ParticipantGood morning everyone,
First off I would like to apologize for the drop off in updates after the first round of heats yesterday. I went out side to all most of the mains, and was not near a computer to update. Very sorry!
A quick recap of yesterday.
First up for the day was Mini Max. This class was a great one back at GJMS in May with several young drivers showing good speed. One of those drivers was Tevin Robbins on the TonyKart. Robbins was less than a tenth off the pole in qualifying, and got the jump in to turn one at the start. The driver that beat Robbins out in qualifying was Duncan Biles on the Birel. Biles got around Robbins later in the first heat and had back to back heat wins. In the main, Robbins hung around at the front early, but no one was a match for Biles as Duncan scored the win in the feature.
The shifter numbers in Miller have been great, due to so many drivers preparing for the Summer Nats in 6 weeks. The first group to bang gears would be the combined S3/S4/S5 racers. Early in the weekend, Alex Yates, and Chris Neria were attempting to be bumped up a class to the highly competitive S2 class. Race director Terry Bybee made the call to keep Yates along with Neria in S3, but has at the moment decided to give them a provisional S2 license for the Summer Nats, based on how they perform this weekend.
Yates did not disappoint. After grabbing P1 in qualifying, and a few rough starts in the two heats, Yates drove off with the win in round 3.
S4 saw round one and two winner Jet Davis lose it on the entry to a very fast turn four on the first lap of the main keeping him in the back all race. Ryan Pool locked up the pole and all three wins for the day in S4.S5 was a great race all day, especially in the main. CRG USA driver Ryan Rudolph bounced back from terrible luck in Colorado at rounds one and two, to secure the pole. The heats were a draw between Rudolph and his teammate, Mianna Wick. The main came down to both CRG drivers charging through the pack, never letting the other get to far ahead. At the mid point of the race, heading in to the sweeping left handed turn five, Wick and Rudolph split a slower moving S3 driver. A corner later, contact was made between Rudolph and the S3 driver sending the S3 driver off the track. A lap later Rudolph was shown the black flag. The ruling on the track was rough driving. The penalty was later removed, and Rudolph was recorded as a DNF. But that wasn’t all the controversy that the S5 race had. After Rudolph’s retirement, Wick was left to win the main. 10 minutes after she took the checkers, in only her second regional stock honda race the win was removed. Currently the win is under protest, and SKUSA officials have taken Wicks airbox for inspection. A ruling is expected to be made before Summer Nats.
S1 went to Fritz Leesman as he led every lap, the entire day. Joey Wimsett followed Leesman most of the day when not holding off Msquared driver Mike Bennie and Cody Tracy.
In the S2 main event it was Cody Tracy, over pole winner Sabre Cook, and Troy Diede. In TaG Cadet, Roy Fulmer was perfect all weekend and held a nearly six second gap at the checkers over Derek Deslauriers, and CRG USA drivers Tristin MacLeod adn Riley Cook.
TaG Jr was the Luke Selliken show. Selliken was perfect all afternoon, had a good race in the main with Blaine Rocha that carried Selliken right to the checkered flag.
TaG Sr saw an impressive drive by Parolin driver Aaron Telitz for nearly the whole day. For only one lap all day Telitz wasn’t on fire, and that lap was the last lap of heat number one when Telitz simply drove off the track on the entry to the very early apex turn number two. After that misstep, Telitz and Top Kart driver Austin Elliot battled in the second heat and the main. After Telitz got around Elliott at the halfway point in the main, his kart hooked up and drove away to at one time a six second gap over Elliott. Telitz scored the win in Sr, while Scott Falcone drove his Arrow to the win in masters.
