InactiveFreezeman,
Let me attempt to assist you with your grandson problem.
1. Iowa is in tornado alley!
2. Iowa has miserable weather, very cold, very hot, way to humid!
3. Iowa has ticks, fleas, chiggers and millions of biting insects!
4. Iowa has only one cross country ski area that I know of and maybe one downhill ski area.
5. Grandpa doesn’t live in Iowa.Hope this helps; excluding number five, that is the logic my beautiful bride used on me to get me to retire in Colorado.

There has never been talk between the track owners to not allow the briggs in the CSC. I have been lobbying to include them since last season.

ParticipantI do understand how to make an animal last a long time. The problem with that is the adult classes of briggs all ready get so little respect while running a 10-12 HP motor as you mentioned, so that leaves us with modding them to the hilt to make them quite fast to keep the adults interest up. Then when they figure out they need more than just one engine to race the class they end up buying one for a different class.
The animal did have quite a few problems as it was being introduced to us. The problems are pretty much fixed with in the rules of stock classes across the country. Most are running the blueprinted animals on cheep meth in stead of gas or even racing gas. Less money for the fuel, easier to tech the fuel, free additon of power, cooler running temps and cleaner internals are reasons why others and I, think meth is the fuel for us.
In fact I don’t understand why the 2 stroke crowd ties there own hands up with all this racing fuel crap and run real racing fuel in them too. Oh well, I will be interested in seeing the rules that yall seem to all ready know all about.
Russ. what do you do if your lap times are faster @ 7500 max rpm’s?
My engineered box for my animal, that you can see in my ice posting, has enabled it’s animal one crank and block to spin to 10,300 a few times with it’s target rpm of 9300 when ever I am racing it. They just start to sound proper when they are going past 10,000. I do enjoy our local guys openess to explore beyound the national rules standards of the mod animal class with alowing parts that add to a stronger more lasting combo of parts. Yet it’s still a new motor with weak spots being improved upon every day, which does make it hard to keep up and stick with a standard set of rules in the mod class. It’s very hard for me to step away from the industrial style motors. But sence I live here were sprint 2 strokes is where the numbers are, if I want to try and prove that I can beat the numbers I will have to play in their game.Hay every one I am the “Worlds” extreme ice racing Champion. I have the plack to prove it. I beet all two of the other four strokers to get it.
Yep that was a nother dissapionting turn out of four stroke racers here in Colorado. $50.00 entry with 100% payback, TV & news paper adds with 100’s of people watching and 3 karts show up. What sanctioning body can fix that?
They always say it’s the grass roots of racing that keeps it alive. I do honestly hope the Jr. class of four strokes melds togather to form the seeds to get it growing. But the jr class will need national adult racers doing a simular thing to inspire more parents to even go that rout with their little Tony Stewarts. We can all name off a few adult Colorado national sprint 2 stroke champions even call them to get some help. How many adult four stroke Colorado National champions names do you know?February 6, 2006 at 2:57 pm #52692Angie MacEwen

I just really don’t understand the big problem, from some of those in control, with the 4 strokes. It’s a real engine, that turns real lap times, that burns fuel and oil, THAT SOME RACERS WANT. I’ve been told, to my face, that they don’t belong here, and should never be allowed in the CSC. Some of the “rumors” have talked of a few of the track owners lobbying to keep them out. Wanting rules changes just to eliminate the Briggs.
Russ, I don’t get this at all. There was some disagreements last year about the Briggs being in the CSC, but it really wasn’t because the track owners wanted them out – or not that I know of. I think this “us and them” thing with 4cycles vs everyone else has been blown out of proportion.
My opinion — oh, no…. is that without the Animals, we are eliminating a whole portion of our perspective new racers. Some may want a less expensive way to try out the sport before moving on to a TaG or shifer. Others might prefer to go the 4cycle route and still spend gobs of money tinkering on them! But as long as we have enough to fill a class, why not show the people one more aspect of the diverse world of karting! It would be hard not to see the fun those Briggs Mod guys have at the races, too! That has to be a good thing for the sport in general.angie

ParticipantNice post Angie. A great way to explain the way it’s sort of been. No body is against them, we just need more of them guys spending gobs in all the classes.

InactiveI don’t want to be part of the “us vs. them” problem. I do not have a problem with the other motor/class options available. I just choose the Briggs class for my own opinions. If someone else chooses a shifter, or TAG, or Comer, or mini-max, great for them. I don’t have problem with that. And I don’t go around telling any of them what a mistake they made.
But when confronted by someone that is against what I run, or ignored by a shop owner that immediately turns his back on me as soon as I mention that I’ve got the Briggs Animal, and am told by a few that have been karting in CO for a few years that certain track owners want to see the 4-strokes go the way of the Dinosaur, I’m going to get a little defensive about it.
I can be your best freind at the track if you don’t look down your nose at me or my daughter just because of the class/engine we decided to run.
We just came here to race! Unfortunatly I’m getting pulled into the political BS surrounding it. I didn’t start this to defend the Briggs classes, just to defend our right to choose a legitimate class and engine package without critisizm. To defend our right to race as much as we want, without a few others trying to change things because their too busy traveling to OK., or Vegas, or Rock Island, or Florida, or anyplace else. That’s great your chasing the big races. I’m pullin’ for ya. Just don’t tell me I have to sit at home waiting for your return before I get to race.

ParticipantRuss ,Racing is Racing. Who cares what SOMEONE ELSE says about Briggs engines.Especially the ones who DON’T RACE. I’ve heard it all,and this will be my 5th season racing those ” lawnmower” engines.
