I see that Jon Romenesko is looking for a play motor. I have been coveting one of these, too. And since my driver needs a lead / follow kart I may be in the market. My EK 125 is an expensive boat anchor right now (bottom end FAIL). Does anyone on the board have an old ICA, JICA, or FA motor (with carb)? I am partial to the aircooled simplicity but may be open to deals on those new fangled water cooled jobbies.
NO, I am not trying to start a new class or fragment existing class structures, I just want one because they are cool and i think unlimited style racing (no lead, old frames, no front brakes) would be fun. Any geezers like me interested? (Joe–you are an honorary geezer)
April 29, 2011 at 4:51 am #64985Jon RomeneskoParticipantKirk…YES.
I’ve been reading for a long time about people waxing poetic about the glory days of flat out 100cc direct drive racing, it just sounds like too much fun. From what i can gather, these engines can be plenty reliable if you turn the revs down to ‘only’ 17-18K and run them on the rich side, none of the horror stories of motors lasting 45 minutes. Power similar (or better) to a modern TaG without the added complexity of clutches, water pumps, starters, batteries, power valves…etc. Just pure, no-nonsense racing in a package that would be MUCH lighter than a TaG. Sounds like a perfect track toy to me for when I want to give the shifter a rest.
Too much time on youtube perhaps…but just look at it! :devil
May 3, 2011 at 2:38 pm #64986Kirk DeasonParticipantI think I found a JICA for 400 bucks complete with carb and pipe…maybe time to harass some TAGs. Jon there are 4 Aircooled ICA’s on EKN right now for about 350 each but they need a top end and it doesn’t look like they come with a carb or pipe.
May 3, 2011 at 7:27 pm #64987Rick SchmidtParticipantI saw Pratt and Whitney air cooled radial engine on trade a plane.
No replacement for displacement.
May 3, 2011 at 9:49 pm #64988Kirk DeasonParticipantAnd my main concern was getting a finger caught while trying to adjust the carb on a rotary valve ICA…pssshaw…I guess the P&W might have an edge on torque. I’ll start looking for one. Thanks Ricky.
May 9, 2011 at 5:25 pm #64989Kirk DeasonParticipantSweeeeeeeeeet. JICA motor ordered. pending shipment. How am I supposed to WORK now?
Jon, any luck on your search? (you HAVE to get one, now)
May 10, 2011 at 3:37 am #64990Jon RomeneskoParticipantDang. Beat me to the punch! After I blew up my moto at Centennial a couple weeks back, i just decided to get a new one. So I figured i would do the financially “responsible” thing, and NOT buy two engines in a week! :rotate:
But i’ve got my eye on one for the near future. Reed valve’d Vortex ICA ca. 1999 (just before they went water cooled). You know the rules of the internets, Kirk…pics or it didn’t happen! What did you end up getting?
May 10, 2011 at 5:09 pm #64991Kirk DeasonParticipantThese ICA’s are gone (just called) but they still have some JICA’s with pipes but no carbs.
May 10, 2011 at 8:40 pm #64992Eddy WyattParticipantHey Deason
Possible alternative, Formula KT-100, air cooled, direct drive with 3rd bearing support on the pipe. Lots of used ones out there, low cost, low maintenance, great parts availability, and you could run the dang things with PPKRC.
Can you handle “The Truth”!!!!!
LOL,
Eddy
:boxMay 10, 2011 at 10:51 pm #64993Kirk DeasonParticipantneh–I’m looking for a REAL kart motor, not an old bilge pump.
edit: And twice the horsepower :stir
May 10, 2011 at 11:52 pm #64994Preston NewberryParticipantHey Guys I have about 8 JICA motors and a few ICA’s left. Shoot me an email if you are interested. I need to get them out of the shop!
May 29, 2011 at 7:47 am #64995Kirk DeasonParticipantIt’s 1:30 AM and I am on the line with Verizon on a conf call. I would rather blather about my new motor. It is a Parilla Swift, it came with two pipes and two carbs (because I am that fast!). And I just bought Joe Rosse’s starter. It came with a clutch (unexpected surprise) and the direct drive sprocket. The HARDKart racing chassis has been stripped down and meticulously inspected. Nearly every aspect of the chassis has been found to be lacking and subpar. Team driver Kirk Deason will make up for the equipment shortfalls with a dominant social scene in his pit area.
Lead Engineer, Haydyn Deason, indicates that if her driver could stop eating Doritos, then they would have a real chance at being under 330lbs.
May 29, 2011 at 7:42 pm #64996Rick SchmidtParticipantI’d go with whatever Haydyn says.
Your “factory pilot” might just pinch a fiberglass Mohawk when that thing hits the pipe!
June 5, 2011 at 6:40 am #64997Rick SchmidtParticipantAnd, this just in
Looks like team Hard Kart has bumped up the concept of “Rolling in Style” to another level after BIG DADDY – Curt Kistler (below)
(regulation drum kit for size comparison only) refused to down size from his current 7 bedroom mansion (below) to support the rapidly rising Team Hart Kart.
Responding to BIG DADDY’S cold shoulder, Hard Kart has stepped up to open class racing AND open class tech center support (below) like few have seen! If this baby rolls into the paddock and you aren’t scared, check you’re pulse!
Stated Factory Pilot “Dorito Deason” it’s all about the turn in (on the tech center) the rest is margarine (or something like that) he offered. :meatball
Looks like Team principle Haydyn will be leaned upon to make it all work, as usual.
June 5, 2011 at 11:27 am #64998Curt KistlerParticipantNow that is some funny stuff right there. Chicks dig rock stars and limos. Getting them up to the penthouse is another story however. Especially the big ones…. :burger
