ParticipantI have had to have a neck brace on in order to race for 25 years. Not once has it caused me an injury or a loss in on track positions. I still have my first neck brace I bought so the investment into one and the up keep isn’t an issue. I have flipped karts many times and in no way could I say it helped or hurt to have it on, but I did have it on. Having to wear a sticker on my kart has caused more grief than a neck brace ever will. Why waist time and add confusion by questioning the use of a safety item that is so simple to use even if it could be proved that it doesn’t help to have it on. Some one has died because their seat belt pinned them in their car, should they also be optional ? Work on eliminating something that could let use race more, instead of possibly less.
If the kids have to use them, the adults should be an example of how to use them.March 3, 2008 at 5:07 pm #58406Anonymous

Whether you agree or disagree with mandated neck devices, the adults must recognize that they are role models for the younger drivers. If we (adults) mandate them for the kids, then we should be willing to wear them ourselves to set a good example. A double standard sends the wrong message to the younger kids in the sport.
