I registered #6 in Tag Masters for the IMI/Track club series going through the normal process. Pre- registered a week in advance for the first race with Ed at The Track, was told that number was available. No big deal to me. If numbers are reserved or being assigned by the CSC, I’ll run any number not taken. 💡Eddy
SoCo Kart WorksHey Eddie,
I don’t so much care about the numbers but, couldn’t you have come up with another name rather than using “Kart Works” in your racing business or series? An awful lot of us have worked for years here in Colorado to build that brand. Just noticed this after reading your post, I think you’re a good guy but seemed kinda wrong.
Do you think if someone came up with “Shock Wave South” or you fill in the blank, it would raise some brows?
I suppose it’s a free country and all, but it is a small close knit racing community.

Kart works, kart zone, kart shop, etc. Didn’t think it a conflict. I believe most people will certainly know the difference between Rocky Mountain and Southern Colorado (SoCo), assuming what you are refering. Have had numerous healthy discussions with AJ over the last few weeks. Did not get the impression there was a problem with the name. It’s not Rocky Mountain Kart Works South.
I’m just one guy trying to offer quality service in the southern Colorado karting community and make a buck. Helps support our race team. I have the greatest respect for all who have gone before. Maybe there’s room for our services in supporting the SoCo karters.
See you at the races.

ParticipantEddy, I should have posted it is “sort of pissing me off”. I was also mistaken as the mylaps had your #6 posted twice and then a 06 was also running. Besides You are right I did not sign up for the club series, yet I do plan on running CSC. It’s not a problem, I can always not use my graphics that I paid $150.00 for and stop at a local home depot and pick up some mail box numbers again like I had to last year. If you are running for the Rotax Grands the #6 may not be the number you want to show up with from Colorado. LOL
Speaking of that, how did the qualifying rotax series race go Saturday morning? Mylaps results?April 10, 2008 at 2:30 pm #60805Rick Schmidt

EddySorry Eddy,
Didn’t talk to Aj before posting this, it was a little late when I noticed this and a little too early to call this a.m. whe he’s got a baby at home. If you’ve had healthy discussions with Aj about this, then my bad, hell for all I know you and Aj have partnered for a Kartworks South venture. Then the name would make sense to me. Just kind of hit me as, not right when I saw it.
Anyway, know you’re a good man just trying to help racers and make a buck at the same time.
But, how about using Kart Shop or Kart Zone?
Respectfully,
Rick

ParticipantI just checked my dealer lists and I have at least 4 dealers that have some version of kart works in their name. The other common one is Extreme.

“Kartsports” is really common too.
And please, no more three letter acronyms in kart business names!April 10, 2008 at 5:40 pm #60808Rick Schmidt

Alright, I know there are Kartwoks and Aj certainly wasn’t the first to use the name. I doubt they’re in the same market though.
Anyway, I don’t want to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Just caught me and I made a comment. At least were getting some action on the forum.
As far as numbers go, it’s always been proprietary to the previous years plate holders. Which seems fair. Other than having several sets of premade vinyl graphics kits made with numbers on them, it really doesn’t make that much difference. It will make it a little difficult to recognize racers who’ve had the same numbers for years and are having to change. But brain stimulation is good. Right?

No harm, no foul as the saying goes. I’m not running the RMAX series this year. Just running The Track/IMI Club and possibly the CSC all in Tag Masters. Again, really I have no problem changing my number. I should have done some research on that before registering it.. I’ve run so many different numbers over the years, I’m sure there is one I will find that is out of the top 10 that is not taken. My numbers are not incorp’d in my graphics, so it’s an easy change.
On the name of my business. After a good phone con with AJ this morning, we are changing our name to SoCo Kart Shop.
Take care Bro!

ParticipantI guess I’m confused about this number deal. I totally understand if you have had the number for many years or have T-shirts and trailers painted up that it would seem quite right for some one to be using your number, but I am yet to see any where this year there is a sign up for the IMI / TTAC series I certainly would have done so. Unfortunately the last race I had that bug that seems to be going around and I didn’t make it down to the track, but I plan to run the whole series, if allowed to with the number 84.
I seem to remember some place reading some where that the club series what ever number you showed up you ran with. Jim and I both ran the number 84 most of last year and it seem to me that there was much of a problem.April 11, 2008 at 3:24 am #60780Rick Schmidt

You’re a good man Eddy. Would defend your hard work the same if the shoe was on the other foot.
Thanks Man,

ParticipantDagnabit, Now you got 6 more than me. 👿 I hope you run the CSC events and give me a chance to get even with ya. 😛

The talent is awesome in the CSC. I’ve seen enough to know you really have to be on your game to do well. Hope we can pull it off. If business is good, we’ll have the funds. We’ve run Grand Junction and have had some good times there all around. So we want to go back.
In the meantime we’ll be doing the club thing at TTAC and IMI.

Tag Master #12April 23, 2008 at 9:55 pm #60786Sheldon Potter
ParticipantHowdy – I’ve ordered my new TAG Rotax racing machine, and Shockwave wants to know what number I want.
Clearly we don’t want to duplicate somebody else’s number in class (TAG Masters), but I’ve read the postings here and what I can find elsewhere, and I’m still confused. Also not clear about what you guys mean when you talk about registration of numbers.
I went to the “Registered Numbers” page in the Colorado Sprint Chamionship Series section on the coloradokartracing.com site and checked under TAG Masters, which would be my class when I start actually racing, but apparently those aren’t the only numbers I need to try to not duplicate?
I also checked MyLaps in class for the latest Club race, but saw some numbers not listed in the above list, and in any event not all racers participate in all races, so obviously this wouldn’t be a complete list related to club events.
First year I’ll probably focus mostly on getting seat time. I don’t think I’ll be running any CSC races any time soon (as in a year or more, if ever), but you never know. Of course I hope to run local club races in TAG Masters at some point, soon. It’s highly unlikely I’ll ever go outside of those two areas, though.
So what sets of numbers exactly do I need to not duplicate?
Isn’t there some single source where I can go to *definitively find that out?
And, what do you all mean when you’re talking about registering your numbers? So when I get a number put on the new toy, do I then approach someone and complete some form/”send away” with some fee, etc. for this? Is this required, and if so why?
Thanks!
Sheldon Potter

ParticipantSheldon,
Put down the number and I’ll tell you if it’s okay to use it. Or everyone else might “help” you know if it’s okay or not.As I see it in TaG Masters, The class the spectators love it looks like this very loosely:
1-7 are taken, given previous year’s results and Roman’s affinity for 7
9 used to be Charles Gordon but now in Shifter
27 me 8)
51 is Rich Vito age (or was)
Anyone else??? Bueller… - AuthorPosts
