InactiveHey Guys,
Just curious if any Rotax people will be running maxjet software this weekend?
I was out at IMI again today and realized I really don’t have the art of carb tuning down yet (this being my first carb’d motor).
This will hopefully be my first FULL raceday (CSC #1 didn’t go so well) and I’d like to concentrate my time to things other than the carb. I’ve also been considering going with this software along with the weatherpod, but would like to try it myself before shelling out $350+.
If anyone wouldn’t mind helping me out, I’d like to “try out” your setup at the race. I appreciate any help. You can reply here or shoot me an email at [email protected]
Thanks!

ParticipantI would put the money into something else for your kart instead, it will only give you an idea of mainjet, which is not the most important thing in a max carb.

It was my understanding that the software will give you the optimal main jet, needle clip position and spark plug for the weather, altitude, and even track length. :idn:
I would like to try it though. I’ve heard from some people, that every reading the software gives is spot-on for their rotax, and others say its not very accurate.

InactiveSpence – What happened to the kart?
Maxjet is only a baseline. I rarely ran what my Maxjet software spit out and would usually run the kart on the rich side especially at IMI and GJ.
It looks like the weather is going to be in the mid 70’s to low 80’s for this weekend there. I would start with a main jet in the morning of 162 with the needle on 4. For final if it warms up then you will move into 158 territory moving to needle 3 or 2.
It’s not real rocket science at this point for jet setting, just don’t lean it out too much.

ParticipantSpencer,
Once again everyone is looking for the “magic bullet” to being fast. Jay Jacobellis and I compared notes all the time at Bandimere (round one) and he and I differed all the time with what Max Jet said. Quite frankly the only thing that will make the zit engine fast is by making adjustments, taking notes and doing A PLUG CHOP! That is how you make the engine run fast. Adjust the airscrew once you’ve warmed up the engine by putting it back on the stand and see how it revs up on the stand (without a bog) Adjust adjust adjust and take plenty of notes. It doesn’t take but a minute or two to make that adjustment (if your kart is clean 😀 Dennis 🙁 )
when you have it running right it will pull alongside a SONIK, ask Keesling about that 8)

InactiveOkay I will be the contrarian!
I have it and I use it and like it. I run leaner than most guys. It is who you talk to, you will get different opionions from everyone. I will start with a 158 or 160 on Sunday morning.
I wouldn’t trust an Eastener either, that would be Dennis. He uses 1000 octane gas!
Does anybody run a different slide in their carb or will admit to it?

Your more than welcome to come over and use our MaxJet system, as others do at every race we are at. Just look for the No Limit Trailer around pit spot 46. We were the ones next to you at CSC #1 that tried to help you out that day. BTW, what was the final outcome with the motor.
As for the MaxJet, it gives you a starting point and once you figure out where your motor is, it can do wonders. We have two motors, and they are both different in jetting. But once you know the differences MaxJet seems to work well for us. I wouldn’t leave home without it.

ParticipantI use a Computech weather station. I read the alt dens and make my jet selection based on that. I have built up a database by noting when the jetting is rich, right on, and lean. I plotted those readings using Excel. I just take the alt dens reading and see where it falls on my plot printout and use the indicated jet. It seems to work pretty well.

The crank bearing failed at the 1st CSC race during qualifying. Worse case senario, but had a full rebuild, so its basically a new motor, and runs much stronger.
You should be recieveing a letter from my lawyer in the next week or so, to cover the rebuild fees….. plus, of course, pain and suffering compensation. 😆 😆 😆

Mike,
I’m not necessarily looking for a ‘silver bullet’ but rather something to help me with the carb tuning. As much as I love racing, I like to drive, not necessarily work on the kart. Of course, I have to do this, but I like to keep the ‘fiddling’ to a minimum. If I can whip out the maxjet, and jet the kart to within a jet of what I need, plus give me a good needle clip position, that would be a huge help for me.
I actually did some carb tuning today at IMI and got it close to perfect (lots of plug chops). Jay Jacobellis had his new sonik motor out there and the Rotax pulls pretty damn close to the Sonik on the straights. I’m not sure how his kart was running, but he pulled very little, if any, on the back straight. I was impressed with how the Rotax held its own aganist the Sonik, which is supposed to have such a killer top end.

I appreciate the offer Dennis. Of course, I remember you from CSC#1, you guys were a big help in trying to get the kart back on the track.
I’ll definetly head over to your pit Sunday morning.

Just take your max jet, adjust to it and then do the plug chop to see how far you can go.
Tell Dennis that illegal fuel finally caught up!
You all have a great race tomorrow. I’ve got my niece with me for the weekend so I won’t be there to defend the rotax’s honour. Rich, it’s up to you!
Race hard fast fair and safe. 8)

InactiveTried my best.
Qualified 3rd (masters)
Heat on start was 3rd and then it was red flagged
Restart a lot of bumping and grinding and got passed by about 4 karts finished 6th
Final started 6th then got turned down on by a junior and spun me out, so I was last when I got back on the course and caught up and passed about 5 karts, some karts broke and ran with Charles the rest of the way to finish 8th out if about 17 karts.I am getting faster each week. Something is happenning and I don’t know what but I was fast again.

Maybe it has something to do with that contract you signed with that red faced fellow with the really pointy horns? 👿 :check

ParticipantRandall!
We’re missing you out there! Say hello to your new bride. Will you be running again next year or sooner?

InactiveHey Mike,
I?m missing being out there too?
Working hard to pay for the new bride?
Should be racing again next year for sure but if I can scrap together any luck at all it maybe sooner. - AuthorPosts
