 125cc ICC and Moto motors only (motors must pass tech) no passie, no monie! All SKUSA rules apply.

    8. This will/could be the PRO event in the CSC series and is a great way to bring interes and a following to the series.

    9. All tech, safety and driving rukes apply. You can be BLACK FLAGGED off of the track for rough driving and/or blocking. Decision of the race director is final and there WILL NOT BE A PROTEST option except for tech.

Well, what do you think. Sounds like a lot of fun. I will get the ball rolling and place a $5 bid against the field for the first money race!!!!!

Neat idea!! what if you pea picked the karts to be raced too? That could be gambling at it’s best every week end somewhere around here.

    Heya Jim,

The second option sounds a little more straight forward. Honestly, not doing alot (read : Any) of betting (but I do shoot a bit), my eyes crossed after about three steps into the whole process ;).

Email me when you get a chance so I can get your guys’ phone number to try to hook-up with you on the 125 service manual.

Thanks and I’ll talk to you later,

You can sure dig up some pretty interesting stuff on this old karter. Maybe this could be discussed again along with Jim Keeslings ideas 😕
