ParticipantYou mean the dent isn’t standard from the factory? 😉
I looked at the Tech Regs for fun, but didn’t see anything specific on that point. The rules suggest the dent is a “modification” that must be corrected, even to the point of adding additional material (welding?) in order to restore the component to original spec.
Nah, I wouldn’t trust my own interpretation either… 8)

ParticipantI talked about this once with Scott. A pipe can be repaired, including welding, if it is obvious that the pipe repair did not alter the pipe from its original design and specification. For example, a pipe can be welded if it cracks but if the weld goes a full 360 around, its not clear if it was a repair or an alteration that changed the length of the pipe.
I think such a repair as you describe should be acceptable but in doubt, its always best to check with Scott. He has the final say on such matters.

ParticipantRick,
I asked this question when I was selling my old rotax kart and I got the same answer that Doug got. As long as there was no alteration it is Rmax legal.
That being said, I’d double check in case something’s changed in the last 6 months, you’ve already got one DQ and you’ve come a long way baby…
