ParticipantA bit of news.
The promotors met with the SKUSA folks in GJ to go over some insurance details. What we have in mind is an exhibition event, not part of any series, to show off the sport of karting. They have many activites planed and karting is a part of ther celebration of speed planned during that week.
What we have in mind is to run a series of races, rotating through the day so that everyone gets plenty of track time. There will be participation awards and some money for fast laps. The important thing here is to put on a SHOW. I want to see the guys come across the line 3 wide, nose to tail kind of racing. Keep in mind that what you are trying to do is make it look good and attractive for next year whan they want to do a full blown street race.
I think this coul be a very FUN weeeknd, maybe a no new tire rule, just go play.

InactiveI should have my kart together by then finally. That would be a good warm up for me (125 shifter “Old Fart”).

ParticipantOops, I just realized that date conflicts with another race I want to run, so I’ll have to skip Colo Springs. Sounds like fun, though.

InactiveDoug,
I think that most people are missing the point that you are trying to make. It doesn’t sound like a ‘race’ but rather an exhibition. There shouldn’t be any rules. Just arrive and drive what you brung with the basic classes to keep things organized. Sounds like a good open test session for shifters and alot of fun for the tags, jrs and potato diggers. Just think of the women you could meet….”are you a professional race driver?” Answer – “Of course I am and I have a $10,000,000 contract, would you like to help me spend it?”May 24, 2004 at 9:38 pm #47112Curt Kistler
ParticipantA race with no rules and women! Does anybody have an extra large driving suit? Not yours Chaz, I want the skid marks on the outside 😛

ParticipantHA 😀 Im thinking the point is to run together and mix it up, and show off for the “crowd” . 😀

InactiveDennis, if you knew ANYTHING about Colorado Springs you wouln’t be trying to tout the women there ;-).
Curt, I was, at the beginning of your post going to simply GIVE you my old suit. After finishing the post I wouldn’t let you use the suit IF YOU GOT DOWN ON YOUR KNEES AND BEGGED ME!!!!!

ParticipantDennis,
You are spot on what I would like this event ot be. There would be one 125 class, with eveyrone who wants to be there, be there. There would be one tag class, and everyone who wants to race one, they are in it.
I will have a tire rule, NO NEW TIRES. I don’t care how many sets of your old ones you burn up. If you get too far ahead, I hope you have enough sense to bobble the next corner to let the field catch you. If not, we may have to have a full course caution for “debris” on the track! We will get out the pace Go-Ped to slow the field.
This is an exhibition, there are no trophys for first place. It s just a chance to have some fun, play with some friends, look good in the heart of the city with a bunch of people watching. Hey, some of you single guys might even get lucky. Its not this one of the reasons you race karts?

InactiveThank you Doug for working hard to get us a demo street race in Colorado Springs, the exposure will be awsome and just what our sport needs. The no new tire rule is refreshing and the classes are perfect. Side by side, nose to tale racing will be a great way to showcase our sport, and a permanent street race during that same time would be the bomb!!!
