InactiveI don’t see a CSC rain date on the schedule. With the Stars events, the Rotax Regional events (Blackrock and Texas), the SKUSA Nations Cup (Grand Junction), Rock Island, Blackrock Summer Shoot-out, and other non-raing events in people’s lives, how are we going to fairly re-schedule one or more rained out CSC events?
Since none of the above Championship-type events/series have rain dates, and since we need rain tires for Steamboat anyway, let’s have the entire CSC schedule run rain or shine.

ParticipantSounds great to me, all the Western slope drivers have all wanted to run our club races if it rains anyway…….

ParticipantI would love to see the CSC run rain or shine. It adds another level. But lets be realistic, the actual chances of running in the rain are slim to none. In the past two years, not a single CSC race was postponed due to rain, but maybe this year we will get lucky and have a rain date.
On the issue of tires. If possible, rain tires should be open. With our very limited experience of running in the rain, I doubt tires will be the determining factor in who wins a rain race. Just guessing, I would say only half of our racers have a set of rains in their trailer and almost all of them will be B’stones. A significant number of them are used. A few of the national racers may have more than one set, both new and used.
We have several sets, both new and used, all of them B’stones. If we were at a CSC race and it was a rain date, we most likely would use the new ones for ourselvs and give the used ones to a racer who didn’t have any. If the CSC decided to run in the rain, it should allow any rain tire in any condition. Every tire could find a karter who wanted to race. This would permit the maximum number of racers to race at the least cost to the racers. Its that what its all about?

ParticipantIn our area, rain is just a passing thing. We never get them all day long rains like in other areas of the country.
By time all the racers got ready with their rain tires the rain would be gone.
I remember one race last year at IMI being called off because of rain. Within an hour of the call, most everyone was loaded up and gone. I then went out and enjoyed the rest of the sunny day.Snow tires, Brad wont let me on his dirt track with my snow tires.

InactiveI too would like to be able to run in the rain. It would be great practice for those of us who run at the national level where races are run rain or shine. As Doug said i think any rain tire should be allowed new or used.

ParticipantSKUSA rules, run rain or shine. Rain dates are for baseball games.

InactiveI have one set of Bridgestone rain tires from Nationals in 2003.
I say run what rain tires you have.
Remember most of our racers are recreational and costs keep going up.

InactiveI agree Doug, Richard and Rich. We have 3 sets of used Bstones that I put in the truck for Steamboat to lend out if the need was there. This little variance in the rule would save $$$.

ParticipantI-F-F-F-F we do opt to race “rain or shine”, wet tires will be “Open”.
Must be a factory rain tire and not just grooved slicks. To answer another tire question: Both MG yellow versions will be legal for all CSC races this year.

ParticipantJust so everyone knows my take on racing in the rain. I see no benefit in racing while in the middle of a downpour. Racing under “wet conditions” is not a problem with me. I hesitate about putting our kids on the track under those conditions but am open to input.
I also will not proceed with racing when lightening is in the area or imminent. I guess it is my personal phobia but I am very respectful of changing weather conditions. 😳Rusty

InactiveWouldn’t your tires “ground’ you so if you get hit the electricity disapates?
Just curious. I wouldn’t want to make the news…..“Local Karter Struck by Lightning”
Maybe it’ll activate the flux capacitor and I’ll go back in time……. 😀

ParticipantThe tires don’t ground you. They are an insulator. Little to no chance of being struck. I hope we will run in the rain if the weather cooperates. New adventures and a new area to learn.

ParticipantNo agruments on the lightning part. I’ve seen two persons come up on the short end of lightening in my life (both on golf courses by the way) and I don’t care to see any more.

InactiveFun facts on lightning: it is almost common knowledge that a car is a safe place to be during lightning. It is also widely believed that the reason is the rubber tires. The first is true and the second is false. Lightning has potential of millions to 100s of millions of volts: not much is going to insulate that. The steel cage in a car provides a much better path for lightning to the ground than the air and you in the car. That is why a car is a safe place. ( this is the same way lightning rods on your house protect it and you)
Now for a kart there is no steel cage to protect you, and your helmet is a bit higher than anything nearby. I wouldn’t want to be out there in a lightning storm.

P.S. A saw where lightning hit the racing surface at Putnam Park years ago. It required a two square foot patch.
